(Second in a occasional series featuring highly biased editorial book lovin'; spoilers ahoy.) I first heard of Timothy and the Strong Pajamas by Viviane Schwarz when it showed up on Arthur's "Future Planning" list in the fall of 2006. "'Strong Pajamas'?" I said to Arthur. "What is that?" He grinned and said, "It's a book Alison Green is publishing for Scholastic UK. You'll love it." "Ooo-kay,

I wrote this essay a long time ago for a Scholastic promotional newsletter, and the permalink thus far has been on Arthur's blog, way down at the bottom of the page. But as I link to the essay from my books-I've-edited page on cherylklein.com (and I can never mention that URL without wanting to laugh), I'd like to have a more stable location for it, so I am reposting it here. Feel free to ignore

by Andy Griffiths illustrations by Terry Denton Feiwel and Friends 2007 (Pan Macmillan, AU 2006) "From the author of The Day My Butt Went Psycho!" This book is just screaming for that kind of attention. Take one part Dr. Seuss, one part Edward Lear, place in a blender with a dash of Dav Pilkey and a bit of Cartoon Network juice, pulse until the blender begins to smoke and then breathe the

Stop. Immediately. Hollywood may be awash in all sorts of superheros, spies and pirates but attempting to ride their gravy train in publishing has been a huge mistake. And from the looks of the titles in my review stack there are many editors who just don't get it, especially with the superhero stuff. I am referring to stories about the boy (always a boy) whose powers are lesser, or
TIMOTHY AND THE STRONG PAJAMAS sounds adorable, Cheryl. I'm going to get it for my cute twin nephews.I also wanted to say thanks for your sweet postcard note concerning my chapters of SECRET RITES OF THE GODDESS and your interest in seeing my King Tut novel when I'm done with revisions. I'm excited. The March issue of Cricket Magazine has my Egyptian story "The Mummy Tent" and it turned out
That book sounds awesome.
I found this book at the library-- I started reading it on the floor, and I loved what I read (alas, I cannot read *and* put away books at the same time). I'd steal it into the back, but that would mean tearing it away from the kiddos. And that, alas #2, is something I could not live with.
As a writer from the UK I've recently stumbled upon your site via a link on the SCBWI critique site uk.I think I'll be back to read more of your informative blogs. The way your break down the structure of TIMOTHY AND THE STRONG PAJAMAS has helped imensley. I've been struggling with a couple of texts and now I'm hoping to look at them with fresh eyes. I'm also going to look out this book and read
My dear doting neice brought this book to my grandson. He LOVES it as a bedtime read. There are two things that I enjoy about T & the Strong PJ's. One is the delightful script that dances across the pages. Timothy doesn't speak in nice straight Times Roman or whatever. His words dance uphill & downhill in big & little fun script, of course. The second is that the mommy understands perfectly
I just love this site. Thank you so much for a wonderful site with all the wonderful book news. It's a favorite. I always use is as my 'reward' after I've had a really productive morning. I sincerely appreciate it. Donna Koppelman

It sounds so adorable! I'll have to look out for it the next time I have book-buying money! It sounds like something my kids would ask me to read over and over and over and over and then WATCH OUT at PJ time, cuz something strong is going down! Thanks for the fab review.
