So, here's the deal.
I do a lot of covers for a lot of people these days. Sometimes when I whip up something for a client it doesn't exactly work for their book and I have to give it a second go. It's all part of the process. It happens.
Unfortunately, this means that I'm left with a pretty decent cover that doesn't have a home.
Covers are just like people, right? Every cover wants to be loved and every cover deserves a home.
Also, I'd like to at least get my money back for the stock images. That's a part of it too.
With that in mind I've decided to implement the First Annual Pre-Made Cover Extravaganza! (You know it's important because it's in caps.)
Here's how it works: Have a look at the covers below. If you think one of them might work for something you've written all you have to do is drop me a line at novakillustration@gmail.com (or leave a comment in the comments section) and it can be yours.
I'll remove the novakillustration.com watermark, plunk in your title and your author name, and even putz around with the fonts a bit if you think you'd like to try something different. If you like most of the concept but want to make some changes I'm sure we can work out a price that'll make every happy.
I'll do all of that for a measly $40. (Payable through Paypal)
Come on, that's a serious deal. Final images will be sent to you in printable 300dpi quality, as well as three sizes for all of your online needs.
Deal city, people. Deal city.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Steven

The Story

I am a huge fan of Christmas morning. My family is all separated, but we are all together, happily, on Christmas morning. We love our traditions. :)
One of my favorite Christmas morning memories was when I woke my younger sister up at 3am (as we always did) to go downstairs and see what Santa brought us. I think I was around 10 years old at the time. I remember walking down the stairs, and just over the banister I saw a large white table set up in the livingroom! It was magnificent!! I knew it had to be mine, it was like a shining star lit up by the Christmas tree.
To this day, that white table is in my studio, cut up, written up, and banged up.....I so love my white drawing table!

Recently my friend Marie and I were marveling at the propulsive quality of AS Byatt’s Possession, a tale of writerly lust intellectual and physical. With this book, Byatt transcends the formal achievements of her earlier work, moving into territory that’s surprisingly immediate and sexy and vital. What, we wondered, caused — or fueled — the shift?
Today Marie points me to some of last year’s news: Evidently Byatt in her youth (above left) had an affair of the mind with her editor Cecil Day-Lewis (above right), former British Poet Laureate and notorious lothario (see, e.g., his protracted liaison with Rosamund Lehmann).
Another writer taken under his wing at Chatto was AS Byatt. In 1964 Chatto published the 28-year-old’s first novel, The Shadow of the Sun, the story of a young girl growing up in the shadow of a dominant father. Day-Lewis was her editor. His admiration for her mind and work, and his efforts in the editing process to bring out the best in her manuscript, spilt over into a more personal attachment.
Byatt, an English graduate from Cambridge who was teaching in the extramural department of the University of London, was at the time married. She responded to Day-Lewis’s advances, though the relationship was not, she later said, consummated.
The Day-Lewises were on holiday at Louisburgh in Ireland in the summer of 1965. When Balcon went up to their room to fetch some cigarettes for her husband from his jacket pocket, at his request, she stumbled across a letter from Byatt. It spoke of romantic afternoons together in Bloomsbury.
Byatt laughs now when asked if she returned Day-Lewis’ affections. “‘He was old enough to be my father,’” she has said. “‘I am sure he thought of it as love, but the fact is love for Cecil was not quite what it is for other men — it turned out, of course, that there were quite a few women in his life.’”
Right, right: But did the experience help inspire Possession?
Let's see, in my suitcase I have two needle books, several bags, including two messenger bags with vintage barkcloth decorated flaps, some knitted cosies (including a tiny pink one for a shuffle), one knitted hat with flower pin attached, and one crocheted scarf with scalloped edge, a linen eyeglasses case with a bird embroidered on it, silver beaded jewellery, some pincushions, fabric shopping bags that fold up into matching cases, a few stray bird postcards and lots of fabric zippered pouches. A Mary Poppins-worthy suitcase. I've got enough things to go in my suitcase, just needs a little tidying. This is for the Valentine's Trunk show tomorrow. In case you're not sure, everyone is absolutely welcome to come, all the vendors will have their things for sale displayed in suitcases, and there are snacks. For example I'm bringing some chocolate chip cookies with walnuts and raisins in them. Also, if you have any extra new hand-knitted items please bring them to donate to the
StreetKnit project.
Where? the workroomWhen? Sunday February 10th, noon until 5pm
Who? City of Craft's site has a list of vendors and links to their sites
Why should I go? Find cute presents for your valentine, or a little treat for yourself. Why not? Maybe something cheerful to get you through the winter. Also the workroom is very cosy and nice.

The Valentine's Trunk show was great, so many people showed up and it was great to see what everyone had made. I took home a few treats, there were just too many nice things to tempt!

I'm just starting the coloring stage of my eight page submission to zudacomics.com. I finished up all of the inking over the last couple of days in between other work. I actually think I've come up with a pretty good little story. The style of art I'm doing is a bit unconventional, but I think interesting. Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, here's a scan of one of the inked pages. Judge for yourself.

$2 small pink piece of fabric, $5 larger brown wool piece of fabric
Today I rode my bicycle downtown and had a quick peek at the fabric sale at the Textile Museum. This one is a lot smaller than the big sale in the Spring, but it was still worth going. There's some fabric outside on tables, then upstairs there is a large room with more fabric, some buttons and some handmade items.
I bought a scrap of pink fabric, a piece of brown wool fabric and some buttons:
$20 set of four antique glass buttons, $2 MOP button, $3 MOP button
I chose two mother-of-pearl buttons and a set of four antique glass buttons. The buttons are special, so while these were expensive I think they were good value... well I don't really know but the four on the right are the prettiest buttons I've ever seen and I knew if I went home without them I would be thinking about them later.
It's not too late for you to go too! Here's the info:
p.s. they were saying that new buttons would be for sale on Saturday so you all the best things won't be gone if you go then! For the Love of Cloth: Decorator Fabric SaleFriday October 23 11:00 am - 5:00 pm and

I love the covers that you have done for Mary Ann Bernal. And looking at these you are very talented. Keep up the good work!
Wow. These are amazing. I really wish I had a book that needed a cover right now. But I will definitely be putting you on my list for stuff for the future.
