3. A years work.

Hello I am on blog holidays trying to finish some projects. One of  them is to get my portfolio together. Of course I am totally confused because I don't know what to pick - yet. In the mean time, as an avid and well practiced procrastinator, I made this video.

The images are quick and meant to provide an overview. I think reactions will depend on the age of the video audience - among other things. I made them quick to try and keep interest. It goes for 11 mins and the average image is on screen for just over a second. The Irish Jig is a 'free' release, the song by McKennett from a commercial CD - so I am trying to find something to fit that spot.

It's best to watch in HD if you have the time and bandwith.
Thanks for your time. I'm open to reactions, criticisms etc. Eg it makes me sick, it spins me out, I was bored after the first twenty mins, I couldn't understand the plot, I woke up in hospital with epilepsy, my cat died after watching this....  Personally the music is stuck in my head and is driving me nuts. :)

4. Homage To Forrest Illustrations

Hello, Chris' great cup illustration made me realize the importance of tongues. Thanks Chris! I know mine are a bit odd. :) But the kids looked pretty rough without them actually :) It was part of my images for spooky. When I am tired I make up new characters and put them in the puppet box. Which is why these one's exist. They are waiting for their chance to be in an image.

9. IF Satellite

This is one of a series I did showing a young boy's dream about rescuing the dog Laika from Sputnik 2. The dog Laika was the first large animal in space. It died within hours of being sent up. The image is for IF's satellite. I tried  to make the boy more child friendly after the last kind crits. Thanks for any comments.

10. New Person in Paisley

Hello, Andrew Finnie here. Thanks very much for letting me join the group. I followed Karen (stalker I am) whose (who's?) work I admire immensely - and when I saw the quality of the other work here I asked to join.

I do illustrations similar to the above image. My work is three d derived then photoshopped. With photoshop elements I aim to bash the CG image into something that looks more traditional. Sometimes I succceed, most often I fail.

My ultimate aim is to make a few books for intelligent kids. Almost graphic novels but not quite. I admire Cloudchaser kind of work - though the writing in the first volume at least is dribbling balderdash that might have been lifted from a third rate Cornflakes Pack, I would like to emulate the style of illustrations.
I also admire Shaun tan's work, The Arrival. - how he tells a complicated emotive story purely with the use of pencilled images.

Anyways, the aim of the above image is to illustrate the idea 'pailsey' - purely by the way of integrating the paisley design into a few elements of the image.

Any comments welcome.

I'm looking forward to this group being energetic and thoughtful and helpful. I believe what you get out of something is the equivalent of what you put into it.

By the way, I can't spell :)

18. Caricatures of Kings: King Richard I and John Lackland

John (on the right) has his brother's face, distorted by greed and treachery. Both men, history tells us, were caricatures of kings. Richard "spoke very little English and spent very little time in England (he lived in his Duchy of Aquitaine, in the southwest of France), preferring to use his kingdom as a source of revenue to support his armies"

John, on the other hand, "acquired two epithets. One was "Lackland" , because, as his father's youngest son, he did not inherit land out of his family's holdings, and because as King he lost significant territory to France. The other was "Softsword" signifying his supposed lack of prowess in battle

Apart from entering popular legend as the enemy of Robin Hood, he is perhaps best-known for having acquiesced – to the barons of English nobility – to seal Magna Carta, a document which limited kingly power in England and which is popularly thought as an early step in the evolution of limited government."

20. Insanity

Hamlet: the epitomy of arguable Insanity.

Ghost: I am thy father's spirit,
Doom'd for a certain term to ... walk the night,
And for the day confined to fast in fires,
Till the foul crimes done in my days of nature
Are burnt and purged away. ......

23. And The Winner Is... Andrew Finnie!

The winner for the "Mystic" challenge is:

Andrew Finnie!

Congratulations to Andrew Finnie. I chose Andrew's "Mystic (Tattooed Lady)" as the winner for the Mystic challenge. Andrew's beautiful 3D renderings have graced this blog for a while now and he was due for a win. His illustrations show incredible detail, color, lighting and mood. His creativity is his greatest gift, able to tell a whole story with a single image. Andrew's Mystic really captured the theme. Hats off to all the other crystal ball illustrators too! :)

I've written this before but I want to repeat it: The quality of art and the wonderful artists here at Monday Artday constantly amaze me. You are all terrific and inspiring and the reason why this blog is so popular. It's always the hardest thing I do all week to pick a winner. Keep 'em coming, artists!
