1. Blogging Frequency and Lead Generation through Inbound Traffic

A new study shows evidence that there is a correlation between lead generation (through inbound traffic) and blogging frequency. I’ve written about this before, that blogging on a regular basis and as often as you can matters for at least three reasons: 1. Search engines love fresh content. If you’re offering content that is valuable to your audience, it will boost your search rankings. 2.

2. Content Marketing- 5 Powerful Traffic-Generating Strategies

The greatest way to drive traffic to your website is through content marketing. If you’re not sure what content marketing is, it’s simply a marketing strategy using content to create inbound traffic to you and your website. It’s also the strategy of using effective copywriting techniques to motivate your readers to take a desirable action. Content marketing includes copywriting, SEO writing,

3. Social Media Marketing - Oh that Facebook (your visibility is diminishing even more)

For a while now I’ve found it a bit pointless to focus on Facebook as part of my social media marketing efforts. It’s been a while since the reigning king of the social media world reduced the visibility results of your postings. Now, they have a new algorithm reducing your posts’ visibility to around 2% of your fanbase, more likely less. I don’t get it. Okay, well maybe I do. They want you

6. Marketin and Promotion: Are They the Same Process?

Merriman-Webster.com notes that both the words, marketing and promotion (the terms, or the present day meaning), came into existence around the 15th and 16th centuries. Interestingly, although both marketing and promotion seem to be used in place of each other, and marketing is regularly used in place of promotion, they are separate processes. Well to be more clear, promotion is a process under the marketing umbrella.

Marketing, according to BusinessDictionary.com:

Management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer. As a philosophy, it is based on thinking about the business in terms of customer needs and their satisfaction. As a practice, it consists in coordination of four elements called 4P's: (1) identification, selection, and development of a product, (2) determination of its price, (3) selection of a distribution channel to reach the customer’s place, and (4) development and implementation of a promotional strategy.

So, marketing is taking your product from the idea to the sale. While you may not think that marketing is necessary in the idea stage of a product, think again. If you don’t produce a product that your target market will be interested in, you most probably will not get to the “sale’ stage. This means the product will need to be saleable in every aspect, from the product itself, or in a writer’s field, its content, to the package, price, and distribution. All this takes marketing research.

Promotion on the other hand is the marketing process of bringing your product or service to the attention of your target market. Promotion encompasses the needed strategies for actually selling your product. Promotion is done through publicity and advertising – in essence, through visibility.

Visibility can be done using online social networking, taking advantage of services/sites such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Digg. It can also be accomplished through traditional promotional techniques, such as ads, business cards, and flyers, as well as through inbound (organic) promotional strategies: providing valuable blog and article content, reports, e-books, and newsletters.

Organic promotional strategies are those that bring visibility to your product/service through processes mentioned above such as blog and article content. This type of promotion may take a bit of time to establish, and involves work, but its long-term benefits will be worth the time and effort. This type of promotion creates trust and reliability. You will develop a relationship with the potential customer/reader. She will come to value the information you provide, and look forward to it.

Digital-Web.com defines organic traffic as:

Organic traffic, as the name implies, is traffic that comes to your Web site naturally and without being driven there by a specific marketing campaign. In essence, Web site visitors are there because they found the site and thought it had something they wanted. And like anything organic, organic traffic isn’t there instantly; it takes time and nurturing to grow into something healthy and with longevity.

7. Benefits of Creating an eBook

You know . . . an easy way to turn your knowledge into possible income is to create a booklet or e-book. And, with an e-book, if you use sources such as Lulu.com and Smashwords.com, it won’t cost a penny. It’s as easy as putting the pieces of a puzzle together.

But, on the flip side, if you’re thinking of doing B2B (business to business) work, businesses would prefer a booklet to hand out to prospects, clients, or employees.

While booklets have their place, today, I’m going to address e-books because they're such an amazing product and they can be absolutely FREE to create! What else can you create for FREE and SELL for whatever you think it is worth? The only cost is your time and some effort.

All you need to do is open a Word document and start typing away. Get all that expert knowledge you’ve accumulated over the year/s and create your content. Just be sure that your content will actually be of value to your readers and reliable.

Pretty easy so far, right?

Now that your content is set, you can add pictures. If you can believe it, this is free also! Just use clip art or visit sites such as Freepixels.com, or MorgueFile.com. Another easy way to do this is to take your own pictures. Download them onto your computer and then upload them into your e-book. If you have a program such as Photoshop Elements you can create all types of variations of one simple photo.

That’s it! Now, it’s time to take your Word doc and upload it to Lulu.com, or other source. You can also use a pdf creator and change your word doc into a pdf file—you have an e-book!
Is that cool!

So, what can you do with that e-book you created . . . well, just about anything!
You can sell it on your site through Paypal or Google checkout, or use a shopping cart service; you can sell it through Lulu or Smashwords; you can offer it as a free gift to entice visitors to sign up for your newsletter. If you’re giving it away as a free gift to subscribers to your site, you can get even more bang for your effort by making it reprint allowable. This is a great way to increase your visibility, create backlinks, and bring traffic back to your site. You can also offer it as a combo with other works you have for sale. And, you will be establishing and promoting your expertise . . . you get the idea.

