Symmetry is fun, although I have read somewhere it should be avoided in character design. Sketchbook Pro has a symmetry image tool.
I’ve been working hard in my sketchbook, I’ve also got some posts planned for the future on customizing your workspace for digital art.

I decided to take some time to scan a few things from my sketchbooks so far this year.
Some are studies of anatomy I made from “Anatomy and Drawing” by Victor Perard, some are studies from a book about animation and other’s are studies of animals and also various things from my head.
I’m just going to lump them all here as a gallery.

Indeed it does.
Flipping through my old sketchbook today made me smile. Sketches to me are like a time machine. Within every line, curve and shading it takes me right back to where I’d drawn it. It reminds me of the smallest detail of that particular day I drew something, from the type of pencil I used right down to how the weather was or the silly things that were occupying my mind at the time.
Old sketches for me are like getting a whiff of an old familiar scent. The kind that bum rushes you in some idle afternoon and fills you up with all sorts of memories that your mind has attached the smell to.
Amazing. I think if I ever lost my memory these old sketches would help bring it all back..
OK no more procrastinating. I have so much to do today.

I bought a new web cam because I was not very impressed with the last one I got (Microsoft Lifecam), this one is a Hue HD web cam and is a lot better and it looks cute too.
I think Sketchbook Pro is really good for sketching so far, I haven’t had it for very long but it wins against Painter for that purpose.
I’m wearing my big headphones in this picture, they may make me look silly but they block all sound out and make music sound brilliant.

Why should your new book just sit there? Why not take advantage of the web and create a new kind of reading experience?
Earlier today we saw haw Larry Doyle built hypertext links for an essay in a normally paper-driven magazine--what you might call a networked essay.
Today, Galleycat explored more recently published examples networked books. It's an interesting list, and well worth reading. Check it out:
"Of course, it's possible to take this model even further, and Harvard University Press has just published an edition of McKenize Wark's Gamer Theory that incorporates feedback from readers who saw an earlier version of the book online last year. It also features "visualizations" of Wark's concepts, including this nifty bit of colorized ASCII art by Ben Delarre that renders the entire text of Gamer Theory as a Mario Bros. level"
As I reported last year, The Institute for the Future of the Book coined the term networked book. Last year they published a comprehensive list of networked books on the web, places where writers and readers hash out grand interactive experiments.
In my recent spree of lists, I just built my own, highly subjective list of the Top Five Networked Books I've read. Add your favorites in the comments section.
