1. This Is It!

Hi Everyone!

Ah the time has come to say farewell to Blogger! My new site has been up for a bit now and with the help of my awesome friend MZ, the most important elements are there. I need to re-write some text here and there and put some finishing touches on my logo before I put it up, but I couldn’t wait any longer and have to show it to you all! ^_^

Just go to www.tjlubrano.comand you can browse around! My blog is also there with a shiny new post and many waiting to be shared with you. The ones who want to keep following me…there is a follow button floating below the site and a subscribe button when you visit my blog, which is still called A Look in a Creative Mind.

It feels a bit sad and odd to make a switch to a new site. Starting out on Blogger brought me so much, but I feel like I can't grow as a business with just this as a site.

Hope you like it, do say hello and I hope you’ll join me on this next adventure ^_^

See Ya There!

TJ

2. Hmm Could This Be My Last Post On Blogger?

Hello Everyone!

First of all, thank you all SO much for the positive feedback on my first Youtube video! I was so happy to read that it inspired people and that they loved watching it. I even got a comment from someone who has trouble concentrating that she was fascinated and had to keep on watching! Yesterday I recorded a few more videos, so hopefully the footage turned out okay and you'll can watch more videos. Cupcakes are involved...

That said...I got some announcements!

I think this is one of my last post here. Yes. In a few weeks time, I'll be having my own official website. Normal blog posting, WIP posts, rambling observations and all that will resume on there. The site will have a wordpress blog, so no more blogger. As much as I love it and appreciate what it brought on my path, I feel it's too restricting for me now. It is time for a big step forward and a nice new site is in order (finally!).
BUT! I'm not vanishing into thin air though. You can read me on Expats Post. I got a few columns scheduled. The latest is up now..."Stop Being A Control Freak" - Yes. I can be one...

And as always...for your daily (well almost) doodle fix and occasional rambles, follow me on Facebook and Twitter!
As much as I want to do it all, I have to focus on a few things. These are: finishing all commissions I got left for this year and will add lots of goodies in my Etsy shop. If you read my column, you'll know why I haven't been consistent in updating my Etsy store.

I'll will update here when lots of goodies are in my store AND when the final blog move will be made. So I'll keep reminding you to change (and reminding myself hehe) to a new site! If you want to follow my adventures that is haha.

Ciao for now!

3. Roll Cameras and...Action!!

Hi Guys!

I am sooooo excited here!

I have been planning to record videos for a while now, but if you know me, you'll know I want to have it as perfect as possible. Meaning, a fun intro, speed up painting process with voice-over and music...etc. Well, with my current schedule, I never seemed to have the time to record something. So two days ago, I was staring at a sketch and thought "you know what...the sun is shining (no need to set up with extra light) and I'm just going to record! If it's okay, then I'll upload it, if not, well at least I tried and I'll record something else later."...so that's exactly what I did and it went okay! When I looked at it I was "Ohhh I did that!!!" and I didn't feel like "Nooooo I don't want to upload this!" haha. I am so pleased to show the first of many videos that I'll be creating for you guys.

There's no voice-over or rambling intro just yet, but will have this with other videos though. Sometimes I just need to let my need to have everything TOO perfect go and just go with the flow and the time I have (will publish a column soon about my  thoughts on this.). So without rambling too much...click on the picture below and check out how she's created. It's not your usual happy TJ painting though haha.

Feel free to share the video with everyone who might love to see it. It's a new adventure for me and I'm so curious what you guys think of it! So do start rambling if you have something to share. ^_^

Enjoy your weekend!

4. Party Time!! *throws confetti and glitter*

Yoohoooo!! *waves* Are you wearing your party hats and outfits? If not, no fear, you can find a bunch of outfits and hats on the table on your right. It's okay, you may browse around and pick whatever you like. Why you wonder? It is my....BIRTHDAY! We have to party and dance and for this you gotta look festive ^_^

Every year I wonder how it's possible for the time to pass by so quickly again and I think I mention this in each celebration post as well. Seriously though...how?!

Okay, that aside, for the first time in my blogging career...I don't have a Birthday Giveaway on my actual birthday. I will have one later, but it sucks as to me it's like a little celebration with all you guys as well! But, last week I got plagued by head-cold and I've been sneezing me brains out of me head (and yes, I meant to say "me head" and not "my head"). No fun! However, I can't force things (I will ramble about this soon) and I'm not completely better. I've only worked on commissions and put my own little projects aside. So in a couple of weeks I'll have the giveaway which I'll combine with the Holidays, so stay tuned for that please.

But as many of you already know, I could not have gotten this far without the help of everyone who supported me and my art throughout this year (and the years before). Really, such a huge thank you goes out to all of you for following me on my magical & creative journey. Here is to the third year and you can grab whatever piece you want from the cake below...

*raises many glasses in the air, throws confetti and cupcakes*

Gotta say that I've been feeling like it's my birthday for a few days already; got lovely goodies from across the world! How lucky am I?!

Oh! I also took this day as the starting point to start posting on Expats Post again. I've been quiet enough now. So if you like to read a more "serious" ramble, please click The Magic Carpet.

Lastly, you can tell me what you picked from the outfits & hats table...only if you want of course. Hehe.

Have a lovely Sunday & Till next time everyone!

