from time to time i post up a print theme and this time it focuses on tribal designs which can currently be seen on all manor of fashion items, art prints, and phone cases. the inspiration for this theme comes from aztec and navajo type motifs as well as nordic influences and a recent trend for all things triangular. to demonstrate the theme i have picked out some products and designs from etsy

following on from todays print theme here are some of the fashion prints spotted over the last few weeks featuring aztec, navajo, and tribal influenced prints.
if you are in the UK at the moment you cannot fail to notice the amount of patriotic designs currently in stores. with the jubilee and the olympics taking place in britain this summer there is everything from street party decorations and tableware to london themed stationery. the key motif for this theme is the union flag along with crowns, red, white, & blue, and iconic imagery such as red buses
as you'll know we designers have been into triangles for quite some time now, so it was interesting to see some recent uses for this trendiest of geometric shapes in the mainstream arena. these snaps were taken in john lewis where this new packaging fits in with the various products and themes of their 'playnation' trend (which also utilises the same pattern on a cushion amongst other items).in
i've also been browsing other london/uk designs recently and came across these tea towels and mugs based on airfix kits by victoria eggs.i also had a look around at the souvenirs at the excellent london transport museum shop in covent garden and took a few snaps... and finally below a few london mugs seen at whittard of chelsea.
i've recently spotted three maps designs and thought i could combine them in a post together. in this map of the USA each state features a different pattern and was created by jpress the online etsy shop of designer susan mcCanless. its available from here. vicky cockell of hello geronimo hand makes artwork using vintage buttons and badges. this map of britain was snapped in the royal festival

whilst out clothes shopping this weekend i couldnt help but notice all the soaring bird prints. birds in flight was the theme with everything from swallows and swifts to more exotic birds.
ooo I really like these and I particularly like the prints by sarah louise matthews.

Oooh, I love the Nordic-inspired print by Parada creations and the colour of the linocut by Tanya Brown. I'm trying to inject more colour, texture and pattern into my home and this has provided me with lots of inspiration - thanks!
