1. Happy 27th Birthday, Daniel Radcliffe!

Today marks Dan Radcliffe’s 27th Birthday, falling just over a week before Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling’s birthdays.

Dan is busy with two performances in off-broadway show Privacy today (Bonnie Wright visited him this week!), so some fans may be getting to see him on his special day over in New York.

If not, join us in reminiscing over 15 years of seeing Dan grow from being The Boy Who Lived to being in films such as The Woman in BlackSwiss Army Man,  Horns and featuring in Broadway’s Equus.

Thankfully, he’s got a busy schedule ahead of him, promising no deficit of Dan in the future! He’ll be featuring in Jungle and Imperium, and Now You See Me 2 is still in cinemas.

2. Harry and Ginny Reunite: Bonnie Wright at Daniel Radcliffe’s Play ‘Privacy’

Mr. and Mrs. Potter reunited on Thursday when Bonnie Wright (along with Chris Columbus–director of the first two Potter films) attended a performance of Daniel Radcliffe’s new off-Broadway play Privacy.

Bonnie later posted a photo of the three to her Instagram and shared her thoughts on the performance:

“Reunion! Congrats Dan on another stellar performance. Google is terrifying and I’m now scared to use my phone. Can say no more. Go see Privacy!”

The documentary-style play is inspired by the actions of Edward Snowden and takes a critical look at the concept of privacy in the digital age. Privacy runs through August 14 at Public’s Newman Theater.

3. Ralph Fiennes Had to Be Persuaded to Play Voldemort!

After Dan Radcliffe admitted to actually being intimidated by Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, Ralph told Metro that he almost didn’t take the role that he played so convincingly!

Digital Spy reports:

“I took ages to be persuaded to do Harry Potter and I have no regrets at all. I didn’t know the books. I had seen the first Harry Potter film and I didn’t feel that sort of material was something that appealed to me.”

“But then my sister rang me up and said, ‘They’ve asked you to play Voldemort. Do you not realise how big this is?

“She has children who were reading Harry Potter, so suddenly I became aware.”

Fiennes has recently portrayed M in the iconic James Bond film series, and after Voldemort he says he’s done playing bad guys:

“I just didn’t want to play malign spirits. I’d had enough”

We all owe a huge thanks to Ralph’s sister, it seems! Read the full report here.

4. Harry Potter Young Adult Cast Round Up

In a series of “round ups” we have been summarising the many movies, plays and other projects associated with Harry Potter alumni. The YA cast from Potter includes the trio and J.K. Rowling’s ‘Big Six’, so it’s unsurprising that they’re on all sorts of exciting endeavours!

Aside from being UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and leader of a feminist book club, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) is – as we know – an amazing actress. She’s currently in cinemas starring as ‘Lena’ in The Colony – a thriller based around the cult Colonia Dignidad.

She recently interviewed The Circle co-star Tom Hanks on feminism and the movie industry – the movie is based on Dave Egger’s book, and is set for initial release this year.

Emma is also set to portray the iconic leading lady Belle in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast in 2017. Even ‘the original Belle’, Paige O’Hara, is excited to see her take over the role!

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) has recently appeared in is currently in cinemas as a villain in Now You See Me 2, and has just started in his theatre role in Privacy, which features Edward Snowden.

A new trailer and poster for Dan’s upcoming spy-thriller Imperium have recently been released, which you can view below – he will be portraying nervous undercover FBI agent / white supremacist, Nate Foster. The film is set to be released in August. Entertainment Weekly reports:

“The director says — worryingly — that the more he learned about the topic, the more timely and relevant it seemed. “We’re witnessing a surge in far-right groups all across Europe; in some cases they’re nearly winning national elections,” says Ragussis. “We have a stereotype of what it means to be a white supremacist, but when I began collaborating with Michael and doing my own research, I was stunned by the depth and the extent of this movement.”

