Rachel presents the Ultimate Web Watch (the new overlords may have something planned but we don't know just what yet).
And don't miss the Cynsational interview with Groundwood publisher Patsy Aldana. That is one lady who tells it like it is:
Over the course of your career, what are the most significant changes you've seen in the field of publishing books for young readers?
The abandonment of the once great British and American houses of the tradition of the editor-driven list for a new reign of TV tie-ins, merchandising, and the need to make more and more money.
Rachel watches the web for pertinent links to articles in the current issue of the Horn Book Magazine. Abe and Mary Todd on Facebook, even.
between the July-August issue of the Horn Book Magazine and the wild reaches of the world wide web, Rachel Smith offers the latest Web Watch.
A tour through some children's-book stuff on the web (Web? internet? Internet? we've been struggling with this all week), with guest curator Mr. Potato Head.
Irrelevant point 1: all kind of unlikely characters have been showing up in my office since I got the fancy-pants computer with the camera.
Irrelevant point 2: I'm old enough to remember when the Mr. Potato Head toy assumed you would bring your own potato.

who is now editing HB? ("WE don't know yet."
Still me. Sorry.
But "the new overlords" decide what will go in the magazine? That sounds like "editing" to me. Sorry.
No, Webwatch is a feature on our website, produced by the marketing dept. And we have a new marketing dept. Let's see what they come up with.
thanks for the clarification - a relief to know! and totally unrelated: who makes up the code words - Phomma etc? they sound too much like real words - maybe esperanto?
