One of the slimiest, shiftiest villain to ever grace the silver screen was the despicable Hans Guber, as portrayed by Alan Rickman, in the original “Die Hard”.
Under the guise of a group of international terrorists, the cold and ruthless Hans and his cohorts merely wish to steal 640 million dollars in bearer bonds from the vault of the Nakatomi Building in Los Angeles. Their plans are eventually thwarted by visiting New York City cop, resourseful John McClane, the self-proclaimed “fly in the ointment; monkey in the wrench”.
“Die Hard” is actually based on the 1979 novel “Nothing Lasts Forever” by Roderick Thorp. The book, itself a sequel to Thorp’s novel “The Detective” (filmed in 1968 with star Frank Sinatra), was adapted for the action film with several alterations, most notably the inclusion of the Hans Gruber character, who did not originally appear.
Josh Pincus is Crying has even more of my illustrations.
This an idea I have been toying with for a long time. I did this illustration for my own enjoyment but decided to submit it to Threadless just for the fun of it.

I have not been to MondayArtday for a while and I am glad to see it is still going strong. I look forward to seeing more great work, from all of you, in the future.
The Triumphant Return 16 x 24 Pen & Ink, Digital Color, Vector Elements.
I know this is super late and not up for the competition, but I thought I would share it. I was inspired by the flying machines prompt. It made me wonder: what if dinosaurs left earth, rather than going extinct, and then finally came home to assert their dominance.
It is up for scoring at Threadless.com, as a T-shirt print, if you feel so inclined to vote.
I did this awhile ago, right at the time of the election. It seems the sentiment implied here has faded a bit.
...and no, I do not mean Christmas in France.
After years of name calling Morton made it his life goal to get access to the button. So don't call him yellow, nerd, or geek; he will push the button. You ask me what button I speak of? I tell you, man, it is THE one.
10.5 x 5.5 Pen and ink, and digital color.
It has been awhile and it is good to be back.
I have not been around lately and I have not been doing a whole lot of extracurricular art lately. I may not post for a while either. This is a design for "Griffin Day 5k" a day to support my family and my son. May 2oth 2009 he was diagnosed with Leukemia. The doctor told us we were lucky that it was Leukemia ALL because it has a 80-90% cure rate. Quote:"if your child is to get cancer, this is the one you want to get." We actually have been blessed by support from our family and community; we have been quite lucky in that regard.
If you want to learn more or support the Griffin Day 5k go here.
Design: My son with cells in an exploded out view to the left. Cancer cells (red circles) are intertwined with white blood cells (yellow circle for design sake) which then fade until there is no cancer cells. Purple is my sons favorite color, hence the purple shirt.
The winner for the "Doofus" challenge is:
Josh (musarter) Billings!
Congratulations to Josh Billings. It seems that "doofus" left most of you uninspired. Those that did participate, though, really came through with so fantastic illustrations. Thanks!
Here is a doofus that I hope is not too late. When I think of great doofuses, as defined by this challenge, I think of the television show "Freaks and Geeks." An underrated show that was unceremoniously canceled after only one season, "Freaks and Geeks" had so many great characters. This guy would have fit in perfectly with his D & D handbook in hand.
This can ruin a nice day at the beach. Technically, this could work for "doofus" too.
This a recycle from IF "string, but my "Doofus" will be new, I promise.
I always found it hard to take anyone seriously who wears a vest and chaps.
Just a little sketch...would have liked to have finished...Deadlines, Deadlines, DEAD----lines.
No action and no story here. I just wanted to do a portrait in my style. I did not get to the style part; I wanted to add color and texture. So, here is a strange drawing instead.
What a coe-inka-dink. This is one of three designs I submitted for "The Black Keys"s Dan Auerbach who just came out with a great new album. If you want to way on your favorite t-shirt designs visit my blog.
I just finished reading "The Watchmen." This picture was inspired by what would have happened if the smartest man in the world's plan did not go according to plan.
I don't know why, but when I saw "robots" I thought of a giant subterranean robot holding a child in it's hand. I think it could be the root of a great epic.
When I think of Schoolhouse rock I think of the song, "A Bill on Capital Hill." As a kid it made the process of passing a bill sound fun. As an adult my view of passing bills has changed a bit.
I little late, I know. This is an image I recreated from "The Tale of Benjamin Bunny." I have been reading her stories to my young son and I have been impressed by her illustration style; she was really good with atmospheric perspective and a great degree of realism from observation. So I tried to incorporate some of that into my interpretation.
The other night, while I was reading "The Tale of Benjamin Bunny" out loud, I decided it sounded more appropriate uttered in the Old Queens English; which is a corny British accent on my part.
Monday Artday MONTHLY Winner
for the month of
JULY
Josh (musarter) Billings
Josh (musarter) posted well and posted often in the month of July. He got lots of comments and was very supportive himself. Josh's artwork is top notch so he deserves this Monthly Challenge win! Congrats, Josh!
Remember, to win the Monthly Challenge, post often (not just the themes), post well, and be supportive. I'll announce the August winner some time next week.
Congrats to Josh Billings (musarter)!
Josh Billings (musarter) is chosen as this week's winner for his clever steampunk interpretation of a wild west transformer. Josh has been delivering great pieces every week so I'm happy that he's got the win this week. There were many great entries (awesome story and illo, Josh Pincus - and fantastic imaginings, Emila, Bleasby and Martha!) Everyone did great. You guys are all awesome!
This is a drawing of my favorite tree from my childhood. It was the greatest climbing tree ever. It even had a place where a branch separated and grew back together to form a throne to sit on. It was an avocado tree, so it also provided a tasty snack and a plenitude of amo to through at neighborhood bullies.
I grew up in Leucadia, California, which was entirely covered in avocado orchards and small green houses before anyone started building real houses. It was a lazy beach town with a population comprised of surfers, hippies, and immigrants. As the years wore on, the trees were all but sacrificed for the cement and wood of housing and commercial pursuits. The beach culture, that I loved, was transformed into a consumer culture. Yet through it all this tree still stands on Sanford St. in the front yard of the house I grew up in.
OK, here is another entry. This is for a band for which I did a few designs. There are two different designs with completely different directions: Political and Whimsical.
Hey, better late than never.
I have trying to squeeze in time to finish this one. It took so much longer than I thought it would.
In the U.K.
Peg legs manifest complications at the most inopportune moments.
This is an oldie but goodie.

I saw this in the blogroll on Elizabeth Rose Stanton’s site and I said to myself....”That looks like Hans Gruber!” Die Hard is one of my altime favorite movies. You nailed him Josh! (Never knew that about Nothing Lasts Forever.... thanks for the info.