Ragussis made every effort to authentically portray the experience of going undercover, as well as the modern-day white supremacist community. “There’s a large white supremacist rally in the middle of the film that we had spent months researching and planning,” the filmmaker explains. “There were so many details that had to be captured to try to make it real and authentic. I’d read about them, seen them, watched videos of them — but to actually see it come to life by our own hands was something I’ll never forget. Someone even called the news and erroneously reported a Klan rally in their neighborhood! So to that extent, I suppose we did our job.””

normal_imperium

Dan will also star in Jungle – a psychological thriller based around the story of Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir of his trip to the Amazon, which was included in The Discovery Channel’s I Shouldn’t Be Alive.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) is set to star in Sick Note with Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), after his recent performance in Moonwalkers with Fantastic Beasts actor Ron Perlman

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) has been cast as a series regular in CW’s The Flash. He will be portraying Julian Dorne – a Central City Police Department crime scene investigator. Read more here.

Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) recently wrote, produced and directed short movie Medusa’s Ankles with Potter co-star Jason Isaacs, which is set for release this year. She also raised money for Film Aid by making her own ‘Come Dream With Me’ t-shirts, which got the support of many Potter co-stars, and even J.K. Rowling herself!

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) is currently starring in  Me Before You alongside Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who).
He is also (almost) confirmed to be  co-starring as ‘Lenny’ in Terminal, along with Margot Robbie , Simon Pegg, Mike Myers and more. The film is being produced by Harry Potter producer, David Barron. Read more at Matthew lewis.com here.

Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas) will be returning to CB’s hit show How to Get Away With Murder for its third season on September 22nd.

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Katie Leung (Cho Chang) recently took the Ilvermorny sorting tests on Pottermore, both being sorted into the same house as J.K. Rowling: Thunderbird:

Sorted. #Ilvermorny

A photo posted by Katie Leung (@_katieleung_) on

Evanna also appeared at the premiere of David Yates’s new film The Legend of Tarzan:

Katie Leung is set to star in The Foreigner – a film based on 1992 novel The Chairman, and co-starring Pierce Brosnan and Jackie Chan.

Lastly, Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) has continued to make videos on her eponymous Youtube channel (here). She also appeared in Call the Midwife, and is set to star in Modern Life Is Rubbish, directed by Daniel Gill, who is known for being assistant Director on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

Hope you’re looking forward to all these upcoming features from our favourite YA Potter actors as much as we are! Be sure to take a look at the adult actor round ups, split into Part 1 (here) and Part 2 (here)!

5. Dan Radcliffe Says He Was ‘Genuinely Scared’ of Ralph Fiennes

In the latest episode of The Jess Cagle Interview, Daniel Radcliffe talks about working with hugely successful actors such as Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Ralph Fiennes in his role as Harry Potter, and reveals a few stories about the late Richard Harris, and comments on being intimidated by Ralph Fiennes!

Dan is told to describe the actors he worked with. He calls Emma Watson ‘smart‘, Rupert Grint ‘funny‘, Maggie Smith sharp as a knife, in a wonderful way … tough and quick witted’, Alan Rickman ‘generous‘ and Michael Gambon ‘out of control, funny, just mad in a great way, again’.

Richard Harris he says ‘The first thing that comes to mind is phoenix, I suppose – there was this one moment where Fawkes, the animatronic phoenix in the second film … Richard thought it was a real bird’

Dan says of Richard Harris’ death:

‘I remember it was devastating, it was so sad … I’d never known a person who had died before so it was crazy. I feel like looking back it’s just one of those things where you just have to go “I am so lucky to have worked with him” – it’s an amazing thing to be able to say now … the films he made are going to be true parts of history, a lot of them, it’s going to be an incredible thing to be able to say that I worked with him.

I’ve spent some time with his granddaughter, Ella, who’s also a wonderful person- his whole family was incredibly sweet to me … I was involved a little bit in a memorial service for him and they were just incredibly kind and warm”

Dan describes Helena Bonham-Carter as ‘nuts, and fabulous … I love her

He then calls Ralph Fiennes ‘genuinely intimidating’:

‘I remember when I was 15 doing scenes with Ralph for the first time. He was even scarier than Alan was at first … Alan was super intimidating to start off with as well, but then you get into it, but Ralph genuinely scared me for a few years.’