5. Shopping For Art Materials.

Greetings Everyone,

The time has come again that I need to stock up on a few arty things. Whenever this happens, I always get the urge to buy stuff that I may not really need. There are SO many types of paint, ink, pens to be found and as much as I love the pens I use now, there could be one out there that is a better. The thing is I'll never know unless I try right?

But! My budget is not big at all, so I have to be sensible when I get new art material. So I made a pact with myself that whenever I need to stock up on the usual things, I pick one or two new arty things (depending on the price) to try out. It also forces me to think about possible future projects and what results I want to achieve with them. That way I know I will use it and it won't end up on my desk in the pretty packaging... unused.

So what do I do when I have to shop for art materials? Well, I read reviews. Lots of reviews. There are plenty of art review blogs out there, but one I always read is from Alberto Lung. His reviews, to me, are honest and straight to the point and it's a good site for reference if I want to get something specific. His blog is named Lung Sketching Scrolls. I love to read art blogs with reviews as it simply saves me time (and often money) to try and test out new material.

Quite selfish huh? But to be honest you do need some sort of strategy when trying out art material otherwise you can't give a solid review regarding e.g. light-fastness, flow of ink, pigmentation and so on. If I was to try out an art material my review wouldn't be as good as some of the sites on the web as it would simply be aimed at how I would use it and not for general use among artists. This said, I *do* have an art review waiting for the ones that are interested in the paint I use haha. Not sure if it will be helpful, but I had to put a few thoughts for myself on paper as the paint I use did give my art a new feel and quite a lot of people started to ask me about the paint I used now...so maybe it will help the interested ones in the decision if they want to get the paint? We'll see!

In general, I don't like shopping. I dislike how, especially ladies, can get all pushy and touchy in clothing stores. Please respect my personal space people! It's like the entire world is going to end if they don't get this special shirt, skirt...whatever. No offense to everyone who do like to shop a lot; it's just not for me ^_^

I do LOVE art stores, book stores, beauty stores (make-up pallets are often brilliantly put together when it comes to colors and textures) AND let's not forget food stores. I can easily get lost in one. Goodness. I do not want to think about how much art material I'd probably get when I do have more money to spend...or maybe I won't spend as much as I think. Over the years I kinda thought myself not to get stuff that I don't need. It is a waste of my money in the end you know. It's probably also one of the reasons I blank out in a store hehe. Seriously though. I often forget why I go into a store in the first place. Much to the annoyance of my sisters hehe.

But okay, my rambling aside, I wanted to shine a bit of light on Alberto. Do check out his site for the reviews, especially on pens, pencils & ink and if you're on Twitter...you can say Hi to him as well.

It's my grandad's birthday, so gotta run now!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

6. TJ's Commissions: Be a Disney Princess.

Ah! Today will be a peek at a personalized header commission I completely a while back.

Pearliology is a Beauty Guru on Youtube and I got to know her via my sister Cilla. She is a huge Disney fan and she wanted to have herself captured as one for her header. Of course, I said "Yes"

So obviously I went a bit in stalker mode and checked out her blog. A header space isn't that big, so I had to keep in mind what I wanted to paint as I didn't want lots of details to go missing. However, it was clear from the start that there had to be one big princess Sarah, as all Disney princesses have their moment of prettiness on a poster. Then after a bit of research I decided to add 3 little princesses. 1) She loves to snap pictures as much as she can (and her blog is filled with lovely peeks in her life), so because of this I chose to have one mini Sarah holding a camera. 2) She loves slushies! 3) Disney princesses always seem to have cute birdies around them (and then they burst out into singing...)

I don't have a whole lot of pictures this time as the design was pretty straight forward and the sketch was right in one go. I wanted to add frames around the 3 little princesses, but decided to leave them out in the final sketch as it would take up too much space. Also on the original I hand-painted "Pearliology"

She absolutely loved it and hearing this just makes my day! It's always a challenge to create something that the client will love, but so far the response I get is way beyond amazing.

Little updates:
1. YAY! The SOS Sahel painting is sold during the auction! The lovely Betty Dravis is the proud owner of the Goddess of Nature and the painting is on her way as I type this post! She is a writer AND a celebrity interviewer (she interviewed Clint Eastwood back in the days. How COOL is that?!) and if you're interested to see her work, please go to her site, Betty's Dreams.

2. All the giveaway prizes are on their way to their new owners! AND there will be a new one up in a week or two.

3. I'll be doing some major redesigning of a lot of things soon, but I will update you accordingly when the time is right.

Thanks for reading lovely readers! Till  next time.

7. TJ's WIP: Sahel the Goddess of Nature

Hi Everyone!

In my previous ramble update, I spoke about a painting that I couldn't show you, but now with the auction coming up on September 16th, I can! A bunch of you have already seen the painting floating around on Facebook, but I thought a few more peeks would be fun to stare at!

I didn't had a real idea of what I wanted to paint. I only wanted to incorporate a sense of freedom. How vague does that sound huh? Haha. Either way, I googled some references and came across one with the pose you see below, I think that printed the reference as soon as I saw it as I can't find it anywhere on my laptop! Either way, I was immediately drawn to it and decided to use it as a base.

Sketch, sketch! I drew the lady on a smaller scale first and after scanning, I drew her on an A4 size paper. I had a vague idea about the background and flowers where the only thing floating in my mind. I decided to only focus on the lady first.

