1. February is Heart Month

February is Heart Month in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It is a time to raise awareness of heart and circulatory diseases. Heart Month highlights all forms of heart disease, from certain life-threatening heart conditions that individuals are born with, to heart attacks and heart failure in later life.

To mark Heart Month, we have created the interactive image below to demonstrate different cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures from theĀ Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, selected by the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Marko I. Turina. Cardio-thoracic surgery deals specifically with the treatment of diseases affecting organs inside the chest, the heart, and lungs. Heart conditions, which may be treated through cardio-thoracic surgery, include heart valve disease and congenital heart disease.
