First off Congrats on the job. Second off... you will get adjusted in time and even tho we do miss you we do understand. Just dont forget us. :)) oh and Annie is scheduled for her leg Surgery Sept 2nd, with a new vet we found by word of mouth & is wonderful. The Big Vet office in town wasnt helping us at all.I am just hoping all will be well.

So good to hear from you. I just sent you an email and up popped this post to answer most of my questions. It is difficult to adjust to someone elses idea of a routine. Ha... Best of luck. I know you can do it. I hate that you have a long commute. That is no doubt the worst part of the job.

Emma certainly is articulate. I love the angle of the sketch and the relative positions of Emma and her speech balloon. Your new workplace and colleagues sound great. But I know what you mean about the physical adjustment. Take care!

Oh my goodness, poor doggie adjustments. What a transistion for both of you to get used to. I am happy you are so happy at the new work place. And great they will let you nibble when you NEED to nibble. I sure understand about low blood sugar. A pocket full of almonds sometimes gets me through a day.

Not to worry about not visiting...it's understandable. But when you can it's most welcomed. ;-) Hugs from me.

First of all, congrats on your new position! And I'm delighted you like it. I'm inspired by you asking for what you want and hearing how you are adjusting.

Way to go! We can all learn from each other....

I keep trail mix and the like available for those blood sugar dips. Only way I could make it through the day.

Now you know whey I get up so early in the morning - so I can visit my friends!
You'll get better at the schedule, and from one who knows - it helps to start the day with protein (cottage cheese and the like) with a bit of fruit - the combo lasts longer than normal, and minimal Blood sugar drop. Good luck Lo - it's all good.

She's cute! I probably would have called her Spot! We have very tame squirrels here, too. I can practically walk right up to them while trying to shoo them away from the bird feeder. They simply don't mind me.
We have crows here at my house. In the late afternoon I can hear them cawing at each other. You have a shady view. Nice.

Love that white puff! With the pure white, do you think it is a genetic thing with the tail length? At any rate, she seems to be a very comfortable squirrel in front of the camera.
The ravens are wonderful, and even more so, all the trees because I am thinking SHADE....... :-)

i have always liked squirrels, possibly because so many people seem to not like them. she is sweet, i love it that you can identify here and have given her a name.

I think Short-T is related to my Stubby, but Stubby's tail should be white like that and she would look like a bunny. Doesn't it make you wonder what is going on in the world with all these aberrations in squirrels?

That is amazing that it has a white puff on the end of its tail as they dont have any white usually on their taisl. Love the crows in the trees. I love seeing the crows and the squirrels in my yard. maybe not 12, like we can get, of the gray things but a couple is nice to have. :))HAW

I'm not a squirrel fan but Short-T is very cute and probably rather bright for a squirrel. She probably feels safe around your house, despite the terrible Emma.

Lolo, I left Mississippi in large part because I so hated the heat and humidity. 36 years there, and I just hated it more every eight month long summer.

Snow, I honestly can't even imagine being in the Southeast in the summer. I spent a summer in Miami when I was 18. It didn't bother me even as I baked in the sun to get a tan. Now, forty years later I just have to have a little help from the A/C gods ;)

Hi Laurel. I've had similar things happen to me. The lost items do tend to surface though. The oddest thing though is a poem "I wrote" over 30 years ago. I add the quotation marks because I have absolutely no memory of ever writing it. The handwriting seems to be mine and the words are familiar but did I write it? I found it in a folder with several other things I wrote so I guess it must be so but oh, how frustrating to not be able to find the memory of its creation.

dang! I hate it when that happens...losing a gorilla that is. Can't say I've ever lost one though.

You made me a set of cards of him when we 'fostered' a gorilla from Africa, gosh that was 3 years ago...how I ADORE this face. hope you find him and real soon.

Zoos CAN be depressing....though there are several, i.e. Bronx, San Diego, where ALL animals have tons of room to roam....but sadly, they are few and far between.

The ATC's are so uplifting! (Especially that certain "Diva" hiding behind her shades!) As for Bliss.... she looks gorgeous and happy...

