Yesterday I got what I asked for. An answered prayer in the most unlikely situation. Jesus showed up, just like the Brandon Heath song says, "in disguise". If Jesus knows me at all...and I know He does...then He knows how to get my attention. Perhaps not my favorite way...but again, He knows me...
On the way to work, the passenger side doors of my Honda CRV met up with a very old and oversized van. I think the nice officer called it "an illegal lane change". The other driver was charged. There is about $1900 in damage to my car. Thank God for insurance. Thank God no one was hurt.
And thank God for sending me Jesus in disguise.
The driver of the van was a tiny and little older man with a wild beard, wild hair, not alot of teeth...very frayed and tattered clothing. If passing this man on the street, I might walk a wider circle, or perhaps pass him altogether. I forgot to mention...the man also raised his shirt to show me his colostomy bag. Yes this happened. No I have never seen one. Yes, a bit freaked out...
Interesting...and perhaps you are wondering where I might see Jesus in the situation. Especially, in a man who looked as if he shouldn't even be driving, and in a van that didn't look road worthy.
The first thing I noticed about Mr. G was the cross he wore around his neck. It wasn't something cheap. I can tell you it seemed hand crafted, or at least carefully chosen. It was beautiful. And this is all I saw for the rest of our time together. The little, wild looking man has a huge heart for Jesus! I would not know this by looking at his outward appearance, but his insides are beautiful!
How does this answer a prayer? Well...very simple...I want to see people the way God sees them...and to be able to love people the way God loves all people. How can I possibly move ahead in my life if I don't understand this concept? So...for me, Jesus revealed something to my heart yesterday. Even now, if I think about the incident, I don't see the physical details of anything. I only feel the joyful imprint the experience left on my heart.
My hope is that God continues to move in my life like He did yesterday! Hopefully, not all situations will be this "expensive". But God knows my heart, and He knows I will need more encounters to keep breaking down whatever He feels needs to be done, in order to get me where He wants me to be.
I felt the need to share this story :) Have a wonderful day!!!

I'm a bit behind in posting anything lately...I'm trying to do better! Day 6...sketch for a book I am working on (two for one!).
This year I joined PiBoIdMo challenge (Picture Book Idea Month) and the SkADaMo...or Sketch a Day Month.
For the month of November my sketchbook is to be a playground for all of the ideas and words trapped in my imagination :)
I think it's time to go play! Have a creative and wonderful day!

I found a few pieces of Halloween art I did a few years ago and I thought I would repost 1 or 2 of them again (since I haven't had time this month!)

This was actually the illustration for the theme "Scattered" but I didn't finish in time. Instead I made it work for this week by stretching it! Fueled by a favorable wind, these mice are off to find a new adventure!

I have been absent from my blog for far too long. So, I decided to knock the dust off of the dashboard and start with the basics...one entry written, one entry illustrated. Another talented illustrator, Wendy Martin, tweeted today that she was going to post a coloring page...thank you Wendy for spurring me into action! Color Me Monday was the result (if today had been a Wednesday it would have been called Color Me Wednesday...very creative, I know...) Illustrated entry...done.
The written part will get better in time...a little practice...a little discipline (okay, a lot of discipline...) The goal is to share something that is meaningful and inspiring :)
If you haven't checked this out it's worth a peek: www.myfolio.com. I signed up for a free month to see what it was all about. I can tell you that I am in the company of some pretty amazing and talented illustrators! The cost is more than reasonable, too.
If you are not a member of the SCBWI, now is the time to visit www.scbwi.org and join. I attended the SCBWI Carolinas conference in September and came back a changed illustrator...for the better.
Please feel free to share your thoughts...they're always welcome!
