Dynamite Entertainment has established a new partnership with Humble Bundle. The two collaborators will offer a deal called the “Best-Selling Authors Bundle.”
Customers can choose between the publisher or a non-profit as the recipient of their money. They will have three charity options: the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, Doctors Without Borders (a.k.a. Médecins Sans Frontières), and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Here’s more from the press release: “The ‘pay what you want’ model offers readers the chance to unlock over 120 comics, and over 3,500 pages of content. This will give graphic lit fans access to: Charlaine Harris’ Grave Sight Part 1 by Charlaine Harris, The Shadow Vol 1: Fire of Creation by Garth Ennis and Aaron Campbell, Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thomson: Hopcross Jilly by Patricia Briggs, The Complete Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Leah Moore, and John Reppion, Sherlock Holmes: Year One by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Scott Beatty, The Spider Vol. 1: Terror of the Zombie Queen by David Liss and Francesco Francavilla, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Echoes by Tom Clancy. As the bundle progresses, there will be a running average.”
The Jean Cocteau Cinema will host an art exhibit on The Spiderwick Chronicles series. It will showcase illustration pieces by Tony DiTerlizzi.
The artwork will be on display throughout the month of February. In addition to this exhibit, the cinema will also host screenings of the 2008 film adaptation.
On March 1, DiTerlizzi will appear and sit down for a conversation with George R.R. Martin. Martin, the author behind the the A Song of Ice and Fire series, is actually the owner of this Santa Fe-based movie theater.
George R.R. Martin announced on his blog that he has not finished the manuscript for the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The Wall Street Journal reports that it’s unlikely that The Winds of Winter will be ready for release prior to the premiere of the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones show.
Here’s an excerpt from Martin’s blog post: “Yes, there’s a lot written…But there’s also a lot still left to write. I am months away still… and that’s if the writing goes well. (Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn’t.) Chapters still to write, of course… but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures.”
According to The Gothamist, “television viewers will be wholly ahead of book readers—we can safely say there will never be another Red Wedding reactions video-type occurrence again.” The first episode of the new season will air in April 2016. What’s the most inspiring literature that Games of Thrones author George R.R. Martin ever read? Marvel Comics.
Martin revealed his taste in an interview at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival back in 2014. Here is an excerpt from Indiewire:
‘The Marvel comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960s,’ he claimed proudly. ‘I had been reading DC comics before that, from Superman to Batman and The Flash, but when Marvel came along Stan Lee broke all the rules. Nothing ever happened in the DC comic books. They were circular. Superman would have an adventure but by the end he would finish in the same place where he started. Batman would have an adventure and come right back to where he was before. Nothing ever changed. There was no conflict. There were good guys and there were bad guys.’