Dan then imagines working with Ralph on a comedy in the future, and says it was ‘a hell of a learning experience’ to have worked with him.

6. Daniel Radcliffe Joined by Edward Snowden in New Play ‘Privacy’

Public previews for Daniel Radcliffe’s new off-Broadway show, Privacy, start tomorrow at Newman Theater, and to add even more interest to an already unique production, Radcliffe will participate in a one-minute “conversation” with Edward Snowden during the play. Snowden’s contributions to the play will be prerecorded video while Radcliffe performs his part live for the theater audience.

This unusual aspect was not part of Privacy when it first ran in London–despite repeated efforts by the show’s creators, James Graham and Josie Rourke, to reach Snowden–but last week, Snowden’s lawyer gave word that Snowden would participate.

The documentary-style play is inspired by the revelations of Edward Snowden and centers around the concepts of privacy and technology in the modern era. Snowden–a former NSA contractor–is accused by the Department of Justice of violating the Espionage Act due to his association with the WikiLeaks organization.

7. Daniel Radcliffe & What It Would Take For Him To Return To His Iconic Role

Radio Times writes that Daniel Radcliffe has not completely ruled out the possibility of returning to his iconic role as Harry Potter.

In light of the expansion of the wizarding world via Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Radio Times asked Radcliffe whether he would consider the possibility of playing Harry Potter as an adult, to which Radcliffe responded:

“It would depend on the script,” he said. “The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying, ‘No,’ for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”

Radcliffe definitely has his hands full at the moment, with the press of his new releases Now You See Me 2 and Swiss Army Man. He is also the star of Imperium, an upcoming thriller that is scheduled to be release on August 19, 2016 in limited release and through VOD. In 2017 Radcliffe can be seen in Greg McLean’s thriller Jungle which started production in April 2016 in Australia.

While we might not see Daniel back in the wizarding world for a good while, it is good to know he is still keeping that option open for the future.

Radcliffe tells that he met Trump while visiting New York City for the first time as an 11-year-old for an appearance on the Today Show. According to Radcliffe he was marched over to meet Trump and when the presumptive Republican presidential nominee asked how he was doing, Radcliffe told him that he was nervous about what to talk about in the show. Radcliffe states that Trump’s response was the following:

“You just tell them that you met Mr Trump!”

Radcliffe also talks about his new off-Broadway show Privacy, which is co-created and written by James Graham and Josie Rourke. The play uncovers what our technological choices reveal about who we are, what we want and who’s keeping track of it all. This provocative theatrical event will ask audiences to charge their phones, leave them ON during the performance and to embark on a fascinating dive online and into a new reality where we’re all connected…for better or worse.”

9. Daniel Radcliffe Talks About Playing Dead in “Swiss Army Man”

Daniel Radcliffe gives tips on playing dead in an interview with the New York Times. In Swiss Army Man Radcliffe plays Manny, a dead man who washes ashore on a deserted island inhabited by Hank (Paul Dano). Though Manny is very much dead, Hank uses his body in many different ways to make his life on the island a bit easier.

Radcliffe says:

“You just sort of have to use your imagination when you’re playing something that doesn’t exist… But that’s a good thing. As long as you’re giving the directors what they want, there’s no really wrong answer.”

Radcliffe’s tips for playing a dead guy include “Find your voice”, “Keep your face really still” and “Embrace your postlife superpowers”. He also points out that it was important to know when to use stunt corpses while talking about a scene where a raccoon attacks Manny and starts scratching the eyes of the corpse.

Swiss Army Man is written and directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. It premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival in January 2016 and is set for limited US release on June 24, 2016 by A24.

10. Now You See Me 2 With Daniel Radcliffe – Now In Theaters!

With the first screenings beginning last night, Now You See Me 2 is now in theaters!

Daniel Radcliffe’s face graces our the big screen as he appears in the movie as Walter Mabry, a spoiled billionaire who kidnaps the Horseman (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Lizzy Caplan) and tricks then into committing a heist. The Horseman, however, have other plans. They come up with an elaborate stunt to expose Walter Mabry and clear their names.

