MILEY AND THE WALMART LADIES
Sometimes, a playwright is privy to a conversation that just begs to be written. Okay. Perhaps
begs is too strong but this was over-heard while standing in line in Walmart (no less) waiting to pay for some items. It went something like this.
SCENE: WALMART. Long line up of people waiting to pay.
THE CAST:SALLY (60-ish female)FLO (80-ish female) and mother of SALLYSALLY
Lot of people today, mom. We're gonna have to wait a bit
FLO
People always seem to shop at Walmart when it rains. I wonder why
SALLY
Nothing better to do, I guess
FLO
Uh-huh...maybe...
(SALLY's attention is on the magazines located in the check-out aisle. She shakes her head)SALLY
Sad...really sad

I read somewhere that she has a heart murmur

Didn't know that. My friend, Phyllis has heart problems - so does Arthur... They take a lot of pills, especially the pink one's with a heart on it? Everyone I know takes them.
SALLY
Says here she was hospitalized for an allergic reaction to antibiotics. She probably over-dosed on drugs and they're just saying that to cover up
FLO
Arthur over-dosed on water pills. Couldn't stop peeing. Hadda go to the doctor. I told him, 'Arthur! Just put in a plug.' He didn't like my suggestion. Good. We're next in line
SALLY
Such a good girl, she was. Wonder what makes a girl like her suddenly do all that sexy stuff?
FLO
M-o-n-e-y!
SALLY
Her dad was Billy Ray Cyrus. Remember him? Achy-breaky heart guy?
FLO
They play that when we do line dancing at the Seniors Center. Lots of steps to remember but nobody cares when someone forgets, unless of course they trip somebody. Last week Sam forgot what direction he was supposed to go and Phyllis ended up with a sprained ankle.
SALLY
Oh well...hope Miley sees the light and gets normal again...

Neh. I finished it waiting to pay for our stuff. Poor Miley...

Indie rock star Sufjan Stevens followed Sinead O’Connor‘s example, writing a letter to pop star Miley Cyrus this week. But instead of offering career and lifestyle advice, Stevens only talked about grammar:
Dear Miley. I can’t stop listening to #GetItRight (great song, great message, great body), but maybe you need a quick grammar lesson. One particular line causes concern: “I been laying in this bed all night long.” Miley, technically speaking, you’ve been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there’s an object, i.e. “I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long.” Whatever. I’m not the best lyricist, but you know what I mean. #Get It Right The Next Time. But don’t worry, even Faulkner messed it up.

(Editor’s Note: Even though everyone is talking about Todd James this week, we wish to point out that this post was prepared long before the debut of his twerkin’ bears for Miley Cyrus.)
Todd “REAS” James cut his creative teeth as a youth by writing graffiti in New York City before eventually expanding his output into art galleries, printed matter and television.
Todd’s drawings are produced with confident, swift lines and are boldly colorful.
Here are some recent fantasy themed drawings that Todd posted on the blog section of his website where he also features his gallery work.
Todd’s work in television includes designing the puppets for Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers.
Earlier this century, Todd and Stephen “ESPO” Powers created Zoo Force, a Web Premiere Toon for Cartoon Network with Funny Garbage handling production.

Paramount and MTV Films have picked up the film rights to the WAKE trilogy, with Christopher Landon (Disturbia) writing/directing. Miley Cyrus is considering the lead role.
As you know, even with people and studios attached, it takes a lot for a movie to actually happen, so there are no guarantees it'll get made. But I'm crossing my fingers.
I am thrilled!

I really hope it's a movie, however, without Miley Cyrus. lol. She's Hannah Montana, and trying any other roles would bring the pop star-y-ness into it.

soo congrats. I just got Wake two days again and have started reading. And for miley cyrus as janie.... uhhh please dont have her. Like im begging. Shes already the lead roll in wings and honestly, i dont like her acting. I think a lot of people wont see the movie if she stars in it. Im not saying i hate her, i just hate her acting..... But like i said befor congrats!! I pray that miley wont get the roll, and i pray that they would do a great job on the movie. :)
WAKE movie? Awesome. You must be completely thrilled! I only ask you make sure they keep close to the book, but, as someone who has directed films based on stories, I know how hard this may be and keep it at a decent length.
Paramount/MTV studios: Eh, considering their movies, I'm not so sure on this, but Paramount did do both Iron Mans, and those was pretty good, so I'll keep an open mind.
Miley Cyrus? NO. I have no interest in seeing her in any movies. I hope they can find someone better.

Although, in all honesty, I believe the movie will be brought down greatly if you choose said (ex?) Disney star to portray Janie. The one word that comes to mine is CATASTORPHE! MERDE! DEGOUTANT! Don't want to bash anyone (....okay, that's only half-true...), feel free to think what you like, but it's just my opinion. Great news, none-the-less.

This could be quite amazing, but I'm hoping Hollywood doesn't ruin it, and Miley Cyrus?? That should definitely NOT happen. I think someone lesser known would be better. That way its not over-promoted. With her I think people would lose focus on the books/the story and just be: 'OMG, its miley!!'

If you can do anything, beg them NOT to have Miley portray Janie. Another part maybe, just not the lead.

Congratulations on the movie, that's so exciting to know the books have been received so well by so many people. I hate to contribute to the snark, and I know you have no control over casting, but Miley would be a terrible Janie. The demographic of the books is so not the same as that of the Disney Channel. Personally, I hope Miley realizes that she's just not right for the role and pulls out.

Its amazing that the book(s) will be made into a movie. but the majority of Wake's readers DO NOT want miley cyrus. she's not so popular with yound adults and the older crowd. her popularity has been more focused on smaller children for a long time now. quiter frankly nobody wants to see her ruin this film and get credit for the movies future poularity because most of the veiwers wuold go to see the book put into action not to see her (which i personally would be gagging the whole time she's on screen tryig-and failing-to act)

I can not wait to see it on the big screen, but please do not cast Miley Cyrus. If you have any pull at all with this please DON'T DO IT! She butchered The Last Song! PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!! That breaks my heart!
If you have any power at all over the casting, please do NOT allow Miley Cyrus to play Janie. It'll be a big disappointment to many of your fans, and I personally don't think she'd capture the character well.
