27. Over on the Farm

Written by Marianne Berkes, illustrated by Cathy Morrison, published by Dawn Publishing
Ok, it's not a birthday image, (our inspirational word for June is Birthday) but it's the cover for a book I have coming out Spring 2016. Artwork for this book is complete and I'm working away on a second book that will be released the same date. I'll post more about this book and others on my Studio With A View Blog soon.

Thanks for taking a look!

28. Hoot says the owl

Over On The Farm
Here's one more image representing WINGS. I wanted to post this before April turns to May. This is for an upcoming picture books written by Marianne Berkes and will be out Spring of 2016. It will be a counting book for very young kids. Can you count the owls? I have a few more images from this book on my Studio With A View Blog. Thanks for taking a look.

29. WINGS for April!

If You Love Honey by Martha Sullivan, illustrated by Cathy Morrison
April's theme word is WINGS, so here's some blue jays to welcome spring. This is a spread from If You Love Honey, by Martha Sullivan, published by Dawn Publications and illustrated by me, Cathy Morrison. It's the second book I've illustrated for Martha and I'm a huge fan of her writing. It seems like kids like her as well.

This is set to come out September 2015. Thanks for taking a look!

30. Home is where the heart is...

Houses don't come in one shape or size. The mole lives underground, the seal lives in the ocean and the  deer and fox live in the meadow.

These are illustrations from Pitter and Patter written by Martha Sullivan, published by Dawn Publishing and illustrated by me, Cathy Morrison. It's one of their new spring releases.

Welcome Home and Happy Spring!

31. Buzzing about Valentines

"If You Love Honey, Nature's Connections" written by Martha Sullivan and illustrated by Cathy Morrison
OK, let me explain… This month's theme is Valentine and this image has nothing to do with Valentine. But this is an illustration for If You Love Honey, Nature's Connections. So I'm connecting Valentine with Love and that's why I'm posting this image.

And I just posted new images from this book on my own blog if you'd like to see more.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

42. Digital Drawing on Photographs

Allium artwork

I have a little more to share about our trip to France, but for now, here’s a little artwork.

On a recent flight from Boston to Charlotte, I took a break from reading and started fiddling around with an app (Adobe Ideas), drawing on some of my photographs. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some of these before, both pre and post-drawing.

Floral Arrangement

Fun, eh? Have a favorite?

Floral Artwork

Just finished watching the BBC adaptation of Dickens’ Bleak House. Really enjoyed it. Currently reading Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth (it’s the memoir upon which the show is based). Now watching Bletchley Circle. I seem to be in a BBC/ British kind of mood.

43. Boat is waaaaay over there, keep looking....

Pitter and Patter
Every month I look forward to June's inspirational word-of-the-month. July's word is BOAT. I don't really have an illustration of a boat that I care to post so you'll have to use your imagination a little. Imagine that there's a boat on the river but it's out of the frame, so you can't see it from here. And while you're imagining what sort of boat it is, why it's there, who's on the boat, please take a look at the dragonfly, otter and trout.

45. May Flowers!

The Prairie That Nature Built
Here's more images for May's flower theme. I love purple flowers and they are popping up everywhere in northern Colorado. Last week almost three feet of snow, this week lots and lots of beautiful spring flowers.

Below are a couple of cropped images from The Prairie That Nature Built. I want to highlight the flowers in nature!

49. The Prairie That Nature Built

This is the rain that splatters the ground,
And quenches the fire
that blazed all around.
This is a spread from The Prairie That Nature Built, written by Marybeth Lorbiecki, illustrated by me, Cathy Morrison, and published by Dawn Publishing. It comes out September 1, 2014.

A wild prairie is a lively place in this rhythmic romp with munchers and crunchers above and below the grasses so thick, and fires that flare, and rains that quench and always the prairie grows green. Back matter offers information and activities for a fuller appreciation of this marvelous, disappearing habitat.

50. A bear in a hat!

Here is a quick bear sketch from me, to join in with the March theme word.

As we are into Spring, and the days are lighter.. green shoots are pushing upwards and flowers are opening their hearts, and Betty couldn't resist adding a few to her straw hat to celebrate.
