Four rejections in thirty-six hours. OUCH! Serves me right for obsessively pressing send & receive every five minutes and begging the universe to give me some news, any news...
The Moth Brigade didn't make it into the Robots Beyond anthology. It got right to the wire but didn't quite make it under. Despite the rejection, I am stoked the story made it so far - I mean PERMUTED PRESS (Wow!). Now of course I'm itching for them to release news of another anthology.

My surreal, serial killer, robot tale 'Bob's Spares & Repairs' is to appear in the Preditors and Editors Charity Anthology 'HELP!'. Woo-Hoo!!!
It's going to be a whopper of an anthology with stories from almost 70 authors including: Erik Smetana, Jeff Parish, Natalie L Sin, Gustavo Bondoni, Gary Braunbeck, Garry Charles, Stephen Mark Rainey, Joseph McGee, JG Faherty, Sheryl Nantus, Sara Creasy, Michael R Colangelo, John Grover, Colin Harvey, Eric Christ, Mari Adkins, Guy Anthony De Marco, William Blake Vogel III, Karen L Newman, Mark Leslie, Ellen Meister and many, many more... You can find the whole list at the Preditors and Editors My Space page.
In other news: Still waiting to hear whether The Moth Brigade has or has not made it into Permuted's Robots Beyond anthology. Seriously, I am down to my knuckles, everything else is gnawed away. Apparently Lane received 30 extra submissions in the last two days... OMG!!!

First off a HUGE thank you to Erik Smetana for my kick-ass new banner. Check it out - isn't it fabulous. I jigged a few of my colours around to complement it, and I believe the whole page now has a fresher look.
Second, I want to send HUGE thanks to Leah Clarke for proofreading my Robots Beyond submission. The editor, Lance Adamson, liked the story - that's good, right? Lance, however, also pointed out that the commas in particular needed work. I am now mid revision of the story and sitting surrounded by print outs on commas and transitive/intransitive verbs. God help me, I think my brain is going to explode.
Oh, and I can resubmit the story. Picture someone gnawing on her fingernails.
Am I paranoid about the commas in this post? Yes, yes, yes. Do I think I have improved? Yes, yes, I hope so.

Sometimes procrastination is good. Many times procrastination leads us on a path to an idea we would never have had if we had not taken the journey.
The fabulous, marvellous, oh-my-god why did I find it, picture to the left (discovered during Easter Sunday's travels) inspired an idea. Perhaps it is doing the same for you now - and if it is, please go away and think of something completely different, like for instance - nice, sweet bunny rabbits cooking on a stove. You know there's some other story you really want to write and nothing remotely to do with this print.
So why am I all, 'oh-my-god why did I find it'?
Because the idea it inspired is one suitable for the Robots Beyond anthology and the deadline is looming.
P.S. the picture is by Villemard, circa 1910, and is the artist's view of the year 2000.

Why am I doing these? Well, they're very satisfying and meditative. That's why.
I've been doing reading on sacred geometry, which includes mazes and labyrinths, fractals, spirals, the golden rectangle, cool weird mystical perfect patterns found in nature, all that stuff.
This one is called a Baltic Wheel as you may have gleaned from the title. I didn't name it that. Its an actual type of maze found around Scandinavia and thereabouts.
I did a much more restrained palette on this one. Maybe it was my mood. And the tiles are getting smaller too.
Hmmm...

This is based on a tantalizingly maze-like design in the Book of Kells. There is no entrance, and each quarter is a separate space.
I fiddled with it to make it into an actual working maze but gave up, deciding the original concept worked best after all.
Those monks knew what they were doing.
Hey Cate :)
Leah from the Permuted boards here. Shame you didn't make it in! Still, I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to find a home for it elsewhere. Good luck!
Cheers, Leah. I was sorry to read Reginald didn't make it.
Oh, ouch! Rejections do seem to come in clumps like that (I had three in two days this week), but at least you came really close! Sometimes that's almost as good as an acceptance.
Sorry about the rejections! I've had quite a bit this month myself acting wise. I get where you are coming from.
In the meantime I've tagged you over at my blog, come check it out and the rules!
Chin up!
I got a rejection from them, but hey... different editors have different tastes. I already have my story from 'Beyond' in front of another editor for a pretty well established genre publication.
Rejections suck.
There. Simply said. Not poetic, but good enough for government work.
Still, you've got more stuff out, and I'm certain one of them will be an acceptance!
Cheers everyone...
Thanks for tagging me Adrienne... Now I have to think of something innteresting - GULP!
I know that feeling of pressing send even when you probably shouldn't be simply because you want ANY news...not a great feeling. Sorry about the R's!
Yeeesh, that IS a bummer. Sorry to hear it. I am also constantly hitting my "Check Mail" button. According to deadlines, the end of April until mid-may will either be joyous or depressing for me...currently awaiting word on 13 different stories...
best of luck to you with the Moth Brigade, though!
sorry for the rejections...but know that you are NOT alone in abusing the Check Mail button. I too am guilty. It's looking to get further abuse all throughout the month of May...
Hey, at least you're still sending them out there, that's the main thing.
Cheers Barry & Mark...
