1. Summer Reading Celebration Month

I'm pleased to announce that June will be a Reading Celebration Month here at Ed Ass. There will be other traditional fodder, such as publishing news and commentary, important news updates about hedgehogs and monkeys, and most likely an ongoing catalog of delicious things I ate. But on top of that, I have managed to secure a bunch of guest posts about favorite and/or important books from a number of people. So, more to the point, I'm pleased to announce my own ability to con people into doing onerous stuff they didn't want to do!!

Hopefully, Reading Celebration Month will help us remember why read--because books have the power to make us happy, change the way we see the world, get us through difficult times, educate us, and connect us to other people. In each post, the guest blogger will talk about a particular book that has been important or special to them, and why.

Guest posters include such minor celebrities as Momrat and Dadrat (one of whom is going to write their own post, or so they claim, and one of whom dictated theirs to me because they are unable to figure out how to turn on a computer, never mind use Blogspot; I'll leave it to your imagination which is which).

For the most part, I have peopled the guest blogger list with mindful citizens who wrote to me for innocent reasons and then got roped into this whole shebang. There are still a few open slots, so if you're interested in posting about a favorite book of yours this month, shoot me an email at [email protected]. As always, I'd like to include as many people as possible.

Happy Reading!

2. Favorites: Part Eight Jaime Morganstern

To celebrate the holidays we asked some of our favorite people in publishing what their favorite book was. Let us know in the comments what your favorite book is and be sure to check back throughout the week for more “favorites”.

Jaime Morganstern is an associate publicist at Planned Television Arts.

I remember asking my mom one day for a book she could recommend to me, preferably by an author with a few other books I would also enjoy. She handed me Love Story by Erich Segal. Little did I know that this would become my favorite book and I would soon read all the author’s other novels. (more…)
