1. Animal Wednesday: Black is beautiful

Here are a few paintings of black animals I have done over the years.
I know Mim recognizes one of them :)

2. Animal Wednesday: Meditation

I had a day off today and all I asked for was to find a few moments to take a shot or two of the foliage before today's rain brings down all the leaves.
This is one of my favorite vistas. A house on the marsh looking as if it's its own island. I was thrilled to see it had visitors today as I was driving by on my way home from the market.

Hello, Mr. and Mrs.!!

Soft rain falling in Autumn...and swans!

Thank you, Universe.

P.S.  My nickname at work is tree hugger. And that's a bad thing?

3. Animal Wednesday: Mystery Box

Well what do you think is in this big box that came from Robin?

The lilac tissue is SO her :)

WOW!!! Look at the size of this guy! He's tired after flying all the way from San Francisco.
Well, he sort of flew :)

Emma took off like a shot and hid under the pillow!

It could be that she remembers the story about her daddy (Brian) getting attacked by ravens in Bodega Bay at the same place where "The Birds" was filmed. See the schoolhouse? She just KNOWS Alfred Hitchcock sent this damn bird!<

4. Animal Wednesday: What Emma Has To Say...

Sweet little yippity-yappity Emma HATES my new schedule!
It takes me away from her and her "normal routine" even though daddy does a fine job of keeping her feeding and walking schedule.
BUT it's not mom.

I get it!

I'm all thrown off kilter too.

I have been self-employed for the past twenty years. If I needed a break, I took one (or two!)
I'm not working very long shifts...six hours with an hour commute each way.
I love the people I work with and quite honestly I don't mind the work.
The customers are mostly wonderful.
The food is great.
But my body is wondering WHAT is up!
Today I asked that my break be closer than they were scheduling it so my blood sugar wouldn't crash. When it does, it's hard to recover. I'm a zombie.
I eat very little but I eat every three hours to maintain my brain.

Guess what? They said no problem!

So I ask you, what is Emma yapping about???

Oh yeah, she's a mommy's girl and she misses me.

AND I miss all of you!! I swear I'm trying to visit, I really am.

Ah, life adjustments. It's all good. ♥
HAW!!

5. Animal Wednesday: Heeeeere's Short-T!! and some ravens...

Meet Short-T, my favorite squirrel! She has a short tail (hence the name) and a white puff on the end of it! Even if you dislike squirrels, don't you think she's rather cute?

Hold on, I have an itch....aaaaah, ooooh. Better!

I think her tail is short because she's been caught before. I mean, she's not the smartest squirrel in some ways. Emma nearly caught her the other day because she came down the tree and walked right up to her! Emma was nearly out of her mind!
In other ways I think she may be VERY smart because she's been around for a long time. She's just a risk-taker I guess. I just adore her!

6. Animal Wednesday: Otterly Cool Dude

I pulled from my distant archives today because I needed a theme to cool me off.
"IT" has finally arrived.
"IT" is oppressive.
"IT" has no redeeming value.
"IT" is humidity!!!
So, let's all take a virtual dip in the Monterey Bay with this cool dude.

Happy Animal Wednesday to all of my cool (and hot) friends!

7. Animal Wednesday: Doggies in P-Town

The lovely Ms. Stella who was very generous with her kisses ;)

A sleepy old guy who appeared to be deaf because he ignored every sound I made to get him to look my way.

I think he's laughing inside!

An artist's companion

An artist's sleepy model :)

A lovely porch pooch

8. Animal Wednesday: I Lost My Gorilla

I've been going through some of my art lately and choosing which ones to frame and sell. I have always loved this guy. I can't find him anywhere though. He should be in the box with my other paintings on paper but he's not.
I'm on my way to call the Gorilla Rescue Police.
I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, I hope your gorillas are safe and sound.

Happy Animal Wednesday!

9. Animal Wednesday: Canadian Critters

Well, I'm back from my Canadian excursion to Ottawa. It was wonderful getting away and seeing my dear Uncle who turns 84 today.
Look, they have black squirrels!! I'll bet Emma would have gone nuts!

Usually my Uncle chases them away, but this guy just froze wondering who the heck I was. I think our squirrels are a bit prettier. He's kind of cool though!

