1. Hey! I made a pattern/zine/comic thing!

This is how deeply softies have gotten into my brain. I sat down to draw a comic, something I've wanted to do forever. And this is what came out. It's a pattern! It started out as just a once page idea, but then became the whole booklet.

It may be just a lark, but it was a fun one!
If you'd like to see more of the booklet, just click here!

2. Bad Dogs

Forgive me, for I have been a negligent blogger. And I do not intend to get much better.

I've started a new series of paintings though. I call them "Bad Dog Confessions".

3. SFG: Nice

Here's my interpretation of "nice":

That's probably really hard to see, so here's a link to a larger version.
And here's a detail:

Because what's nicer than chicks giving & receiving presents?

4. Illustration Friday- Homage

Here we have a Chickenpants drawn in the Kochalka style. Why?
Because the third artist that popped into my head was James Kochalka. (Warhol? No screenprinting stuff. Picasso? Nah...Kochalka? Yes!)I admire his drawing style and tiny paintings, sure. But there's something about his daily American Elf comics that really strikes a chord in me. It no doubt has something to do with the voyeuristic pleasure one gets from going through another person's sketchbooks, or getting to see such a personal glimpse of how they live their lives. He lives in a wonderfully unconventional way. It's great to see snippets of other artist's lives- the good, the bad, the odd... Makes me feel less strange.
So although I don't think his drawing style really influences me, his drawings absolutely do. They make me want to draw every day. They nudge me closer to making my own little comics.
So, thank you, Mr. Kochalka!

6. Concept illustration of Aria, Golden Sword of the Sunrise

Jessica Hoshi a cheerful and optimistic girl
“This is gonna be my sword when I get my warrior form and learn about all my powers. It has a golden blade and gives me all kinds of powers like being able to make the sun shine anywhere I want. See the little alto clef in the ricasso? That’s the symbol of the Warrior of the Sunrise. There’s a place in the pommel for little gems too, but we don’t know what kind of gems go there yet, ’cause we haven’t found Aria. But we have to find all the treasures so we can all be warriors, huh? Be sure you don’t miss out on our stories!”