Coming from a lifetime in the Harry Potter world, you’d think Daniel Radcliffe would know quite a bit about magic. Well, he reveals, in this USA Today article, that he isn’t as good as Harry was with magic tricks.

“The one thing I can kind of do is the bit I screw up in the first scene,” says Radcliffe, 26, flicking an imaginary card from one hand to the other. “I can actually do that, but then the one time I missed, I was like, ‘Ah, that’s definitely going to be the (take) they use.’ Failure is always funnier than success, particularly when it comes to this character.”

Daniel tells that to prepare to play a smart yet bratty young billionaire, he looked to his private school classmates as inspiration. He clarifies that, while a lot of good, perfectly nice people come out of private schools, occasionally there will be those who have a false sense of entitlement which causes them to be quite arrogant. “I saw him as a product of that environment,” says Daniel.

Walter (Daniel Radcliffe, center), has dastardly plans

Playing Walter Mabry in this illusion themed sequel to the 2013 surprise hit gave Daniel Radcliffe a chance to not on play the villain for the first time but also to work with a line-up of A-list actors. Being able to work with Michael Caine was particularly gratifying for Daniel. “A long-held personal goal of mine,” Daniel says of Caine, who plays Walter’s father in the film. “Growing up in England, you hear Michael talked about so much, with such reverence. Knowing that I’d have significant scenes with him was amazing.”

See more about the film here. Be sure to catch the film in theaters everywhere and see the trailer below!

11. Dan Radcliffe Talks about the Strange Roles He has Played

In a recent interview with GQ earlier this week, Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) talked about his journey from playing our favorite boy wizard, to playing the role of a farting corpse in his new film, Swiss Army Man. Radcliffe has played a diverse set of roles, and Now You See Me Two has him playing a muggle who is bad at magic tricks (rather than a boy wizard who is better than average at magic, but no Hermione).

Radcliffe is a busy man and already back to filming another movie. GQ reports:

GQ: Why are you in Colombia right now?
Radcliffe: I’m filming uh, a film, which is based on a true story about a guy who got lost in the Amazon. It’s sort of like The Revenant, but humid.

As a famous person, you’re choosing lots of parts these days that involve solitude and getting away from civilization.
The group of people I’m out with is [f-ing] awesome, so I’m having a really good time. This is an incredibly fun job, and it’s very rare as an actor that you feel like you’re earning your money, where you actually go home feeling physically like you’ve worked a really good day. We were filming by a river last week, and the river rose ten meters overnight, so three of our sets got washed away. It’s not normal making a movie like we are, out in a [f-ing] jungle.

Do you have lots of bugs and [stuff] eating you out there?
There are bugs eating us, yes. But we were making this film about this guy who went into the jungle and struggled desperately to survive for three weeks. I’m not in any way a method actor, but if I’m playing a guy who’s starving and I’m going home at night and tucking into a [f-ing] pizza, I’m making it much harder for myself to do my job.

But you’re at a place where you don’t really have to take on rough s–t like making movies in jungles if you don’t want to. So why do it?
I get a lot of credit that I don’t deserve—people notice that I pick very different things more than they do with other actors, because I played one part for so long. Paul Dano (Radcliffe’s co-star in Swiss Army Man)…his career is [f-ing] amazingly varied, and everybody I know wants the same thing, which is they want as diverse a career as possible.

Like, it’s my total ambition at some point in my life to be in some massive [****y] big disaster movie. But I’m in an amazing position, which is that I have a certain amount of financial security and that allows me to do things that make me happy, and things that will fulfill me and challenge me, with people I’ll have a good time with. You hear horror stories about actors all the time, and I’ve worked with so few of them compared to the amount of stories I’ve heard. I’ve been incredibly lucky, and I do believe life is too short to work with arseholes.