He finally decided to scurry up the pine tree just in case I went psycho on him :)

This sweet little girl sits in her shop window overlooking the patio area where they sell yard items. I bought a very cool raven wall thingy for outside. I'll take a photo of it once I decide where to put it.

This is Miss Kitty, but the owners often refer to her as Miss Shi--y!

10. Animal Wednesday Whimsy

I was going to post more zoo photos today but I realized that they depress me.
I like zoos that can give animals enough space to roam and mimic their natural habitats as best as they can. I know some zoos save animals from dying by offering them a life of captivity instead. In most cases I don't find this to be kind.
All I have to offer you this Wednesday are a couple of ATC's of mutts I made up.
I'm also including a photo of my sweet cat, Bliss who had another mini crisis which put me into a major financial crisis. She's fine and she's worth it!
Hug your fur babies. They are not going to be here forever.
On that note, Happy Animal Wednesday!!

11. Animal Wednesday: penguins today and a tropical birdie

I always think of penguins as being bigger, like five feet tall. Especially Emperor penguins like the ones in the documentary, "march of the penguins."
At least this exhibit wasn't bad. The penguins seemed happy and well loved. They all have colored arm bands so the viewers can read about who's who.

This guy looks like he has a friend stuck on his back, hence the commentary!

Hmmm, should I go for a dip?

This is the old timer. He stole my heart.

hey, who's behind me?
They're sure cute little things!

12. Animal Wednesday: Spit Happens

We all know how camels, llamas and alpacas can and DO spit at people, but these two were very well behaved. My camera lens wasn't a target, at least that day.
This guy was a riot! So friendly and curious.

Such a poser!

Their feet fascinate me. They're like discs on the bottom with no indication of those two toes. And they seem so fluid! Just plain weird.

Don't forget to embiggen all these photos :)

You talkin' to me???

14. Animal Wednesday: Groundhog Flies Home

For the first time I thought I'd try that random number picker generator thing. I love it! No writing out all the names and cutting up papers. Easy-peasy-breezy!

ooooh, I'm on the edge of my burrow!

Maybe I can live in Felix's room!

Thank you all for entering. I'll have a spring giveaway in April.

Happy Animal Wednesday!

15. Animal Wednesday: Groundhog Day Giveaway

Well, what did you THINK I'd be giving away?
I just painted this little 4"x4" canvas specifically for this reason.
If you want to open your heart and home to this little "non-destructive" groundhog, leave a comment and I will draw the winner's name and announce it next Animal Wednesday, the 9th.
The canvas is really a soft green, not grey.

Happy Groundhog Day and Animal Wednesday!!

16. Animal Wednesday: The Queen and her jester

Bliss, the Queen on her Royal Throne accompanied by Ratty and Mousie.

At the moment she's not very amused by the Court Jester...

Emma, the Court Jester with a few of her many toys and Bliss's feather wand.

Now if only she would learn to pick up after herself ;)

The funny thing is, Bliss spends her evenings gathering all the toys (babies) into one pile while we're alseep!

Happy Animal Wednesday! May you be as entertained by your kids as I am.

17. Animal Wednesday: sunset, swans and sky fire

I've been working in the studio for most of the day trying to put in a certain amount of time and discipline. I was also enjoying it, although I haven't been well for a few days.
As it was nearing four o'clock I decided to drive myself down to this little park in my neighborhood and watch the sunset. It was quite nippy, but peaceful and lovely.

How fortunate to have these beauties show up for Animal Wednesday!
Three more followed behind. How can they handle that freezing water?

This was the finale!! I swear to you this is an untouched photo. The only thing I did was try a few pictures on the "sunset" setting. Wow! I also zoomed way in. That could be it, I got too close to the fire. Glad I did though ;)
Happy Animal Wednesday!

18. Animal Wednesday: She Be Stylin'

As promised to Robin, here is The Squirrel Huntress in her new winter coat.
The color is really more of a persimmon, not a HUNTERS Orange!!

I'm not one to dress my dogs, but let me tell you this little ten-pounder is freezing her butt off in these temperatures and it's only going to get worse.

Sorry for the , ahem, personal shot, but Emma wanted you to see her jacket from all angles. She's so vain!
Okay, back to the SQUIRRELS!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I've been a bit spotty here and there. Post and run and comment as I can in this busy season ;)

Happy Animal Wednesday!

