One of the last warm afternoons of September, my friend Joan and I took our sketchbooks to Starbucks and spent a couple of hours sketching and getting caffienated. Later that night I bought my first Moleskine, and what a difference (as you can see here)! Joan's drawing convinced me to give one a try. My sketchbook paper had too much "tooth". I was not very happy with my sketches during this session.
The pencil sharpeners are actually ones I still had from when I was in gradeschool!
Joan drew my purse. You can see more of her drawings here.

I can't believe you still have your grade school pencil sharpeners and continue to use them as a professional! Pretty cool, actually! This was a fun day Kate. I can't have a grande black coffee without being reminded of smells of pumpkin spice lattes! :) Thanks for sharing!
Those are the prettiest pencil sharpeners ever kate! Beautiful sketch :o)
I really love seeing both of your sketches! You're both very talented!! That's so cool that Joan came all the way from Hawaii!! Now, you'll have to go visit her. Hawaii is my favorite place in the world. Specifically the island of Kauai! My hubby and I have been there 4 or 5 times and we'd love to retire there but since we probably can't afford that, I guess a month a year would do! :o)
Hi Kate...what a great afternoon!!! so nice to spend some time with great lattes and sketchbooks....and most of all great company!!!!
these illustrations are amazing ...and how sweet that you kept your sharpeners from gradeschool!!!
hugs

I've been wondering what the difference was with moleskine. I'm almost out of pages in my current sketchbook. I think I'll give moleskine a try. I love the delicate look it gives, even to potatoes and garlic. I'm so glad you were able to spend some fun time with Joan.
Sketch date at starbucks! How fun! Drawing and coffee, my two favorite things. The sketches look great!
Beautiful work Kate! So glad you could share some time with her. She looks like such a quality person. And you looks like such good friends from the pictures. You can tell you really connected.
What a nice idea to get together with friends to sketch! Looks like a great way to spend the day and be productive as well.
Sketchbook buddies? Why didn't I think of that! I need to promote that idea in class. PS, your stuff looks great.

One of my favorite things to do, caffeinate and sketch! Wish I had a pal to do that with. Love both your sketches. I just bought a moleskine too, but I've been afraid to put a mark in it. I'm weird like that. You've inspired me to go to Starbucks today at lunch and mark it up!
Your paper can never have too much tooth. Just wait until you get old and your paper has fake tooth. har har.
