Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe has landed a memoir deal. Sidibe has become well-known for starring in the 2009 film adaptation, Precious.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) will release the book in 2017. Senior executive editor Deanne Urmy negotiated the deal with Kuhn Projects literary agent David Kuhn.
Sidibe had this statement in the HMH announcement: “I’ve been writing since I was a child and have always had so many stories to tell that are too long, shady, and impolite to share in interviews. It brings me much joy to add Published Writer to my resume of Actor and part-time Foot Model.”
Hey there Fruiters and Happy New Year. So here is the beginning of our new year which will hopefully be filled with books and movies of your liking. It's Christy here and my first Random Movie Recommendation is Precious: based on the novel Push by Sapphire
First, I know this is not the most uplifting subject, but the acting in this movie is simply not to be missed. It's not quite the tearjerker you'd expect (not that I didn't shed any tears, just not nearly as many as I'd expected) but this movie just may be the most powerful that I've seen. Mo'Nique is simply unbelievable and the newcomer, Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe is a shoe in for the Oscar.
The movie follows an illiterate young woman growing up in Harlem. She is pregnant with her second child (fathered by her own father) and living with the mother who won't be winning any mother of the year awards. So like I said, it's not an easy film, but absolutely amazing.
I can't say enough about this film except, GO!!!
I'll probably Netflix this one at some point - I've heard great things but it sounds similar to some of the kids you and I used to work with and I don't like crying at movies. Well, unless it's happy tears like The Blind Side.
I can't wait for our movie night next week though - you know we're gonna laugh a lot! :)