I just saw Now You See Me 2 (in theaters June 10), and in it you’re a rich young tech guru who’s a spoiled dick. I think you do derive extra joy in playing a d**K on screen specifically because you aren’t one.
Totally. You’re absolutely right. Ricky Gervais talked to me about doingExtras for the first time. I was like, yes, please—finally, a chance to show that I have a [f-ing] sense of humor about all this. Because you are confronted very regularly with the expectation that A) you’re gonna be a d**k, B) you’re gonna fail, and C) “Do you really deserve this?”

How’s fame been treating you? Has your fame settled down sincePotter?
I think so. It took me a few years to work out my priorities. Now I pick things that I think will make me the most happy, and not try to think, “What’s gonna be the most successful thing I can do?” You can be despondent about the fact that you’re never gonna be in something that big again, but that’s [f-ing] idiotic. I’ve been in the most successful thing I ever will be in, and to me it’s a huge relief. Because you just go, “Okay, that’s literally never gonna happen again.”

Would you do a Star Wars movie if you were asked?
I’d love to. I would jump at the chance. I have absolutely no tolerance for people who are not [f-ing] delighted to be on set every day, because you should be.

What made you want to play a farting corpse [in Swiss Army Man]?
The farting didn’t even enter my head as being a weird thing. I was really quite taken aback when we sound mastered it and it caused such a weird reaction in some people. [Many people at Sundance walked out of the initial screening, possibly because one of the opening scenes involves Paul Dano riding Radcliffe’s dead body like a jet ski, only powered by farts.] I can understand it being not for everyone, but controversial? It’s not like we’re making a massive racist remark. It was very strange to me but also kind of entertaining.

Were you upset by the negative reaction?
I remember there was one tweet—I’m not on Twitter. I don’t get involved. But I did get sucked in over that period, and there was one tweet that did get under my skin, because it was a guy that was all p–sed off. He hashtagged one of his tweets #makebettermovies, which I was just like, f-ing—it’s from a man who’s never made a movie! The s—ttiest film you’ve ever seen has had such f-ing hard work put into it! You can’t say s**t like that.

For Swiss Army Man, did they also make you fart and groan on cue? Or did they add all the farts in post-production?
I definitely can’t fart on cue. That is beyond me. They were all done later. The directors basically announced if anyone wanted to just go over to the sound recordist, Steve, and fart, he would record it and they would try and put it in the movie.

Could you see yourself not acting at some point? Taking a permanent break?
Not really. I don’t think I could ever enjoy that if I wasn’t in some way going back to contributing to a film in some way.
My daughter wanted me to ask you why you wanted to be an actor.
Because it was so much better than being at school!

12. Dan Radcliffe on Seeing ‘Cursed Child’ and Starring in ‘Now You See Me 2′

Inquirer.net recently sat down to talk to Daniel Radcliffe about Cursed Child, magic and his acting career thus far. Dan recently starred in Swiss Army Man and Victor Frankenstein, and will soon be appearing as Walter Mabry in Now You See Me 2.

Mabry is a wealthy, magical entrepreneur who has captured the Horsemen (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Lizzy Caplan) – you can catch glimpses of his character in the movie’s trailer (below).

On whether or not he’ll be likely to see Cursed Child:

“I don’t know if I would. Because I feel like me going to see that show, it might become more about the fact that I was there seeing that show that night than anything else.”

At which point the Inquirer hinted to him that he might just be able to sneak into the show, asking if he was keeping up with the show:

“Do you really think that’s possible (for me to sneak in) (laughs)? No, I haven’t been keeping tabs. But I know Jamie Parker is playing me (Harry), which I’m very happy about, because he’s a great actor.”

Dan also said that he doesn’t see Harry Potter co-star Rupert Grint very much anymore (he’s working on his own TV comedy at the moment!), but did say that he saw him “at the beginning of the year, or the end of last year”.

On working with Michael Caine:

“Growing up in England… he is someone that you grow up being aware of as an institution. He’s everything that I want to be when I grow up as an actor.

When I first started working on “Potter,” there were crew members who have known Michael and had worked with him on various projects. To listen to them talk about Michael and the respect that they have for him, it made me, as a young actor, go, “God, I want to do that.”

