Let's draw and illustrate like there's no tomorrow!
Or well. Actually, there sure is a tomorrow. Because that's when my online workshop
on illustrating recipes and drawing food is starting!
1. Keep it simple when you're drawing.
A recycled piece of cardboard, white paint and a black fineliner can get you a long way.
2. To give your lettering that 'je ne sais quoi',
use alphabet stamps. Play around with them to get fun results!
3. Draw your food to get a daily routine of making art.
You're eating every day anyway, right?
It also helps you to document great recipes.
4. You can totally pull it off and create a simple illustrated recipe like this too!
Choose something with few ingredients to start with an take it step by step.
You can do it!
Like these three previous participants did for example:

By Tina Johnson |
|
By Cathy Levesque |
|
By Kaiva Narbute |
There's so much more where all this came from.
Will you join my online class?

here is a smaller size version of my FIRST entry to they draw and cook. it is for a contest entitled cooking 4 kids
http://www.theydrawandcook.com/cooking-4-kids-contest
as soon as i came across this contest a week or so ago, i knew had to give it a shot. with two other deadlines looming at the time, there was still no stopping me. i have been wanting to illustrate a recipe for the longest time now so this was the perfect opportunity.
i knew i wanted it to be easy to read, easy to follow, cute and most importantly healthy. so i figured with fall right around the corner....why not do something with pumpkins (which i love)!
i took my sweet little character pippa, some pumpkins, an easy recipe...and a cute little crow and voila...pippa's pumpkin smoothie!
i just submitted it to they draw and cook so i'm waiting to see how it looks once they review it nad post it on their site. SUPER EXCITED!!!

Its been so looong, but lost of things have been happening, good things. But now things are back to normal, almost normal. This is my latest illustration for They Draw & Cook, for the cooking 4 kids contest. Hope you enjoy it and you should really try this one, its delicious.
Hooray! I finally finished my little painting - the first one I've done in an embarrassing stretch of time. I was really tempted to make this a bit more 3D as I had been working, but the canvas texture was sort of a dominating factor, and I didn't want to put myself off to just plain finishing it. I can't wait to hang it in my daughter's room and move on to my next project. There are so many little 'fun' projects to choose from if you aren't burdened by actual deadlines. Here's what I'm mulling over working on next:
They Draw and Travel
They Draw and Cook
Undercovered Cover Art
Illustration Rally
or maybe just a good ol' Illustration Friday
Thanks to
They Draw and Cook, my chef kitty's top secret chocolate chip cookies recipe are now available as a print on canvas over at
Great Big Canvas. Its also going to be in the
book coming out in October!
To celebrate the launch of their new site
They Draw & Cook has teamed up with
California Figs for a new $2,000 "Year of the Fig Recipe Contest." Entries are due on March 21!

There are so many creative outlets that go hand in hand. Many actors enjoy painting, many dancers enjoy singing and many artists enjoy cooking. Well, if you're one of those artists that enjoy cooking there's a great little blog for you.
They Draw and Cook is a fun blog where numerous, talented artists, illustrators and designers share their favorite recipes through their wonderfully, creative artwork.
They Draw and Cook was created by artists
Nate Padavick and Salli Swindel. The brother and sister team specialize in artwork for greeting cards, illustrations for magazines and graphic design for arts organizations. Every day on
They Draw and Cook a new recipe is posted. And eventually the brother and sister dynamic duo have plans to publish the blog as a book. So if you love to draw, cook and eat (Who doesn't?) then head on over to this fun spot on the web. And yes - of course -
you can submit a recipe of your own.Top Illustration by Sarah WardMiddle Illustration by Gaia BordicchiaBottom Illustration by Jo Thompson