With colored pencils I drew the flow of the water and then I started to add layers of paint. I also got a better idea of the background, but looking back... it was kind of a big risk that I took. I started to drop colors, like blops of greens, blue and a mixture of various colors to create a nature background...I seriously had a few moment where I though "Now why the %*^&* did I do that?!"...

At this point I was also thinking "Ehm...this doesn't look like something I'd normally paint...", so I proceeded bugging my sisters and asking if it was looking okay. I usually just have to keep on going when I reach this stage of pondering haha. So that's exactly what I did...

Excuse the light. The day turned in to evening before I knew and I was working in the living room and the light gets pretty crappy for pictures there. As you can see, I started to bring out the flowers and grassy areas at the front and soft, misty bushes and trees in the back.

Final touches!! Some sparkles here and there!! She just had to have some sparkles haha.

Voila! The Goddess of Nature is born ^_^. I hope she brings lots of luck to the cause and that she goes to a good home as well. The illustration is done completely with watercolors and a touch of black, pearly and gold ink. The size is 30 x 25 cm.

My painting and many others, will be auctioned this upcoming Sunday, September 16th. As soon as I know more about the auction details, I'll mention here, Facebook & Twitter. All proceeds go to the cause and I will be shipping the painting. So the buyer can expect a lovely TJ package ^_^. For now you can read more by going to this article "Countdown To Song of Sahel Auction". You can find more art over there as well!

With this, I shall leave you...

Till next time, everyone!

9. TJs Rambling Updates! Well, just two for now...

Ah this post is going to be about a few little updates. Two to be precise. It's getting way too hot here for sitting behind the laptop for long periods of time, so I'm typing in one go...hehe. Ready? Set? Go!

Ramble update 1: Kids Need More Art
A few weeks ago a came across a Facebook page called Kids Need more Art. They have a campaign going called Around The World and if you want to join, you can contact them and they will send you a shirt or bag and the only thing you have to do is answering a question and snap a picture with it. They want to see how far the shirt/bag travel around the world while collecting cool answers. Well, when I was out and about I managed to spill coffee on the shirt so I still ended up taking the picture at home with the bag (which I didn't want as I wanted to have a cool picture outside -_-)...anyway...I tend to be quite clumsy sometimes! Here's the picture that has been up on my Facebook yesterday.

I hardly post my own pictures on my blog huh? That aside. There's still some time to participate, but not sure how much time there's left yet. This is specifically aimed at people who live outside the States as the shirt does need to travel to you first. So wanna join? Check out their site or their Facebook page here.

Karen *waves* I loved our email exchanges! You're so sweet and can't wait to meet you one day!

Ramble Update 2: A Song of Sahel SOS
I'll be donating an original painting to the cause A Song of Sahel SOS. Every now and then I do a little side project that has more meaning to me than others. At least, whenever I read about it, it sparks something in me and I just have to act on it. I had it with e.g. the Red Dress Movement by The Bloggess.

A lot of parts in Africa are struck by starvation and dehydration, people have so little, though often their smiles are the most genuine ones you'll ever see. I've never visited Africa, but I do have heritage from there. And you know, it's very easy to only focus on the tragedies that covers Africa like a black cloud, so one must not forget about all the wonders in the form of beautiful landscapes and gorgeous animals that live there. I've wondered many times why a land as Africa is still in such severe need of help. Many theories have crossed my mind one more depressing and shocking than the other. So I won't bother you or myself with it anymore. What is needed is a helping hand is needed and Niamh Clune is one of the people who extended hers and set up an event to raise awareness and money to help the people who live in Africa, specifically around the area of Sahel. Sahel is a place in Africa struck by extreme drought and no rain for extended periods of time. I'm already melting when the temperatures in Holland go above 24 degrees Celsius...and when I think about how hot it can really get without the rain...I definitely should not complain. Not one bit.

Unfortunately I don't have bags of money around, so I am donating an original painting solely for this cause. It will be auctioned soon to raise money for the cause, however, I can't show you what I've painted just yet. What I can say is that the style of painting is quite different than I'm used to and my sister Cilla is completely in love with it. I always, always have to get used to my own stuff though. However...stepping outside my comfort zone is a good thing right? The event will be taking place on September 15th and you can join the event on Facebook. In case you're interested in knowing more about the cause and how to join, please read this post.

Ah. We can all dream about a better world, but in the end....our actions make all the difference.

Last ramble: MY GIVEAWAY is still open...so do join if you want and ask me question. The questions I've gotten so far, will be answered in the posts to come. :D

Enjoy you Sunday...the weather is getting waaaay too hot to sit behind my laptop!

Ciao Ciao everyone!

10. TJ's Giveaway: It's here! It's finally here! (closed)

GIVEAWAY is closed!
I'm currently in the process of picking the winners ^_^

Finally.

The Giveaway arrived. Did you hear my dramatic voice? I totally did a dramatic voice.

