33. ~Jurying the 30th Annual Society of Illustrators Original Art Show~

Piles and piles of books to judge...554 to be exact! (photo courtesy of Chad Beckerman)

Monday was a very big day for me: I had the incredible honor of serving on the jury of the 30th Annual Society of Illustrators Original Art Show. About a month ago Laurent Linn, Chair of this years show, called me up to ask if I would be an alternate juror in the event that one of the others could not make it. I was honored to be asked, but doubted the fact that I'd actually be called in... Well, much to my surprise, I got the "you're in!" phone call on Sunday night. Wow. What a wonderful experience it was, and I am extremely thankful to both Laurent Linn (Chair) and Amy June Bates (Co-Chair) for having me on board! On of my fellow co-jurors, Chad Beckerman, did a great job of documenting the day over at his blog, if you'd like to see and hear a little bit about how it all went down (thanks for photographing, Chad!). This is going to be an awesome show--make sure to mark your calendars for the opening reception and awards ceremony on Thursday, October 21st!

41. Society of Illustrators Opening

In front of my piece (from That's Papa's Way). It was fun that Peter's piece was below mine, and Julia's piece was to the left of mine~ Goooo Team Rodeen!
A small part of the crowd, right before Chris Van Allsburg came up to accept his Lifetime Achievement Award. It was so wonderful to hear him speak, especially because his incredible books were part of what inspired me to work toward a career in this field!
SVA MFA unite! Taeeun Yoo, You Byun, me, Paul Hoppe, and Chris Butzer. Congrats to Tae and Chris, and to all my other friends who had their work on display (AND to all my other incredibly talented and hardworking friends who did not, and should have!). It was a great exhibit, and an event that I look forward to every year. The show is up through November 25th, so go check it out if you can!

44. Mail Goodness - Part III (Pay It Forward)

Awhile back, the lovely abstract painter Angela Wales Rockett posted a blog entry about Paying It Forward....

I was lucky enough to be one of her first three posters, and as a result, she sent me this gorgeous little painting (which I had admired previously on her small arts blog - shown here being approved of by Studio Cat). In exchange I am very belatedly getting to my part of the Pay-It-Forward process. The official rules:

I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

When you leave your comment, please also do one of two things: leave your post address or e-mail it to me.

Let the Goodness continue!

45. Picture Book Originals

Picture Book Originals is a site where original children's illustrations are sold. Check it out.
I have been way too busy with things to blog lately, and have missed it. Today has been the perfect day to mulch, weed, run and hang out with my family. It is gorgeous here in Virginia.

I also wanted to give a heartfelt thank you to all the veterans and those who have served our country in military service this Memorial Day Weekend. We would not be able to enjoy relaxing weekends like this without the sacrifice and service given on our behalf.

48. More Spring-ish signs -

Besides the backyard being full of birds (I can hardly keep my feeders filled) -

- I got this charming package in the mail, winging its lovely way from far away England, from Wiltshire artist, Karen Davis -

She sells these gorgeous, hand painted hearts at her Etsy store.
I am tickled pink (or in this case, turquoise?) to have this one!

- And I have *finally* gotten a couple of flats of seeds planted. I've only been trying to get to that all month! I still have a basket of packets of "early spring" seeds that need put into the ground ASAP - as it becomes less early-spring by the day.

But, alas, that will have to wait for a bit. It is now spring break. My daughter is flying off on a school trip to England and Scotland tomorrow, and I was SO not invited to chaperon :-( - so I am winging my own way off to spend a few days with my folks, while my husband also heads out of town on business.
Flying for everyone! Happy spring.
(Maybe it will think about warming up a little by the time I get back).

49. Wonder Woman Day October 28, 2007

Has it been a year already? Last year, Wonder Woman Day raised over $15,000.00 for the two shelters: The Raphael House of Portland Bradley-Angle House. Andy Mangels masterminded the event to be a part of national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You can bid here. Lots of great original art by Adam Hughes, Jim Lee, Steve Rude and lots more! Even if you're not in the area, you can bid online. It's a really good cause.

50. THANKS, BLOGGER FRIENDS

Good Morning:

For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know that I have been crazy busy. LIke a chicken with my head cut off!! I am learning that I am logistically lacking. I have a lack of time planning skills.

So, instead of a long blog this morning, I've decided to use this time to re-connect with my blogging friends. I feel dis-connected and need to find out what's happening in everyone else's world.

I'll leave you with a few pictures of some of my Original collage ACEOs, as opposed to my prints. I am offering free shipping on all of my original ACEOs in My Etsy Shop starting today, June 1 thru Sunday, June3rd. As always, if any of my blogger friends are interested in purchasing one of my collages but you don't have an Etsy account, just email me and I can sell directly to you. Keep in mind, any of my originals can always be made into a print.

Thanks so much to all of you who come here each and everyday to read and comment. I absolutely appreciate it.
