28. SBP 2011: Peter Pan

Sketchbook Project 2011: Peter Pan

Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, (1904) is a play by Scottish playwright and novelist, J.M. Barrie. Peter and Wendy is his novelization of it. (1911)

Here Peter and his faerie friend, Tinkerbell, are showing the Darling children the way to Neverland. Neverland is a magical place where Peter and Tinkerbell live along with the Lost Boys, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Princess Tiger Lily and the natives of the island. On the island they have fabulous adventures where there are no adults to tell them what to do. And no one grows old!

36. Sketchbook Project Pages 12 - 14

As the monster from "the other side" pulls her coat off she finds herself back in the bedroom (yes, she has escaped in the nick of time). What will happen if she tries on other coats from the chest?...

See the entire story here (as it progresses).

37. Sketchbook Project — Sailing

This one was inspired by Joy Steuerwald's 'Where the Wild Things Are' piece over on Sketchables. I liked the ideas of all that water. I also like to do night scenes. I'm keeping with my fast and loose edict in my sketchbook, but this one did take a little more time. It's been awhile since I did a finished pencil drawing like this. Even so, it's not as finished as I used to do them.

38. Sketchbook Project — Trees

It's no secret that I LOVE trees. I am fascinated, inspired, and awed by trees. Here are a few new pages from my sketch book. I'm managing to keep it loose, so far. My goal with this project is to stay loose and have fun. So far so good.

Sketchbook Project 2011: Paul Bunyon

Here is Paul Bunyon and his blue ox, Babe. I am switching to pencils for a while on some of these just to get it completed within the time frame. Plus I like mixing it up a little :) Thanks for stopping by my blog!

40. Animal Wednesday: Three's a charm-er

I've been busy with this little project today and I feel like I'm in the zone.
As I drew this sweet mutt, I noticed I was making his nose and markings look like hearts, so that's how I decided what to write above his head.
I actually can't stand this cutesy saying, but I think it fits him to a tee.
Besides, I really, really ♥ him ;)

I figured since I was on a roll I may as well bang out the back cover.

42. Animal Wednesday: I have begun!

Many of you know I've joined the Sketchbook Project revolution with thousands of other artists across the globe. Please click on the link to learn more about it in case you don't have a clue what I'm talking about.
This blank journal has been on my desk for a month. I know it will be filled with both realism and whimsy. My theme is "It's Raining Cats and Dogs."
This morning I looked at that darn blank cover and decided to just jump in!
I won't (for once) criticize it and say what I see wrong with it. I'm just going to fill these pages and let them be what they will be.
So, many more Animal Wednesdays to follow will show the progress of this little book.
I look forward to sharing it with you!
Happy Animal Wednesday ;)
xoxo♥

43. SBP: 2011 The Trickster Tricked

Or “The Tortoise and the Hare”

The Sketchbook Project 2011: The Trickster Tricked

Rabbit was determined to win the race, so he plucked up the last few ounces of his strength and sprinted up the hill, passing the Terrapin (the tortoise) with the white feather. He was nearly there! Rabbit rounded the last corner and braked to a halt in astonishment. Sitting by the stake, waving his white feather proudly, was Terrapin. He had won the race!

44. SBP 2011: The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Sketchbook Project 2011: Three Billy Goats Gruff

The littlest billy goat is the first to cross and is immediately stopped by the troll who threatens to “gobble him up!” The little goat convinces him to wait for the bigger billy goat to come across because he is larger and more gratifying as a feast

46. SBP 2011: Cinderella

Canary Prince WIP The Sketchbook Project has been a great stress reliever for me.  With my impending entrance into college again, I have been busy getting classes organized, books ordered, supplies in check.  I am excited about starting college, but I am also a little nervous.  It is hard to get back into the college mind set of reading, writing, memorizing, etc.  So for me, one of the best stress relievers is art.  This is where the Sketchbook Project has been a life saver.  Back to basics has really helped me.  Pencils, paper, ink, and paints.  No computers, no Wacom, no Photoshop.  A nice change.  Here is my next entry, continuing on with my Nighttime Stories…From Around The World:

48. TSBP 2011: The Canary Prince

Sketchbook Project 2011: The Canary Prince

My latest piece for the Sketchbook Project 2011.  The Canary Prince is a story that is told in Italy.  The storyline is comparable to the more familiar story of Rapunzel.

Watercolor, ink, and graphite.

49. Weekending with a Sketchbook

We went to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk yesterday, though these pics are from a week ago.

I had the distinct pleasure of watching everybody else ride on the rides, but I took advantage of my me time and broke out the moleskin. I walked around and sketched. Fun!

I was encouraged by this blog post written by my Twitter friend Elizabeth Caldwell.

You can see I immortalized her on page 11. I'm not happy with the quality of these sketches, but I am happy with the act of sketching. I really need to play more. I was just scribbling and it felt great! I'm recording my life in this book and sometimes it, like the sketches, is not pretty.

I just picked up Drawing Lab and I can't wait to play with it. I'm also revisiting The Creative Life by Danny Gregory.

50. Sketchbook Project

I finally got up my nerve to do something with my sketchbook, for the Sketchbook Project. I've had this thing for weeks! This sketchbook is supposed to allow me to play, but I freeze up every time I pick it up. This spread is actually on pages 6-7. Don't ask what happened to page 1-5!

This is as far as I could get on the first page. You can just see the bad sketch of my dog on the next page.