19. Animal Wednesday: Journal Journey

I've been a bit quiet on the blogs lately because I'm trying to instill some self-discipline towards working. Today I painted this journal for Etsy.
I scooped up a couple of these at Michael's Craft Store knowing right away what I would add. I think any one of you could have guessed!

Yes indeed, my raven friend! I painted him with an acrylic paint base and then detailed him with colored pencils.

And then I added this to the back. So true, don't you think?

So here's my Animal Wednesday post for this week, a journaling journey!

20. Animal Wednesday: 100 on the cuteness meter!

I was on my way to Tiverton the other day to drop off more paintings and cards to the gallery when I decided to go down a side road to look for photo opportunities.
Look who I found!

He's such a short, stocky little guy and soooo friendly!! He wasn't camera shy at all.

This is his beautiful friend. She was protective of her little guy ;)

Awwwwww! 100% on the cuteness meter!

Rhode island has many beautiful marshes. I took this shot to hopefully use for a painting one day soon. I'd love to live in one of those houses and have this quiet view.

21. Animal Wednesday: Tree Bunnies

Okay, you ask, what does a tree have to do with an Animal Wednesday post?
Look closer!
You can see the profile of a bunny and the slightest outline of one ear against the branch. I swear I can even see his little front paws reaching up!!
Yes, it's true I was sipping wine in the yard the evening I spotted this, but what's your excuse? I know you see him too!

Here's another view. Be sure to click to "embiggen!"

Hmmmm, do you think it's a squirrel??
Maybe Emma the squirrel huntress chased it up the tree and it became "petrified!!"

hahahahah! Happy Animal Wednesday!

22. Animal Wednesday: Missing Felix

When Marianne and Felix came to visit, Emma immediately chose Felix as her new best friend.
We had never had her around children before because the SPCA had a feeling she wouldn't be good with them. I've always felt quite the opposite because she lights up when she hears kids voices and tends to pull towards them. Still, when asked if a kid can pet her I stay on the safe side and say it's not a good idea.
Seeing her interact with Felix and play with him daily really warmed my heart! I knew she'd have withdrawl after he left because he gave her so much attention and he was so gentle with her.
Here she is this morning curled up with her squirrel toy Felix bought for her.
She loves her squirrely!!!

I saw this card in a shop in Provincetown and I bought it to send to Felix from Emma. When I got it home I decided to make it look like Emma by adding a bit of paint here and there, and as you can see I also drew in her squirrely!

So here you have it, a plumper version of Emma but the sentiment was surely there.
She squashes her ears down like this when she's troubled :(
Thank you Marianne for scanning it because I

23. Animal Wednesday: Polo in Newport

Last weekend we were supposed to go to a concert, but at the last minute we decided to avoid the big crowds and join a friend to watch our very first polo match.
It was delightful!! The atmosphere was so relaxing and the horses and players were spectacular. Here are the two rival teams above.
There are 6 periods to a polo match called "chuckers." After each chucker the players change horses because playing 2 chuckers in a row is not allowed as it is too hard on the horses. They all bring their own steeds. Some bring three and play them every other chucker, and some bring 6 and use each horse only once. Imagine the loot it takes to do this! They are so good to these horses.
I was told that these animals go through rigorous training learning to turn on a dime and to not be intimidated by the slashing and swinging of the poles.
Look at what great shape they're all in!

The players are getting ready. Look at this handsome fella. The player ain't bad either!

24. Animal Wednesday: A Day Early

"It's as if you were guided by some greater power and knew just what was needed."

I got this wonderful card in the mail today and it immediately trumped the post I was going to do for Animal Wednesday. The polo pictures will have to wait until next week.
This guy won my heart!
I'm fasting today and will be out of commission for most of tomorrow.
Meanwhile, enjoy this blissful feline :)
This one's for you Annie & Spike

25. Animal Wednesday: Bad Ear Day

Me and my right ear just don't feel like getting up today.

Hey, some days are like that.

Happy Animal Wednesday to those of you who rose to the occasion anyway ;P

(Emma really does like to sleep in late! She is soooo not a morning fur-person!)