When you work with him, he is utterly professional and also really good fun. He enjoys his job so much. I do love my job and I am thinking, if you aren’t having fun at work, you shouldn’t be there.

But watching Michael—I guess he is in his 80s by now—act at four o’clock in the morning in cold and dark England and still be there…

So many other actors would have been complaining and moaning. Michael is unflappable, and he’s still having a good time, telling stories, joking and laughing. He knows everyone’s name. It was a pleasure to be around him, to watch him work and to work with him. It was extraordinary.

Whenever I need a bit of a boost, I just go on Michael Caine’s IMDb page.”

On Swiss Army Man and its many complexities:

“I am not staying away from [romantic-comedy] roles. I think it’s more that it’s actually a lot harder to write something happy than it is to write something dark. There’s a lot of different versions of darkness that are very interesting. It’s harder to make happiness interesting onscreen for whatever reason.

“Swiss Army Man” sounds like a dark character because I’m playing a dead guy. The film does have its dark moments, but it’s got a lot of levity and joy. For me, that film is about joy. It isn’t a traditional rom-com, but it’s definitely got some lightness to it.”

Tickets are now available for purchase for the off-Broadway production of Privacy, starring Daniel Radcliffe. As announced last month, Radcliffe is set to take on the role of “The Writer” in the play, which is inspired by the revelations of Edward Snowden and explores the concept of privacy in the digital age.

This unusual play actually encourages its audience to stay connected during the performance:

“Privacy explores our complicated relationship with technology and data through the funny and heart-breaking travails of a lonely guy (Radcliffe), who arrives in the city to figure out how to like, tag, and share his life without giving it all away. The play uncovers what our technological choices reveal about who we are, what we want and who’s keeping track of it all. 14. Dan Radcliffe’s Acting is “Phenomenal” in ‘Now You See Me 2′, and New Poster Released!

Dan Radcliffe may not have been at this interview with MTV, but that didn’t stop Now You See Me 2 co-stars Jesse Eisenberg & Dave Franco talking about his role in Harry Potter, after discussing the many intricacies of the film’s title!

After being asked how many Potter films there were, Jesse Eisenberg replies ‘There were several’, and clarifies that he didn’t grow up with the books or films as many did, but that he was ‘enamoured’ with Dan’s acting. Eisenberg also says that Dan will be playing a villain in this movie, and is ‘phenomenal’ as his character, predicting that audiences who are fans of his acting in Potter will be pleasantly surprised with this refreshing reminder of his great talent (along with his other great films, of course!).

Dave Franco also comments, saying that Dan is a hard worker, always striving to achieve his best performance. Franco tells us that Dan nailed a 5 page monologue in every take, admiring how ‘professional’ Dan is, and echoing Eisenberg’s comments on the change in his acting in this film

Watch the interview below:

Mark Ruffalo also tweeted a new poster for the film, saying that they’ve channelled ‘Where’s Waldo’ for this one – Dan is seen above Ruffalo (centre):

15. Daniel Radcliffe in ‘Privacy’ at the Public

Daniel Radcliffe, who has been in the spotlight since before Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone debuted, is set to star in the Public Theater‘s production of the play Privacy, Variety announced this morning.

Is the irony of such a popular entertainment icon featuring in a play called “privacy” in the “public” theater intentional?  Perhaps.  The tagline for the play reads,

Who are you? Are you the websites you visit, the music you download, the photos you post? Do you measure your value by your followers and your likes? Who’s listening to you? And whom are you watching back..?

According to Playbill, Daniel Radcliffe will play “The Writer,” a young man learning to balance sharing his life on the internet with keeping some things to himself.  (Followers of Radcliffe will know that he takes this pretty seriously in his own life.  Dan’s not very active on social media, only updating his pages occasionally.)  As part of the production, audience members are asked to keep their phones ON so that they can participate in the action.

The Public Theater says that Privacy, written by playwright Edward Graham, is based on leaks from Edward Snowden and interviews with British government officials and reporters.  It is directed by Josie Roarke and produced in association with the original producing theater, Donmar Warehouse in London.  Other featured actors include De’Adre Aziza, Raffi Barsoumian, Michael Countryman, Rachel Dratch, and Reg Rogers.

