Easter, commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, is historically the most important of all Christian festivals, even though in some Western countries it has largely lost the religious significance it retains amongst the Orthodox; nevertheless it merits discussion in a broader context not only because it is often a public as well as a religious holiday, or indeed because even Christians may be baffled by its apparently capricious incidence, but because the history of its calculation illustrates many complexities of time-reckoning.

My very first intentional collection, from start to finish. A sweet Easter lamb surrounded by tulips, joyful bold colors, and a hint of earthy textures.

Sheila finally solved the mystery of that wet dog smell in her closet.

Felt like it was time for a nice animal idiom.

So, I seem to be continuing on a bedtime theme here. It’s wishful thinking, no doubt. This chilly weather puts me in a mood to kick off my cloven sheep slippers and curl up in bed with a good book.

Ah, but I have sketches to catch up on! Missed another two days. Oh for shame! But wait, that’s right, there are no rules. No harm done!

Ah idioms. Ya gotta love ‘em!

It has been busy busy busy in the studio!   The place is jammed packed with characters waiting to be famous.

Newton has had his day in the sun with a new Baby Journal out in January. 

“Yes You Can Man” wants a bit of the action for himself. He has been waiting in the wings with his REALLY BIG ideas!

Peep Squeak?.…  he is always “On the Move!“.  There will be Peepsqueak fabric out in February and a Peepsqueak‘s children’s book in the works for 2012..

Lae Dee Bugg is hoping for a July release at Christian Art Gifts for the TWEEN market.

Bitty Bot?…  she and her bot friends really wants to be on fabric. They are waiting to hear back from a recent submission.

Hen Rietta fabric is in revision mode. Hen Rietta‘s friend, Grace is serving us up some hot cocoa. She is standing near ……. Shivery the snowman!  Brrrrr!!! He has high hopes for a children’s book someday.

There is no forgetting Bea Bunny.  She is always trying to get in the picture. She will debut in the Peepsqueak book.

This is life in my studio.  Never a dull moment!

Oh NO! did you hear that?  It’s Zippy! That little hedge hog came in late and missed the photo shoot.  I will not hear the end of that!

“Zippy!  Next time try to be on time.  Remember, you snooze  you lose!”

There are also bears, clowns, birds and more. It is never boring in the studio!

0 Comments on Crazy Busy With My Cartoon Family as of 1/1/1900

This gorgeous book by Clare Beaton will be reluctantly returned to our library soon. My son loves finding the tiny bit of a lion hiding on each spread, the refrain of "Shhhh, listen", and giant ROAR at the end. There is so much love and attention to detail in Clare's illustrations. I love the marriage of stitching, buttons, patterned fabrics and solid color. Can you believe you can commission her to create an Alphabet Animal, and for a very reasonable price? Wow.

Which leads me to Bow-Wow. Short story - I bought this because I needed another naptime book for my son, not looking too carefully at it but liking the look and counting premise. My son loves this, and laughs at things that seem beyond him. There are angry penguins, sausages, and fish - common objects around here. But Bow-Wow is just so fierce and loveable. I had no clue about the author/illustrator so I was surprised to find out the author is a legendary cartoonist and party responsible for my childhood addiction to Garbage Pail Kids (gasp, I still have mine in the basement!). You need to go to Mark Newgarden's Wikipedia page or website. It's a life too big to blog briefly. You also need to check out the Bow-Wow website. Holy-moley! It's super fun, with games and printouts for the kiddies, and information about all the Bow-Wow books (and creators) for the adults. We'll definitely be getting more of this series.

I realize March goes out like a lamb but quite frankly, all our 'lamb' references are a bit tired. Lambs/Sheep puzzle pieces are in my son's fists constantly and I'm in the middle of felting this little guy for his easter basket. So... baaaa!

This fellow is a bit SHAKY after a gluttonous bender. He has eaten his fill and is ready fly to the next level. Washed in the blood of the lamb (chop), he will be born anew. Welcome to a brave new world, maggot.

Hello Everyone-
In order to participate this week, I must confess that I am recycling. =) This is a piece I did for an educational book series on the life of Jesus. I thought it would be fitting due to the presence of these sweet baby lambs. And thanks Vanessa for the constant encouragement and reminders... life can get busy, but it is always good to take a "time out" for oneself. Missed you all!