It's funny. I decided to do a giveaway when my page on facebook would hit 300 likes. Now I'm already at 459 likes and for this big increase a HUGE thank you goes to the lovely Carmen from "Paying it Forward - One Day at the Time"...every time when she shared my page, quite a lot of happy souls found my page and I couldn't be more grateful. It only means I can share what I love to do most with even more people and I hope it will put a smile on their faces as well :D

As I was thinking about a lovely prize/prizes, time flew by and work got crazy busy and now...now I can also announce proudly that I entered my third year of blogging as well (June 14th, to be exact!). Goodness! Where did the time go? I'd never thought to be blogging for this long already and as each year passes, my blog gets a different purpose, well not an entirely different purpose as my Art has always been my biggest focus point. You won't see a post with without a doodle or two. However, blogging gave me a new perspective on life, a new way of living and doing what I love to. I learned how to write better posts, capture my thoughts, most importantly I got a better insight in myself as a person and what I really want to get out life. You could say that I'm aware of how I live my life and how I want to live my life...up till a while back, I basically took most things for granted and did things others expected me to do so....I should stop talking as you guys probably think "TEEEJAAAY!! I want to know about the giveaway!!"

You were, weren't you....? Oh my gosh!

Hehe. As always, if you want to join, do read everything and please follow the rules.

So what can you win this time? I won't have 1st, 2nd or 3rd winners, where the prizes go from big to small. No. Instead of this I have 5 sets of 2 prints and I will pick 5 winners! Obviously hehe. Oh. There will be an EXTRA surprise when one receives his/her package, but what this is....I am not going to tell ^_^.

The prints of the Inky Ladies with black frame can vary as I have 13 different ladies, but for picture purposes I grabbed a few random ones. Okay, so what do you have to do?

1. Leave a comment. It's as simple as that, but it is a MUST. Plus, I do have two questions this time. You do have to answer them please.

What would you do if you'd meet me in person?

and

Ask me a (random) question.
This could be anything from art to fashion/beauty (yes. you ladies can ask me e.g. about the make-up I wear, about my hair etc.) or you can ask my thoughts on a certain subject or just a totally random question. I'll  use these questions for future posts and it's a fun way to peek in your minds as well ;)

For EXTRA entries, you can do the following:
2. Be a Facebook Fan and/or a reader of my blog (either by Google reader or e-mail subscription) and you get 1 extra entry.
3. If you spread the word about my giveaway, Etsy shop or Fanpage, you'll get 1 extra entry.

Just remember to list ALL the things you did in your comment, along with your answers and if you'd prefer the Inky Ladies or the Cupcakes. The Giveaway is open till September 1st (2012 hehe) and then I'll announce the winners. I'll create a permanent link in the sidebar that leads to this post as it will vanish slowly into my blog past as I will add new posts, plus I'll add a little reminder in every new post as well.

That's it! I'm so excited to see your answers ^_^

Ciao!

11. TJ's WIP: Dragons, Dragons, Dragons.

Staring post for you todaaaaaay!

Just like my Floating Rapunzel one, I kept track of how I painted my header on my FB page (hmm I think I need to switch up the one on my blog as well soon!). I painted lots of line-ups during that time and I still have a few planned. I found it a good way for me to pick a subject and experiment with how I would draw e.g. unicorns and create a fun image that could be turned into possible print. There are so many things to be captured on paper that I sometimes don't even know where to start.

A few lined-ups that I created so far are for sale in my Etsy store as well. Sooo get your favorite while you can, because I'm not sure if I'll prints available.

Hmm what else can I tell you? Not much to add I think. I always have the same routine when I create my art. Research - sketching (lots of sketching) - final sketch - inking - painting - final details - scanning - minor editing - done! That's it! However, if you have a specific question, just leave it in your comment ^_^.

Not a whole lot of pictures this time, but I really like the dragons and the pictures are scattered on my FB page, so I figured adding it in on post would be easier haha.

Have a lovely day!!

Ciao!

12. TJ's Commissions: Mehndi, Glitter and Elephants

Can you recall me chatting about a bigger painting I did?

Well let me tell you a bit more ^_^ The painting got commissioned by the brother of one of my very lovely friends, Ms. Tricia aka Tershbango. The people who read my blog for a longer period of time know that my friendship with Tricia started with a doodle and...a Prince Charming. There are a few posts that you can have a peek at and I shall list them here if you want to have a trip down Memory Lane.

Chapter 1: Peeking into a Chrystal Disco Ball.

Chapter 2: They got Hitched and a secret collaboration between Mama Bird & me.

Bonus Chapter: Prince Charming is Preparing for Valentine's Day...in a somewhat unusual way.

I can't tell you how amazing it is to be a part of people's lives by doing illustration work for them. It truly is one of the best feelings in the world. And in this case I was present (in doodle spirit but still I was there!) at the weddings of Tricia AND her brother! Yes, you could only imagine my surprise and excited when Neil, Tricia's brother, contacted me for a wedding presents for his wife Reena. I got the free hand and the only requirements where to add their cats, their names/wedding date and the logo of Hell's Kitchen where he proposed to her.

So I got to work and I can share some peeks of what I did as they got the painting and it's already hanging proudly on their wall! The scene is a personal element that Neil did for Reena, he sang to her on their wedding day and it was a traditional Indian wedding. I could capture so many things, but eventually settled for this as for me it really captured something that was entirely of them. The singing, the Indian elements. The elephant which stands for loyalty, trust, strong foundation...all things you should have in a marriage. The border is Reena's actual henna tattoo (mehndi) that I re-drew and gave it a gold antique feel to it and of course, lots and lots of color and glitter and little details. But okay, the pictures! I added a bunch of pictures to my Flickr stream as it'd be easier to watch. Otherwise this post would be huge. You can click here to see it on Flickr or...click the slideshow below. Whatever you prefer.