Privacy will run at the Public Theater in New York July 5-August 7.  Tickets for theater members go on sale soon, with single performance tickets available May 24.

16. Round Up: Dan’s New Movies

Daniel Radcliffe has been keeping pretty busy in the film industry. He has released quite a few films since wrapping up Harry Potter–some of them more…odd…than others. Dan’s two latest movies cap the ends of that spectrum.

The Now You See Me sequel follows it’s successful predecessor in the main stream, generally well-accepted action-thriller genre. Dan’s role in the independent film, Swiss Army Man, which had many walk-outs at it’s Sundance Film Fest premiere, draws an entirely different crowds–a smaller, more select group of people who may appreciate the film.

Last week a new trailer and movie poster surfaced for Swiss Army Man. Around the same time, Entertainment Weekly to talked to the makers of Now You See Me 2 about Dan’s squib-worthy magic in the film.

E.W. calls Dan’s character in Now You See Me 2 the “anti-Harry Potter.” The creators agree. Though, they were thoroughly impressed with Dan’s work ethic–which must have rubbed off on him from all those years of working with Emma Watson as Hermione. Entertainment Weekly reports:

Radcliffe certainly seems to be having some fun with his public persona. His character, a mysterious tech-mogul named Walter, wears his lackluster magic talent as a core feature on his personality.

“Walter definitely plays the anti-magician, who maybe used to love magic, but he’s horrible at it,” director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) says. “He’s been burnt by it, so he’s turned to science. Science is the real magic to him. He basically takes these Horsemen [Eisenberg, Harrelson, Franco, Caplan] on a ride. He now owns the Horsemen in a way that they have to escape his magic trick.”

Though his card work might be laughable, when it came time to show up to set as Walter, Radcliffe wasn’t messing around. Typically a table read is a very literally named rehearsal — the cast sits around a table and reads the script aloud — but Radcliffe showed up with his lines already memorized.

“That’s how precise and how far ahead he works on all of this stuff,” Chu says. “He owned it.”

17. Daniel Radcliffe’s Throwback Photo With Matthew Lewis

Last Friday, Dan Radcliffe posted an adorable photo to Google+ of the day David Heyman took him, Matthew Lewis and Rupert Grint to a WWF match, two days before Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone started filming.

The photo only included Matt and Dan, but Dan left a lovely message supporting his fellow actor’s role in Happy Valley in the caption:

“Judging by the sign behind us I think William Regal was making his entrance! And judging by our faces we weren’t quite brave enough to boo him. It was very good night! Go watch the brilliant Mr. Lewis in season 2 of Happy Valley on Netflix!  Happy Friday everyone! – Dan”

19. “Now You See Me 2″ Character Posters: Dan Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe plays a Muggle who is trying to be a magician…but he’s very bad at it–like Arthur Weasley bad at it. Or at least that’s what it looks like as Dan takes on the best illusionists, The Four Horsemen, in Now You See Me 2. Little of his character was revealed with the first movie trailer released last year. Earlier today, Lionsgate released 9 character promotional posters, including one of Dan.

EW posted two of the photos, and wrote:

For a movie about idealistic magicians robbing from the rich to give to the poor, Now You See Me took home a surprising amount of bank at the box office. The star-studded action caper grossed more than $350 million around the world, and the sequel is aiming to prove that thrilled audiences are eager to fall for the same trick twice.

Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco are back, with Lizzy Caplan rounding out the Four Horsemen (replacing Isla Fisher). This time, they’re challenged to perform some impossible feats in order to clear their names after they get tangled with a shady tech prodigy named Walter Mabry, (who may have some connection to a character from the first film), portrayed by movies’ and literature’s most famous wizard.

EW was only given two of the nine exclusive character posters, including Dan’s. The others can be seen at PEOPLE.com and InStyle.com.