Well, my three bellowing babies have FEATHERS, so there is no hugging them, but they *DO* remind me frequently when they think they need treats. (spoiled ROTTEN, they are....I am well trained!)

Love penguins too! Last night I saw the new documentary about the pelican rescued and followed from the oil spill in the gulf. Your pelicans reminded me in your beautiful header painting!

Another fun (albeit hot) animal adventure! This made me smile - thanks!

So wonderful! Penguins are so funny! At our Academy of Sciences, they colour band them to keeo track of who is "married" to who... and sometimes....(gasp)..there are "affairs"....in fact, one of the Penguins has fallen in love with one of the caregivers....and follows him everywhere!

That red-headed bird is fantastic! I hope someone will identify it!

We were lucky to see them on the beach near Cape Town (i wonder if this is where Marianne saw them too?) we were so fasinated we stayed for hours, left, talked about them, decided to change our plans and went back to spend more time with the delightful african penguin!

oh they do have the sweetest faces! what surprised me the first time i saw one was it's size, their huge! well, maybe it was because a child was leading it, but they are really large animals. your pair is adorable!

I love those "Ships of the Desert"! Their faces are so expressive - and those feet..well, they enable them to glide through those desert dunes gracefully - rather like a ship!

During the gold rush, they actually brought camels here as pack animals. It turned out the idea didn't work so they turned them loose. There were sightings for years of the camels! Your photos reminded me of them.

I've always been fascinated with camels - their calm walk and funny feet and eyelashes. perfect desert animals - I agree. Yours seem rather nice and tame.

The last shot is so sweet! Also loved the dialogue above! These are quite cuddly looking camels - sometimes they're very tatty and boy, can they smell bad and make a lot of noise! Saw a lot of them when we lived in the Middle East!!

You know, when you think about it, these really are strange looking characters. They are sort of prehistoric looking. Have they been around that long, I wonder?

how funny! my daughter volunteered for a while at the oakland zoo which has a couple of camels. didn't get within spitting range. ;-)

Camels are cute, if sometimes ornery, creatures. But I've been bitten on the head TWICE by llamas so I bear them a bit of ill will.

I love the straight on shot of the Crowned Crane with the *hair* going everywhere.....that describes my week, and TODAY especially! LOL!!

Oh, these are SO neat and photogenic. We have lots of Sandhill cranes back in Wis so it is interesting to see these species. No crowns up there.

Crowned cranes are one of my favorite. I'm not sure but are they only found in Africa? anyway, watching them as they step through the dry grass (same color as their crown) is such a treat. The Sandhill migrates here, but leaves after a short time. We've still never seen one. Looks like you had FUN at the zoo!

This is a wonderful post. I absolutly LOVE Chickens and Birds of all sorts. What fun you had.

oh, my favs are the chickens - how fluffy they look. lovely photos and I haven't been to that zoo in donkeys years

The designs on the chickens feathers call to be drawn and quilted! Oh my goodness such living art they are!!!

That is an adorable photo of Bliss and of Emma. Annie does something similar in the night time. She will get two or three toys and put them in the living room. we always find some in the morning. She will even pick thru her toys in the sunroom and leave the ones she didnt want on the floor. I too wish she would learn to put them away. lol

How sweet. My kitties never gather toys. Bliss looks like one of the Edith Wharton characters, I think her name was Mrs. Munson Mingott who in the movie sat rather large on her throne/bed/couch too.

How cute. Some of those toys are as almost as big as Emma!

How regal she is! Love little Emma jesting there! Had to smile at Bliss gathering all the animals together at night. HRH Tia would never play with her mousie during the day - only at night - and we therefore assumed that it was too embarrasing and not regal behaviour to be seen with it during daylight! We nicknamed it 'embarrassing mouse'!

Your pets are adorable! I love that Bliss gathers her "babies". That's so sweet. We had a dog once who used to gather Christmas Tree ornaments - she didn't brake them, but she'd take them off the tree for her own purposes. That's when the tree went on the table.
