1. Cover Stories: Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby

The lovely Amanda Ashby is here to talk about the cover of her latest book, Fairy Bad Day (read a review from Supernatural Snark), which, as you can see, has tons of personality.

"I had no idea of what the cover would be like when I was writing it (hahaha—most of the time I was pretty sure it would never even reach the stage where it would have a cover!)

"My publisher asked for input, and I went and looked at a whole heap of covers to give me some inspiration. I found quite a few adult urban fantasy books that had headless characters who were leaning on a sword and I really loved them so I mentioned the idea..."

2. What's Your Type?

I just finished watching Zombieland for the first time. I've been wanting to watch it for a while, and when Hollywood video called to wish me happy birthday last week and told me I could have a free rental, I decided to go for it.

While I'm more of a vampire and werewolf fan, I have nothing against zombies. I read and loved Zombie Queen of Newbury High by the lovely Amanda Ashby, The Forest of Hands and Teeth by the lovely Carrie Ryan (by the way, The Dead Tossed Waves is due out March 9!) and my TBR pile just acquired Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I've watched some zombie films too, like Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead (which reportedly was the movie choice for my parents' first date), and a fairly recent one that dealt with zombies and the apocalypse but for the life of me (pun intended) I can't recall its name! Grrr.

Okay, that was quite a birdwalk from what I set out to write about today. What I was going for was a theme about BOYS. And yes, while zombies as subject might be hot, I have yet to see a zombie dude we non-zombie girls drool over.

In Zombieland, Jesse Eisenberg played "Columbus," a non-zombie character reminiscent of the characters Michael Cera usually plays--like in 2 of my favorites, Juno and Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist. You know, kinda dorky, awkward, nervous, quirky, charming, sweet, honest, and kinda-sorta cute if you squint just right. At one point in Zombieland, Columbus asks the little sister (played by Abigail Breslin) of the girl he's crushing on (played by Emma Stone) what her big sister's "type" is. The little sister says, "Bad boy," so Columbus drops their popcorn bowl on the floor (trying to be a "bad boy," if you didn't catch that). Yeah. Doesn't quite work. So, I'm not sure if it's the fact that they're in the midst of an apocalypse and the supply of hot non-zombies is severely depleted, Columbus's personality ultimately wins her over, OR she's flat-out tipsy from Bill Murray's 1996 (if I remember correctly) wine, but (please skip to the next paragraph if you haven't seen it yet and don't want a spolier) our sweet little Columbus gets to first base with his crush. Yay!

Now, that's what I wanted to write about today. What's YOUR type? Do you like the type of guy who goes shopping with you and tells you which sandals to buy? Do you like the guy who is "all business" and has his future AND your future

3. Random Coolness

Sleepless is available in library binding and I just got my hardcover copy. It's so cool! It's available on Kindle too, but I don't have one of those gadgets yet.

I also got an awesome review from That One Girl Emily.

Review: The first thing I'm going to say is the cover for this book SUCKS. It has nothing to do with the book. At all. It looks all fluffy and chick-lit-ish right? WRONG. Okay so maybe its pajamas, which sort of has to do with the book, but other than that, totallllyyyy wrong.

This is the darkest book I have ever read. It is so creepy and imaginative, it actually made me afraid. I sincerely did not want to go to sleep after reading this.

I've never heard of lucid dreaming, or have I experienced it, but I think it would be so awesome. Just picture it! You are in the middle of a dream, and you know exactly what is happening and are aware that you are dreaming. You could do anything! The possibilities are endless. And yes, the plot was somewhat RoCom-ish at times, but I could look over the cheesiness.

I loved this book. It was so believable! And taking the concept of a murderer killing victims in their actual dreams, and making it believable, thats tough.

Well done Terri Clark. A round of applause just for you.

On a completely different note...I've been on a zombie reading spree and that's been a lot of fun. Can't wait to get my hands on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. So far my personal faves have been Soulless by Christopher Golden and Zombie Queen of Newbury High by Amanda Ashby.

And finally, me and my fam went hiking through the Garden of the Gods and then traipsed around Pikes Peak. Here's a few of my fave pics.

Zombie Queen of Newbury High Amanda Ashby

Geeky Mia has never been entirely sure why Rob the football god, has started dating her. What she does know is that Queen Bee Samantha wants Rob to herself, and Rob seems to be turning. So, led by her hypochondriac best friend, Mia casts a love spell on Rob. A love spell that goes horribly, horribly wrong and turns the entire senior class into a zombie and Mia into their queen. Mia is puzzled and flattered by her new-found popularity until the new kid, Chase, tells her that Zombie Queen just means she's the first to be eaten. Now Mia and Chase have limited time to reverse the spell and save the prom.

Seriously, was my high school the only one in the US where the football players were not total gods of the school? Some of them were really popular yes, but so were some of the band people. Football player = super hot big man on campus is getting a little stale.

Anyway, a super-fun book and a really quick read. I loved how all of Mia's crazy cures and vitamins and supplements actually helped in keeping some of the zombie effects at bay.
