Koi Pond II is a small (5.5" x 7.5") watercolor on Rives BFK paper. This type of paper, a printmaking paper, doesn't allow for a lot of transitions but receives the watercolor as a stain. The image is from several pictures that I took of a friend's koi pond. When the fish hear her voice, they come up to the surface to greet her (hoping for food, of course).

The new kid is seated in the first seat in the first row...I don't think this is going to work for Fred. He looks a little frustrated!
I'm still working without Photoshop & have to edit my images in my camera's program, but I'm getting used to it, so it doesn't take as long. I'm still having trouble creating small icon sections of the work (for Illustration Friday and for Childrens Illustrators. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't seem to figure out how to make a perfect square and at the size needed without spending a long time with trial and error. Also, getting a good contrast isn't working in this program, so I'm having to work my piece harder for a better contrast (maybe that's a good thing!).
I am taking notes from your illustration about adding shadows and layers. I also like the point-of-view. I'll (eventually) try drawing my illustrations from different angles.
Indeed it's a good things. Finding ways around the problem. The illustration is so full of wonderment and beauty. I adore the colors the characters you created. This really is a word picture. It tells a story without words which is fantastic. Great job.
Poor Fred! I hope the new kid will move over a bit so Fred can see.
I wish I had suggestions for creating images w/o Photoshop, but I don't know how, or what program you're using. Crossing my fingers that you are able to get it to work or get Photoshop back again.