That's it! What do you think? It was a bit of challenge as the painting is one of the biggest I ever done, but in the end after switching up my concept for a few times, I do like how it turned out and most importantly...Reena and Neil and their family loved it! Mission succeeded!

Neil & Reena...let me thank you again for this wonderful opportunity and for your patience (especially Reena hehe) and I wish you all the luck & happiness in the World!!

I do want to point out that if you want have something created for yourself or

13. Tales from an Illustrator: The Indie Chicks

Hi Everyone!

I've been having some troubles with my laptop getting overheated lately, so not doing as much as I want as I don't want to force it to work. But this aside! I got some fun news to share with you!! I got featured on a very cool site, named The Indie Chicks. *dances*

You know, every now and then I get an e-mail from someone with a request. I don't respond to all, because sometimes you know from the start that it is spam, but there are a few e-mails that are set up in a way that makes you think "Hmm...is it legit??".

So when I got the lovely note from Chiara, one of the founders of the site, I went like "Oh my goodness, how fun!". I didn't want to get tooooo excited, just in case I would be disappointed again. However, after browsing through the site and reading it here and there, I was even more excited. The Indie Chicks is an online magazine for the bad ass independent women. Now how cool does that sound?! Haha. It is founded by two lovely ladies going by the name Chiara Mazzucco and Renee Claybion. You can read more about their mission by clicking this "an Indie mission"

Maybe you're wondering what made me decide to reply back to Chiara? I mean next to the spam thing,  there are many sites scattered around the web where you can display your art. It's easy to get lost or to forget about where you registered on in the first  place. The first thing that I noticed on their website was the following:

"Our Indie Chick has a go-getter, do it yourself, hunger for life. She's strong, confident, and charmingly ambitious. Whether she's an indie artist, a celebrity stylist, or a small business owner, she's making her dreams come true. So what makes an Indie Chick?
If you're here, reading.. you're probably it." - The Indie Chicks

I like to think I'm this indeed haha. Seriously though, and for some this is known, but for the new readers: I embarked on a creative adventure. An adventure where I decided to follow my dreams. Dreams that may seem unrealistic for some, especially since I have no degree in Art. But hey, things are only unrealistic if you think they are. You're never done learning and you have got to work hard in order to make them come true. It can be daunting at times so connecting with like-minded people who are also chasing and capturing what they really want in life, makes it a bit easier. You're definitely not alone.

14. Checking in to say Hi and a Dentist Story.

Well hello there lovely people!

I am still alive hehe. I believe I already told you a few posts back that I was in an "odd" mood right? If not...you can run around with me here...*runs in circles*

Things haven't really changed yet. I'm still very busy and find it a tad difficult to capture my thoughts in normal sentences, writing articles for you to read. But! I've been down writing things down whenever something popped in my mind, so I can stalk you with fun (hopefully fun and not boring...) stuff to read soon.

So what's been going on in my world? Work, work, work. I had one painting that was a rush order, so most of my time went into this. And now it's on its way to the new owners. I am so excited here. It's the biggest I've done so far, around A2 size, which is 16.5 x 23.4 inches for my American friends out there. Let's just say it was a challenge, but a fun one. I got a bit delayed with my own schedule as I got an emergency wisdom tooth pulled out though...let's talk a bit about that as I can't share pictures or talk more about the painting I did just yet!  ^_^

I dislike.the.dentist. Yeah, yeah most people do, I know and it's not that I have horror stories to tell, but the thing is that once you're in the chair you can't do a thing. Nada. I do have one story where I had a small filling replaced and I got the shots against the pain. Funny thing with these shots was that it started to work AFTER the assistant did her job. After. Seriously. I felt the entire procedure and it's not an excruciating pain, but a pain that just goes through your nerves. Literally. I did sign (arm lifting and what not) to her that I could still feel this pain and she just said "almost done"...Rude. After, when I was outside, I noticed that I couldn't blink with one eye. I prayed that I didn't meet someone on my way home and called my sister to whine about my eye and the rudeness of the assistant. She just laughed (sigh). When I got home, my mom laughed as well and I have to admit...I looked quite ridiculous as I was annoyed, so instead of looking like this -__-, I looked like this o___- AND let's not forget that I kept blinking with just one eye..I probably looked like a mad pirate.

I switched to a new dentist after this, because I knew that sooner or later I had to get my wisdom teeth removed and if I'm not comfortable with my dentist, I most definitely wouldn't be for a bigger procedure. That said, I still waited till the last minute to get the tooth removed though. I still was scared. For what? Well, the unknown. I didn't know what to expect, but I reached a point where my headaches couldn't be fixed with medication and I had deadline, so off to the dentist I went and it was removed with

15. TJ's WIP: Floating Cupcakes.

Hello Hello!

Here's a little WIP for you again ^_^. Ms. Doodologist correctly pointed out "Rapunzel of the Cupcakes"...something like that hehe. Either way, I found a cool concept sketch of Rapunzel on the internet and used this as a reference for the character and voila...floating cupcakes were born. I already showed a little peek a while back, but I did snap more pics while I was working on this one as I showed peeks on my fanpage, so I figured to placed them all together and create a little post for you guys! Hope you like it and have fun staring!!