What? You’re not sure if you can do it on your own? That’s okay, don’t fret.
If you’re a little hesitant about undertaking this task, there is help available at here at DVK Writing 4 U. Whether you’re an author looking for exposure and promotion, or you want to offer a free gift on your site, or want to earn some money with it . . . if you’re a business looking to increase traffic and visibility and sales . . . contact us today.

In fact, through May 31st, 2010, DKV Writing 4 U is having a SPECIAL:
5 page e-book, on a topic you choose, for $25.00
10 page e-book, on a topic you choose, for $50.00

8. Your Article's Been Hijacked - What Do You Do?

Ah, another dilemma. We writers spend a great deal of time writing. We put thought and care and research into articles, books, e-books...you get the idea. Well, what do you do if you find a site is using an article you've written--and published on your own sites and in the article directories--without providing your name as author? Do you trust any information on that site? Do you wonder if all or most of the articles posted there are from other writers who are also victims of article swiping?

It's funny, I usually don't put a google search on the titles of my articles, but this one, for whatever reason, I did. So, when google picked it up and notified me, I checked it out. I searched the site to see if my name was pushed off to the side, stuck in a corner, written with invisible ink, or something, but NOPE - it was nowhere in sight.

Now, ordinarily, I, and I'm sure most of us writers, love when someone finds our article of value and wants to reprint it. I do this with other writers occasionally and it works out great. I provide useful content for my readers and the author of the article gets increased visibility--a win-win situation.

But, there is a rule to follow: Always give the rightful author due credit. I'm pretty sure if you don't it's plagiarism.

So, I'm asking the question: What should you do if your article is hijacked? I'd really appreciate your opinions!

9. Three Article and Blog Marketing Tips

I think many of us writers/authors are using article marketing to bring traffic back to our sites. I've been doing it for a while and as with many things in life, I am still learning.

For those of you who may not be aware of the benefits of article marketing, it is a useful tool to create and increase your visibility online. And, it's simple to do. Just write informational or entertaining articles and submit them to ezines such as Ezine Articles, Associated Content, Suite101, and Helium.

Within these articles (at the end) you are usually allowed to include a resource box which is information about you with a link back to your site. Check the ezine site's guidelines to ensure acceptance of your article.

Now, here are the three article and blog marketing tips:

1. When including your bio/promo/resourcebox at the end of your article for the ezine, be sure to link to a specific page on your website (one that relates to your article or the offer you are promoting). Do Not link to your home page.

Example: If your article is about the benefits of having your manuscript professionally edited, link back to a post on your site relating to editing, or if you have services for hire, link to your editing services page.

2. Within the content of your blog, link to one of your related articles or posts, or both.

Example: If your blog post is about writing for children, link to another of your posts about this topic or one of your ezine articles related to it.

3. Make sure your site is focused.

Example: If you are promoting a writing services site, it's not the wisest marketing strategy to include How To Write, or Become a Better Writer offers on that site.

Okay, #3 is more of a website tip, but your blog posts and articles are tools to bring traffic back to your site so make it work for you.

Bottom line: BE FOCUSED and make each post or article work for you in more ways than one!

I realize there may be some of you who might have questions, just ask by commenting and I'll be happy to answer.

Until next time,

Karen

11. Writing for Free – A Means to an End

I have come to the conclusion that the most time consuming aspect of writing is keeping up with all the useful information that is made available through everywhere from business sites to personal blogs. It seems everyone is offering free information. I have already spent entire days just surfing through sites and reaming ideas, strategies, tips, and so on. It really is endless.

In the writing world everyone tries to and actually needs to keep their work and names visible. Providing information is a primary means of accomplishing this. New blogs are popping up everyday with free tips and advice. The blog has become a great vehicle to bring you to the reader. It is an excellent way to show readers what you have to offer. The information you provide will hopefully not only draw readers, but keep them coming back for more. Using my own blog as an example, I found that if I don’t offer beneficial information along with the hosting blogs I do, I lose followers.

Another vehicle to bring you to the reader is the free online magazines. This is where you can write and have your articles published – you don’t get paid, but you do get published. While it does not have the credibility of paying markets, it is a great way to hone your craft and be visible.

One more source of visibility is writing guest blogs or articles for other blogs or sites. Often the writers are looking for new and fresh content for their sites or newsletters. If the offer arises take advantage of it, or ask bloggers if they would be interested in a guest blog from you.

Every marketing teleseminar and workshop I have been to encourages writers to offer information through blogs or free online magazines. According to marketing experts the name of the game is visibility. Free information draws readers. I can confirm that this is true because I make it a point to attend all the free teleseminars and teleclasses I can. The businesses that offer this free information want to draw you there so they can sell you their services. This is understandable. It is a win-win situation; they acquire some new customers and you, whether you take advantage of their services or not, receive valuable information. But, to what extend should a writer offer their services for free?

While taking this path of visibility it’s important to remember that submitting to free ezines or guest blogging is not just a lack of financial gain, it’s the time loss incurred while preparing these articles and blogs. The best strategy is to start out offering free tips and articles until you can provide your own expert information and advice. It’s important to remember that this free information will draw readers and show them that your posts and articles are a source of useful data. Once you feel comfortable enough that the information you are providing is of substantial value you can offer it in the form of ebooks, newsletters, teleseminars or other means for a fee.

You should be aware that even when you reach this point, it’s still a good idea to publish articles in the free ezines for continued visibility and as a means of drawing new readers/customers to your sites and services. And, don’t forget that while you’re providing free information you can also be submitting articles to paying markets.
