1. Tom Hiddleston to Star in Hank Williams Biopic

The Avengers actor Tom Hiddleston (pictured, via) has been cast as country singer Hank Williams in a biopic entitled I Saw the Light. Marc Abraham serves as both the director and the screenwriter for this project. The story for this adaptation project comes from the book Hank Williams: The Biography by Colin Escott, George Merritt, and William MacEwen. Little Brown first released this nonfiction title back in 1994. Here's more from Variety: "Producers have obtained rights from Sony ATV for Williams’ songs, including 'Your Cheatin’ Heart,' 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' and 'Hey Good Lookin'.' Williams was born in 1923 in Alabama and broke out in the post-World War II era with the song 'Move It on Over.' Among his hits are 'Lost Highway,' 'Jumbalaya (on the Bayou),' 'Ramblin' Man,' 'You Win Again' and 'Lovesick Blues.'" What do you think?

3. Books for Christmas Presents

I haven't been changing my Favorite Book of the Week as frequently lately, because I'm spending so much time reading books for the CYBILS awards. And I'm not sure if it's ok to be "promoting" a CYBILS-nominated book by naming it my Favorite Book of the Week. So I've avoided doing that.

Anyway, I thought it might be fun to list the FBOWs I've done this year (I started not too long ago, so there aren't many) as a way to recommend them for Christmas gifts.

An adorable ABC book by Susan Heyboer O'Keefe, perfect for your kindergartener.

A simple, rhyming nonfiction book by Linda Ashman

A satisfying, thought-provoking middle-grade novel by Harriet McBryde Johnson

A heartwarming, very funny middle-grade novel by Linda Urban

A fantasy novel that will entertain even non-fantasy-lovers, by Lynne Jonell

A devastating YA novel by Chris Crutcher

A lyrical Arthurian love story by Lisa Ann Sandell

A simple, short book that's perfect for any teen or adult who wants to make his or her life a little better, a little fuller...by Patricia Ryan Madson

I read tons of other absolutely wonderful books, too! But these are the ones that made my Favorite Book of the Week sidebar spot the past couple of months, and I think any of them would make a terrific Christmas gift.

Happy shopping...for yourself or your young relatives.

P.S. I bought 4 books I'd heard of but hadn't read yet for my two teen daughters yesterday. Now I have to restrain myself from reading them until after they unwrap and read them. I guess I'd better wrap them today or they're likely to get broken-spined, smudged-up books!