16. Running Around in Circles while Rambling.

Ah you guys! I'm in an odd mood lately, nothing negative, just...odd. I have tons of stuff that I could and want to talk or write about, but as soon as I sit down to write a post, I tend to wander away with my mind and I end up doodling something or just doing other stuff. I have a bunch of drafts now. So instead of coming with one of the many ideas that I have floating in mind for a post...I will just ramble and show you pictures ^_^.
So what have I been up to? Well, last few weeks have been crazy with arranging commissions. I say arranging as I need to keep my admin aspect in mind as well. Then I also have to actually work on them as well, but that is the fun part haha. Next to that, I'm also working on my own little projects and seeing what direction I will head in for now. I'm dabbling in Fashion illustrations...dabbling in kiddies illustrations, cupcakes and monsters and I don't know what else. Have to say that the monsters and cupcakes got a life of their own and I'm working on something that I don't want to share just yet, need to think a few things through hehe.

But I do have to say that I feel...a tad all over the place at the moment. With the art fund being completely discarded, I started to re-think a lot of things and doing a lot of things. So many things, that I kinda lost track of what I want to do. So I took a few days where I was less behind my laptop and did some thinking as I definitely need a focus point for myself. I can't completely stop networking or sharing my doodle peeks (I'm addicted to my doodle peeks on Facebook). Let me just tell you that this...is...difficult. Most of you know that I love to do so many things *head desk*. And as much as I love to aimlessly wander around, this is not realistic. But I do have a better insight in what I want now, but times like this where I simply want to sit in a corner and stare are a tad annoying. However I'd annoy myself even more if I did nothing though.

Funny thing about the ink I used for the inky ladies. I absolutely disliked the fact it wasn't waterproof, while it says so on the bottle. After playing around with it for a while, I love the way it "bleeds". It creates an instant depth, so I don't need to mess around with washes of grey. Only thing is, I can't add a whole lot of color as the lines will bleed again if I add too many washes and the painting can result in a piece of...ehm...annoyance.

Can't curse as I probably scare people away.

And you know what else? I've been postponing the giveaway as I wanted to ponder a bit longer about the price and now my 3rd Blogoversary is almost here! Can you believe it? The

17. TJ's Shop: New goodies all around!

All prints are ready to be framed and signed by me and because I truly want to make an effort with my Etsy shop this time...I'll start it off with a fancy coupon: 15% off your order if you enter MAGICCUPCAKE upon check out. I gotta stay in the cupcake theme you know...

I haven't uploaded the originals yet as I had to wait for my fixative to arrive. They will be in my shop in the upcoming days. Here's a peek at them. Please excuse the crappy camera picture.

Please keep in mind that everything is limited (especially the originals hehe) and I only have 5 or less per item. So don't wait too long and get what you want now for presents, Mothers day, just because gifts, for yourself and so on. I really want all my prints and originals gone, so I can stock up on new things. However, if I get lots of messages about a particular print, I may stock up again.

Don't hesitate if you have questions about originals and prints okay? Also, if you know someone who would like this, feel free to pass it along.

That is it! You may start browsing now and I'll shall continue creating new work ^_^. A lot of the doodles you see on my Facebook page are for my portfolio and practicing new techniques. It's a lot of fun to see how you all respond to them and just want to say BIG THANK YOU for the support I get every single day!

Here's a peek at a new painting that I was working on. It's finished now.

Enjoy your day and till next time!!

18. Cupcake Randomness or not so Random?

Well Hello Everyone!

It has been a bit quiet here. I was planning to post something last week, but I got sick and well this put a halt to everything. I'm slowly getting back, but will take it easy for just a couple more days.

My mind took a trip on its own (well, many trips, but these are stories for another time) and started wonderingsomething. How do you eat your cupcake? Yes. Cupcakes are involved again. Why do I want to know this? No real reason here. I'm just dragging you into my randomness (I'm doing a TOP SECRET Master Research on Cupcakes...*adjust glasses*). If you are completely confused by this question, let me help you out by giving you a few options…

1. Twist the bottom and place on the frosting for asandwich cupcake. (side note: I read this method on the internet a few days back, apparently one gets a good frosting/cake ratio by doing this.)

2. Use a fork.

3. Fork? Goodness no. I have a delicateprocedure for this. First I bow, then I unwrap the cake, take tiny bites while both pinkies are stretched, search for crumbs and then fold the wrapping before I place it in the bin.

4. Stuff my face. Duh.

5. I...can not tell you.
Of course you can add your own option. You want to know what I do? Obviously stuffing my face when I’m outside and using a fork when I’m at home....

....maybe not hehe ^_^. As you can see...I got plenty of time to think while I was sick hehe.

With this uber important question I shall leave you to enjoy your Friday & weekend or you can stare blankly at a wall while you analyze the way you eat a cupcake OR come up with a interesting new way to eat a cupcake. Now that should be interesting to read haha.

Ciao Ciao!

20. Not The End of the World, but it still Sucks!

Hey Everyone!

Don't you just hate it when things just don't go as planned? Last week really wasn't a good week for me. Such an annoyance.

First I had to deal with a stupid virus on my laptop. I had a lovely schedule and WOOSH it went out of the window as the virus decided to take over. If you saw a pretty paper with a ribbon flying around...it was my schedule and to-do list.  Rude, I say! Luckily, I could do a final back-up of my files, before little bro completely reformatted everything again. So now...it's fixed and my laptop is all new again. It's funny, I really missed posting my daily updates on FB and I realized all over again how often I use my laptop and how much information I've stored on it. I still need to install a few things to do my work easier.  So that's why I haven't updated you all with new Etsy items or the FB Giveaway. Just keep an close eye on this blog or my FB Page as it will happen soon. People who are expecting an e-mail from me...stay tuned please!