20. Daniel Radcliffe to star in psychological thriller, ‘Jungle’

Dan Radcliffe certainly has a busy schedule with his upcoming roles in Imperium and Now You See Me: The Second Act, and he is now set to star in Jungle a thriller based on Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir of his trip to the Amazon.

A young adventurer who trekked into the Amazon with two friends and a guide, Ghinsberg’s expedition soon took a dangerous and deadly turn. The Discovery Channel included Ghinsberg’s story in a docudrama series: I Shouldn’t Be Alive.

The psychological thriller is set to be directed by Greg McLean (Wolf Creek), and Justin Monjo is in charge of the script. Dana Lustig, Gary Hamilton and Mike Gabrawy will co-produce alongside director McLean, with Todd Fellman as executive producer.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

Screen Australia and Screen Queensland have supported development and invested in the project, which is eyeing a shoot later in 2016 in Australia, among other locations.

“We’re extremely excited about Daniel Radcliffe joining the cast of Jungle,” says Gary Hamilton, managing director of Arclight Films. “He has an enthusiastic global fan base, a wide range as an actor as evident by his diversity of roles and is known for picking out unique and interesting projects.”

Dan is has favoured darker genres after his involvement in the Potter films. The Woman in Black, Kill Your Darlings, Horns and Victor Frankenstein all show Radcliffe’s talent for picking diverse characters to portray, and his latest appearance in Swiss Army Man (which received mixed reviews) depicts his venturing into more ‘unique’ independent films.

His upcoming appearances in Imperium and Now You See Me: The Second Act will add to his diverse array of roles, and with any luck, Jungle will continue to depict his talent!

Yesterday afternoon, Indi-Dramedy and reported ‘musical’ Swiss Army Man made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Daniel Radcliffe appears in the film as a dead body washed ashore a desert island with only one inhabitant: Paul Dano (portraying ‘Hank’).

As summary from Indie Wire is as follows:

But one day everything changes when a dead body washes ashore, and he soon realizes it may be his last opportunity to escape certain death. After befriending the corpse and gradually discovering his special powers, the duo go on an epic adventure to bring Hank back to the woman of his dreams.

23. Daniel Radcliffe talks Fame in Italy’s Vanity Fair

Daniel Radcliffe had the opportunity to sit for an interview with Italy’s Vanity Fair. The interview was a part of his extensive promotional campaign for his new movie, Victor Frankenstein. In Italy, the movie will be titled Victor – The Secret History of Dr. Frankenstein, and coming to Italy in April.

The article opens with Dan discussing the affects of his fame. With fame, he could name the precise moment his childhood ended and his adult life began. He had to grow up young. Roughly translating from Italian used in the article, Dan said:

“The first time I went to Japan to promote Harry Potter I was 11 and waiting for me at the airport, I found something like five thousand people “he says with his fast-talking, sitting in a hotel suite in London. “There were girls screaming my name, I touched it by mistake and fainted. For me, so small, it was an amazing thing, insane. At that moment I realized that my life had changed, and what it meant “to be famous. ‘”

24. Daniel Radcliffe says he loves to film fight scenes

According to The Mirror, Radcliffe is “really good” at falling over and acting as though he is being attacked:

“If I joined the circus, undoubtedly I’d be the fall guy in the clown routine,” he said. “I’m really good at falling over and taking hits and, perversely, I enjoy it.”

He reportedly said that being the victim of the punches (rather than the attacker) is his “speciality”:

“Weirdly I haven’t had to deliver many punches throughout my career so I’m very good at being beaten and getting hit. That’s my speciality.”

The Mirror also reports that Dan found the action scenes in Victor Frankenstein easier to shoot than the “emotional” scenes:

“The final emotional scenes of the film with Igor and Victor were more challenging. You put pressure on yourself and think, ‘This has to go right’. Because if you don’t nail this part, none of the action matters.”

Dan’s is currently working on his portrayal of a young, undercover FBI agent in Imperium, an FBI thriller – maybe we’ll get to see more of his fight-scene specialty moves!

The ‘Indie-Dramedy’ Swiss Army Man – Radcliffe’s next appearance – premieres at the Sundance Film Festival between January 21-31st.
