COMPUTATIVE CHAMELEON

For some reason I felt compelled to redraw this little guy from a few years ago when the Illustration Friday word was “adapt” Perhaps more appropriate? You decide.

Well, it  must be karma… get it… karma karma karma karma karma chameleon. No? Oh come on! How can you see the word chameleon without that song going through your head?

Unless you’re under 30.

Nevermind.

5. Review: Chamelia

While most chameleons prefer to blend in, Chamelia loves to stand out, especially in the way she dresses! Bold colors, sequins and animal prints fill her wardrobe. But sometimes, standing out means being left out. As Chamelia begins to feel this way, her parents let her know that standing out isn’t the only way to feel special. She must find a way to join in and still be herself. Click here to read more.

6. Trippy

I had far too many irons in the fire this week: processing what I learned at last week's Fall Philly SCBWI conference, participating all this week in The Muse Online Writer's Conference, and preparing for KitLitCon this weekend. Something had to give, and that something was my book review prep for this week. But never fear: beginning next Friday I'll have reviews up of some great Halloween book faves of mine.

While you're here, though, grab the kiddos and check out this awesome vid:

That alone was worth the click to get here, now, wasn't it?

7. Bobo Versus Chameleon

Don't worry! This thing was rescued! Of course there's a long story in between...

8. Harry!

I am working on several reviews which I am anxious to post but I need to get them "right."

In the meantime, I thought this article about phenomena à la Harry Potter was interesting.

Potter the phenomenon doesn't compare for suspense, but like the wizard's tale, it is unique and extraordinary and well placed in tradition. Like Star Wars and Star Trek, it is the story of how a work of popular art becomes a world of its own — imitated, merchandised and analyzed, immortalized not by the marketers, but by the fans.

"Every phenomenon is a kind of myth unto itself, a myth about how a phenomenon becomes a phenomenon. The story of how the public embraced Potter only gives more momentum to Potter in our culture," says Neal Gabler, an author and cultural critic whose books include Walt Disney and Life the Movie: How Entertainment Conquered Reality.