Okay. Second thing that happened. I believe I mentioned a while ago that I applied for an Art Fund, well I got the news that I didn't get it and the only reason that I didn't get it is because I didn't study Art. Formality in a world where creativity plays the main role...it seems like such a contradiction. There was a chance that this would happen, but I really wished they would look at the other requirements, my motivation and my art, but well no. Like I said in my title, it is not the end of the world, but of course a part of me did hope for positive news as I put so much time and effort in my report and with the money I'd get, I could do some things a bit easier.

Ah well. I was really bummed for a day or so, because the waiting was nerve wrecking! Sheesh. Understatement of the year. However, it's their loss and it's a closed chapter now. So I'm just focusing on my other projects :D.

The illustrations in this post, the originals will be in my Etsy soon! Ah I love the pretty colors. Yes. I am a huge Color Nerd hehe.

Fancy another read by me? Then Get Ready To...Ramble!! This is my latest column ^_^

Ciao Ciao! Till next post!
21. TJ's WIP: Koalas, Koalas, Koalas!

Hi there!

Big thanks to everyone who read last post! It really means a lot to me and I'm glad that I wrote and shared a bit of my Aunt's story with you. I have a bunch of posts lined up for you guys, but let's start with a staring post. I haven't showed a new WIP in a loooong time, so I snapped some pics for you when I created the Koala illustration. From sketch to final painting...let the staring begin!

As you can see, the differences towards the end are quite subtle and unfortunately the camera doesn't really captures this. In real life you can see it all much, much better!

Keep a close eye on my Etsy Shop please! I know I haven't been persistent with promoting it, got a lot going on the last few weeks and I'm juggling my time the best I can, but I will update it with new art, original work AND there will be a discount coupon thingy ^_^

Until we meet again...Ciao! Display Comments Add a Comment
22. A Look in The Past: A Free Spirit.

It's storytelling time again and this is going to be a lengthy post...so get something to drink please ^_^

You know, ever since Istarted blogging in 2009, I wondered if I shouldwrite about her. I wondered if I couldshare this with you and if I did share it…howand when I would share it with you.

The how part is done by simply telling a story. Well...typing a storyhaha. All the other things I wondered about…well the timing simply wasn’t right for me.

I share a lot on my blog, but really personal things I don't share. Some things I share when the time isright. And this story…well there were two things I read the past couple ofweeks that made me realize that I have to share this. The first time was when Iread the beautifully poem by Melody, Theatre of the Night. The second time was a few days agowhen I read a wonderful post from my Sweet Cher. Cher has a brilliant series ofCharacters in Her Life and how they left a mark in her life. Her latest Character post was about her cousin Patricia, who reminded me so much of aCharacter I knew as well. Can you recall the post, Lost Friends, where I wroteabout how my neighbor influenced me with her long flowy hair? Most of my femalecharacters have this element. However, there has been one lady who probably influencedme even more than I ever thought she did and more than she will ever know.

So…it is time to share a glimpse in my Past again. With the passing of my Grandadlast year, I realized all over again how much impact an event like this canhave. My Grandad wasn’t my firstencounter with intense sadness though. The first one that really hit close to me was withher, my Aunt Sascha (pronounced as Sasha). Of course I have lost more people in my life, but most of them I barely knew, this doesn’t make them leaving Earth less meaningful though. It just changeswhen someone becomes an Angel who made an impact in your life. Sadly, sometimes you only find the hugeness of thisimpact when they are gone.

I looked up to her.  She was a quiet lady with a dreamy glance that was her trademark. When she looked at you, with her grey/green eyes, it made you feel like she saw more in you than everyone else. In my eyes s
he was so lovely and pretty. She absolutely loved nature andanimals. Next to that, she was a painter, a drawer and most of all a dreamer with a big lovefor everything Native American (anyone recall my love for feathers…hehe) and everything with a magical and fantasy touch. She had her own Imaginative World whereshe often wandered off too. Some blamed her for doing so and told her that she had to be more realistic.

She wasn’t my ‘real’ aunt. She was married to my mom’s brother, but even after the divorce, I kept seeing her as my aunt. She is the mother of my sweet cousin and she looks more likeher mom as each day passes.
After the divorce, I sawher less and less and before I knew it years passed by and then the news came thatshe was sick. She got a rare and very aggressive form of cancer. A form that isn't common at all for someone as young as she was. I believe she was 33 or 34 and sheunderwent her treatment like a warrior. She got the clear sign,

23. TJ's Projects: A Sisters Collab.

Ciaoooo!

I shall tell a bit more about the collab between my sister Cilla and I! Come a bit closer please and make yourself comfortable...not THAT comfortable. Sheesh, how are you going to read if your face is pressed against the screen :|...

But okay, let's start. I mentioned a few posts back that my sister is a Fashion Lady and a Beauty Guru. She has her own Youtube channel where she chats about all things beauty related. If you love Beauty & Fashion and random silliness...please subscribe to her ^_^

So as she is into Fashion & Beauty ( I do love it as well, but on a different level than her I think) and I am into illustration, it made perfect sense to do a little collab! My sister loves to cut and pimp her shirts and I love off-shoulder shirts/sweaters, but very often the designs in the store aren't fun enough for me. So what better way to create our own?

