I love the frondy tips of antennae on those critters. Makes them feel more like a fictionalized creature and less like an insect...

I'll have to keep an eye on Mavis, it sounds like - I have a small version of the Rooster Boys in my studio as well... (Maybe it will make her feel more at home? :-)

I hadn't realise how BIG cockchafers are. Impressive stash of yummy type stuff, however I am concerned your telly may topple off that lovely tin - why not use one of the type chest of drawers to put it on, (sorry for organising).

Inn is indeed full, but who could resist the chance to rescue all that lovely type. I did lots of letterpress in school and what fun it was when you got everything right. I, too, am taken by Mr. Cockchafer's antennae frills, makes him look very festive! Nice news about the dream job, they are out there, dream jobs that is.

I'm so impressed at your ability to stash stuff, if that had been mine it would probably still be sitting in the middle of the room!

Let me say how terrific it is to know that your illustration work is going very well. About the filling up of a small space with lots of treasures ... well, I totally am in your corner. I cannot see that corner for all the treasure that is between me and it, but you do get my point.

Whenever an artist can come upon a source of inspiration, or be giving some sort of thing (paint, tool, book, whatever) that feeds that artist's dreams and creativity, well, that source must be welcomed!

Every now and then, I do find something to send on to another place ... but so reluctantly.

I didn't realise May Bugs had such cute faces - they're usually propelled out too fast to notice! What a great find, all that equipment - well done merging it in. Nothing wrong with 'stuff', my house is full of it too...

that is one very sweet beetle! (i dont mind spiderds either!)

I was curious about your mission of press mercy ... and am glad to see what it was about. I love all those wooden drawers.

Now if snails didn't go about eating our plants, then maybe we'd be more indulgent toward them and rescue them.

Thanks ever so much for the lovely card, Gretel, which I will be taking into work to show the folks. It's somehow reassuring to see pics of the type in situ; even though it's not taking up so much of your floor space it does seem to be taking up a lot of volume, i.e. breathing space!

Thanks vivian for doing this. I think Sally would have loved this — she seems to have gotten a great kick out of the interview and how lovely it was to hear her voice.

I think the interview was one of the latest ones that Sally did. It’s amazing how clear she was from the start on how she felt kids should be supported in their learning. She was a treasure.

This was an amazing podcast to listen to. As an American University Grad student who just started this past fall I was never able to actually meet Sally Smith but have heard the most wonderful things about her. The very first time I came to visit the school to learn about the program I was told about her and since then have waited for the day to meet this innovated woman who I hear had some amazing clothes. Unfortunately I never did, but I am truly inspired by all the work she has done and this podcast allowed me to hear her voice and her stories on how she began a school that has become a true blessing for students who have learning disabilities.

Thanks Megan…on the upside Sally touched to many people’s lives that you could talk to any one of many many folks at AU, Lab and beyond and continue to get to know Sally. Those of us who knew her for some time are learning and learning more about her from each other!
