I mean the snow was already falling here in Winthrop, WA... but last night it finally FELL!!! Nothing too crazy just yet, but the skiing was grand this afternoon and we'll be gliding for weeks to come! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Harts Pass Comics!
The constituent at Harts Pass is absolutely sure it will NEVER be happy with the President-elect. So apologies in advance if you tire of our thinly veiled attempts at political commentary. There will also be sarcasm... and at times wolverine-centric comical rage. GRRR!
Snow job: (noun)
definition - a strong effort to make someone believe something by saying things that are not true or sincere.
For the last few weeks I've been slowly but surely making progress on a mural for the newest incarnation of our local bookstore -- congrats @trailsendbooks :) Its BIG, so you can't even see the life-sized polar bear and penguin over in the "arctic annex" of this photo, but its also bright and colorful and hopefully a nice complement to the kid's section in the great new space - hooray! Washington authors and illustrators be sure to reach out to Trails End to sign stock or schedule a reading when you find yourself headed to Winthrop. Summer and winter are the busier season's for sure, but they are really hoping to parlay the new space into bigger and better author events and excellent bookstore activities all year 'round. Happy holidays!
Another seasonal poem from the good folks at Harts Pass Comics. Enjoy!
"Hang Time" A Thanksgiving poem!
Perhaps a lot of similar sentiments this past week... but wolverines DON'T actually hibernate, so stay vigilant and keep the checks and balances of our government accountable!
On Tuesday morning when this was finished, I was very much looking forward to the end of the election AND the first snow of winter. I am shocked for sure at the ultimate choice of the American electorate... so I hope the snow flies fast and deep!
I'm pretty ready for the recent political "process" to conclude. That being said, the wolverines and I are absolutely voting for Hillary Clinton, and the grumpy weasel from the other side is in no way shape or form prepared to lead this country in any sensible way.
Happy almost Halloween! This nightmarishly embarrassing election season is almost over... PLEASE get out and VOTE!
More content for National Wildlife Refuge Week!
It goes without saying what inspired this strip-- but I do feel pretty bad about ascribing any such attitude or characteristic to those of the animal persuasion...
Paid for by GRRR! The committee to elect a Gracious, Reflective, Reasonable, & Responsible creature to higher office!
Context is everything. Sort the facts. Reduce the spin. Don't believe the hype!
Another moment in the "True History of Grit!" -- In this case, from Sept. 7th, 1876, when the good citizens of Northfield, MN turned back the outlaw Jesse James. The foiled bank robbery and subsequent pursuit thusly resulted in the death and capture of multiple members of the James Unger Gang. Dedicated as well to the
Defeat of Jesse James Day's festivities and to the annual kick-off to each of my years at Carleton College :)
A bit of "back to school" juxtaposition... or some sort of color commentary on the size of modern day backpacks. The choice is yours :)
A fitting ode - I hope - to the final week before starting school!
Still playing catch-up here from our time away from computers and such: While biking through the Idaho panhandle with a bike full of gear, you begin to truly appreciate the wonder of the bicycle and its unique and fortuitous mechanical advantage :)
On this closing weekend of the Summer Olympics, I FINALLY get around to posting my strip from 8.10.16! A little here and there and everywhere of late with the last few weeks of summer break. Back on a regular schedule as we head into fall. Enjoy!
Imagination is a powerful inspiration!
More wolverine news from down in California!
Down in Wenatchee today teaching a comics workshop in summer school! Drew last week's comic on the iPad Pro enroute back home from Boston. Not my usual routine (I normally ink with a brush and color in Photoshop) but it worked out pretty slick AND you can watch it happen!
Oh, and LATER, GATOR! debuts tomorrow :) Come say 'hi' to the little Gator guy at my hometown book release party: Saturday, July 23rd. 2pm at Trail's End Bookstore
I usually ink my comics on paper and then color them in Photoshop with the wacom. In order to keep a lighter load for the International Literacy Association conference in Boston last weekend I left the computer at home and did this week's strip on an iPad Pro with the Procreate app -- and I'm pretty pleased with the result! Not only that, but that app records the entire process so you can basically watch me brainstorm :) NOT a pretty process, so don't expect a video link every week!
Still reveling in the exploratory freedoms of summer :) Not quite the same luxury for adults as it generally might be for kids, but good to remember that even away from "work" we can still be soaking' things in!
