A fitting complement to the Michael Graves commentary—here is Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz) on the joy of drawing:
“It’s about reaching that moment of pure ecstasy when a drawing just happens. Where every move you make with your hand and every thought you have in your head grows in front of you without any mistakes; no rubbing out, starting again and getting frustrated. It’s like being in a trance – it’s a fluid – and you almost don’t remember doing the picture. Drawing is an escape from all the unnecessary things in life that get in the way of being free.”
I’m looking forward to the new Gorilaz album, Plastic Beach. More than the music, I’m looking forward to the animation and visuals that Jamie Hewlett will bestow on us. This trailer for the album certainly whets the appetite.
the look of it is very cool, can't wait to see what they do with it

Seems like quite a different stylistic tack for this album – more deliberately retro in technique than ever before. I've long thought Mr Hewlett could do no wrong, but everything I've seen for the new album so far (the title graphics, the website) has left me a little cold.

The diving boards are intriguing, as are the final shots below the surface. Cool stuff.

It's nice, but I would have liked to have seen some of the characters-I guess they want people left hanging :)
Also hope they stick to 2D animation!

This seems very reminiscent of the start to Nitendo 64's Donkey Kong game … However, I haven't seen it in quite some time, but that's what I thought of immediately. The DK game even has a ship that circles around the island and an underwater shot. Anyone else remember it? Are the similarities intentional?

3 plus minutes of a flying camera around a single set? Boring…
The charm of gorillaz came from the characters and the intelligent use of limited 2d animation. I don't care about 2d versus 3d, but c'mon! Where's the band???

Yes Yes, exactly what I thought, DK64 main world looks alot like this and also banjo kazooie 2nd level is very similar. This looks amazing but what is it? can not be cgi, looks like a stop-mo model.
WOW. That’s a…cover.
