1. Animal Wednesday: Bad Ear Day

Me and my right ear just don't feel like getting up today.

Hey, some days are like that.

Happy Animal Wednesday to those of you who rose to the occasion anyway ;P

(Emma really does like to sleep in late! She is soooo not a morning fur-person!)

2. Animal Wednesday: Tiptoe Through The Crocus

We haven't lived in this house for too long so imagine my surprise when I looked out the window the other day and saw at least 500 crocuses! At first I wondered what 'all that stuff' was in the yard, thinking somehow that litter of some kind blew in. The yard hasn't seen any love for quite sometime, I'm sure, but on this day it was very special to me. I can't wait to see what else 'pops up!'
As I was taking the shot little Miss Emma spotted a squirrel and began the chase!
I think maybe she was happy about the crocus-fest and she couldn't contain her enthusiasm! Well, she did trample a few of them.
Happy Animal Wednesday!

3. Animal Wednesday: Big Bad Bruin

Okay. Here's the story behind this portrait of my dog Emma in a Bruin's get-up.

My nephew Jamie lives in New Hampshire and he's a huge, die-hard Boston Bruins hockey fan. I used to be obsessed with them when I lived here before but other things have taken over my life. He asked that I paint a birthday card for him but I couldn't think of what to do.

I digress. Jamie came to visit us just before Christmas and he gave us a fleece throw with the Bruin's logo on it. It unnerved my sense of decor in a huge way. I came unglued (in my mind) about having that black, yellow and white thing on my sofa in my tasteful red and grey living room. No ugly sports crap on my couch!!!

That's until Emma fell in love with it. If you want her to move, just move her Bruins blankie. She will faithfully follow. She could care less if it 'matches the decor' or not. It comforts her. It makes her feel soft and nestled. I look at her under that blanket heap and I quickly 'get over myself.'

Gifts come in many packages. So do life's lessons ;)

Thank you Jamie. Here's your birthday card from your number one fans, Me, Bri and Emma.

Happy Animal Wednesday!!

5. Animal Wednesday: Beach Bliss

Well, she's not in California anymore but at least we found a little beach where Emma could run like the wind!

Happy Animal Wednesday, and to all of you who celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, I hope you have a bountiful day full of blessings!

7. Animal Wednesday: Bunnies

I was loving the crispness of the hint of fall today so I took a little stroll around my backyard. Lo and behold I saw a few bunnies! Who knew?

Pssst! Over here in the strawberries and ivy! It's me, Mortimer!

Come join me!

This is Little Nell. She doesn't want Summer to be over yet.

This is Gramps. He's really, really old and sometimes grouchy. Please don't tell him I said that!

Here's Mom and Dad. They sit under the lamplight on the front yard and protect us from Laurel's dog, Emma.

Just look at her! All fangs and ferociousness. Grrrr!

Happy Animal Wednesday, and watch your backside!

8. Animal Wednesday: Drug Testing

This is one of the loves of my life, my dog Emma. I've emailed this photo to a few of you already but I thought it was so darn cute I wanted to post it today!

Here's the deal. You know we're moving and you know what goes into the process. Things get packed and tossed around and moved about and the animals pick up on the frenetic energy of their world changing. Emma has a mild form of epilepsy but when she has a seizure, it's a doozey. She doesn't have seizures frequently enough to warrant medication, thank goodness. When I took her and the cat in for their pre-travel check-ups I asked if I could get some valium for Emma in case she got frazzled along the way.

So this is Emma with a half of a valium on board. You can't tell in the photo, but she was swaying ever so slightly! In my sweet-talking voice I said "Emmie, do you like the valium?" To which she tilted her head and gave me this zoned-out look! I'll take that as a yes. This cross-country drive will be a breeze ;)

Happy Animal Wednesday!!

9. In A Fog

One of the reasons I won't mind moving away from this beautiful place is the FOG that blankets us for the summer. Call me crazy, but to me summer is supposed to mean warm temperatures and lots of sunshine! It's so chilly here that I have to wear this big old winter pullover on most mornings when I walk the dog, who by the way hates to get out of bed in this weather. Look at her!
When I move back to New England though I'm sure there will be days of humidity that will be unbearable and I'll be praying to the fog Gods.

The grass always seems greener, doesn't it?

10. Illustration Friday: Hierarchy

She's top dog at our house. The little boss. All twelve pounds of her.

Never underestimate the tenacity of a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix in a Pit Bull suit. Ever.

Happy weekend everyone!

12. Illustration Friday : Celebrate Little Things

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

for the turn of the key...

and then,

Emma does her happy dance

because I'm home!

That's enough of a reason for her to celebrate. Lucky me!!

( a sweet reminder by Val Gal who misses her loving companion, Ratty.)

See her tribute here.