So excited here! We will be creating a few original hand-painted shirts. I'll show you more peeks of what will eventually be created on the shirts, because at the moment I'm just drawing and creating lots of sketches. In the upcoming days Cilla and I will mix and match from my designs and I'll create the final design. Having a clean ink drawing shouldn't be too difficult to transfer on a shirt. It should be fun to see how this particular way of painting will go and how you guys will respond on it! Who knows where it will take us right? Plus, most of you know that I can't sit still and I already have a few other projects in mind after this hehe.

But okay, we got our paint and various of art material ready. The only element that was a bit tricky were the shirts. We want a small stock, around 20-30 shirts as it's just a side project, so we don't want to have like 100 of shirts. Several shirts will be for ourselves and we will put a few up for sale. It depends on the demand if there will be a second shirt project, but first things first! We have to survive this one hehe. So first I searched here and there on the web, but a lot of manufacturers sell from 100 shirts or more. Which make perfect sense from their point of view and for larger companies, but I am not a store (yet) so this is a no go for me. After a bit more searching, I thought I'd found a company where I could buy a small stock of shirts. After a bit of e-mailing the salesperson said that the shipping would be $120. This is a tad too expensive, considering the shirts would only be $108. Paying more for shipping than actual item is not smart. I did found a company in Holland, called Creativ Company, that sold 100% cotton white shirts for a fair price, but I still wasn't sure, so I turned to my friend Dean for some advice.

24. Sifting Through Thoughts and Papers pt. 1

(peeks from behind piles of paper)

Oh my goodness! I reached 400 readers :D So happy here! Thank you so much lovely people! You know, I wonder if I ever get out of this cleaning mode, but okay, I have a few small updates for you.

Canceled 2nd blog.
I chatted to a few friends and after some thinking I decided to cancel my 2nd blog and post my columns solemnly on Expats Post (more on this soon). I divide you guys a bit all over the place now and to be honest keeping track of all I do is a tad much at times. So my column will be published there and every now and then I shall post a reminder here. Of course everyone who has me on Facebook or Twitter will see the tweets and status updates twirling by.

To everyone who followed me there and not here, please keep an eye on it and switch to this one if you want to stay up to date ^_^.

New commission/shop policies
I re-wrote my commission and shop policies. The last one was focused on the mugs I created, but now I changed directions, so needed to change my policies. I highly advice you read them as I (hopefully) provide you with enough information on how I work, price calculation so you can decide whether you want to hire me or not. Prices are quite difficult to point out as I used to end up doing more work then planned and as much as I love creating, I have to be sensible and realistic with my time and pricing.

Do NOT be afraid to e-mail once you've read it all and still have questions though. I don't bite...hehe.

Shopping!
Don't forget that you can get my stuff at two places now: Etsy & Zazzle. I have a permanent tab and a widget in the sidebar for them. Zazzle is really for those who just want to order stuff without the hassle of contacting me. All products listed on Etsy have gone through my hands. I signed it, added extra details, wrap it up for you and fly to the post office. Also, original pieces will be listed on Etsy alone as well. Remember, I'll work with small stocks, so if prints/cards are gone, they are gone unless you guys keep asking for moooorrrreee! hehe.

NOTE: I've FINALLY ordered new prints of sketches and new art. These will arrive next week and will be added in my Etsy shop and I'll be doing a giveaway when I reach 300 likes on Facebook!!! Stay tuned for an update.

25. TJ's Project: The Red Dress Creation.

Hi Everyone!

Okay, I shall share a sneak peek of what went on in my brain when I created the Red Dress illustration.

After doing a bit of research I wanted to try and see if I could paint a flowy dress. It's all about leaving highlights and creating shading for movement and it's linked to the small project with my sister (which I'll tell more about next time). So I grabbed my brushes and started. No wait, I grabbed a pencil and sketched out a base...then I started painting hehe. The painting of the dress went surprisingly well and then...the head got messed up. I totally drew it too small, but it looked fine when I sketched it out. So rude of my own perspective. This was the first dress.

So I kept staring at the empty area, where the head would be, so I did the following....I started whining at  Cilla (my sister who is a Fashion Beauty Guru lady) that I messed it up. She was sitting on the couch and I sat at the dining table waving my arms from side to side, going like 'Cillaaaaa! Cillaaaaa I messed it up! The head is tooo smalll! I messed it up!!!!'

Yeah *ahem*. Let's continue. I re-drew it again and painted it with a more intense red and I double checked if the head was correct. But another problem started floating around. I did not like the head I drew or it's the hairdo. It didn't fit the feeling I wanted the painting to have. However everything did match this time, but still not quite right.

Yes....I did what any normal person would do. I whined again. "Cillaaaaa! OMG! The hairdo is annoying me!! I messed up again! I do like the dress though, but the haaaaiiirrr! OMG"

Yeah. Some whining can be needed to get the frustrating out of my system and I think I used a stronger word to express how I messed up again, but I don't want you guys to faint...my apologies, Cilla.

So I just put everything aside and proceeded to paint what now is known as Jello Lady. I'll give her a few siblings I think.
So after I got that out of my system. I picked up the
