Will Compost Brite reject Moodsy The Clinically Depressed Owl for her new love, Mighty Mister Titan? This coming Monday, Cartoon Dump is back with a “very special” season-finale cliffhanger episode!

Joining us in this month are guest comedians Susan Burke, Emily Maya Mills and Lizzy Cooperman; plus the ukulele stylings of Thessaly Lerner, The Ukalady! And of course, the crappiest cartoons in the history of crappy cartoons!

Showtime is 8pm Monday night, September 24th, at the Steve Allen Theatre in Hollywood California (4773 Hollywood Blvd; two blocks west of Vermont), and tickets can be purchased at the door or online here. Join our FaceBook Event page for more information and updates. Be there!

2. Monday Night: “Cartoon Dump!”

It’s August and hot as hell, and that means it’s time for another steaming pile of crappy cartoons from your inconsiderate friends at Cartoon Dump. I will be there as your humble host and the show’s co-producer.

Showtime is 8pm Monday night, August 27th, at the Steve Allen Theatre in Hollywood California (4773 Hollywood Blvd; two blocks west of Vermont), and tickets can be purchased at the door or online here. Join our FaceBook Event page for more information and updates.

4. Mark your calendar: 3 Animation Events in LA

Three, count ‘em Three (3), animation events hosted by yours truly, all within a week of each other and coming up soon. Please consider joining me and my cartoon pals at any or all of the following screenings in Hollywood, California:

Saturday April 21st: The first of my all-new series of monthly animation matinees at The Cinefamily on Fairfax. This inaugural show features a collection of the trippiest animation in cartoon history, as classic toon-dudes from Porky Pig to Popeye enter strange new worlds, see spaced-out sights, and smoke some seriously wacky weed (no joke — we are running the Andy Panda cartoon called Wacky Weed)! You won’t need any prescriptions to inhale these hallucinations — so just sit back, relax and let the sunshine in. Munchies will be on sale at the candy counter, but the good stuff will be on screen in rare film prints (some in psychedelic Technicolor, even.) Tune In, Turn On, Admit One! Showtime is 4:30pm. For more Info, click here!

Monday April 23rd: Yep, its that time of the month again, and boy am I cranky. A bunch of truly awful cartoons surrounded by an absolutely hilarious live comedy/music show with Frank Conniff, J. Elvis Weinstein (both of MST3K) and Erica Doering. We call it Cartoon Dump and perform it at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood. Showtime is 8pm and tickets can be purchased here. Check out the new FaceBook page for more information and updates.
Thursday April 26th: Part of the LA County Museum of Art film series celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Paramount Pictures is this one-night tribute to the studio’s animated legacy. At 7:30pm South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut will screen – followed at 9pm by a tribute (curated by me, Jerry Beck) to Paramount Cartoons where I will introduce a full program of 35mm archive prints – including Fleischer Betty Boop, George Pal Puppetoons, Famous’ Baby Huey, Gene Deitch Munro and John Hubley’s Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass Double Feature. The double bill with South Park is $10. There will also be a separate admission available ($5) for just the Paramount shorts at 9pm. Come! LACMA ticket info here.

8. MONDAY in L.A.: “Cartoon Dump!”

Moodsy the Clinically Depressed Owl cannot be in Carton Dump this month because he’s in rehab for his auto-erotic-asfyxiation addiction. (In a very emotional group therapy session this morning he got all choked up.) So this Monday’s show will be guest-hosted by Andy Kindler and Dumpster Diver Dan with a sensational line-up of stand-up comedy guests mixed with the usual assortment of unbelievably awful cartoons.

Monday, September 26 at 8:00pm – Special guest host Andy Kindler, plus Melissa Viallasenor, Hugh Moore, an incredibly jet-lagged Jerry Beck, and special guest star Greg Proops!

Where? The Steve Allen Theater, 4773 Hollywood Blvd. • Free Parking! • Advanced Tickets here • Phone: (323) 666-9797 • Map & Directions

ANIMATION TUESDAYS – Tuesday March 1st at 8pm
This month we welcome guest curators Mark Caballero and Seamus Walsh of Screen Novelties as they spotlight rare Rankin-Bass goodies from their collections, as well as highlight work from the studio’s unsung heroes: the Japanese animators who were responsible for much of their aesthetic. Capping off the evening is an incredibly rare screening of the studio’s first AniMagic feature Willy McBean and his Magic Machine (1965), which follows the rollicking adventures through time of a boy and his monkey pal. Join us as we pay much-due tribute to these godfathers of pop-culture!

At the Cinefamily @ The Silent Movie Theatre in Hollywood, the films start up at 8pm. Buy Tickets here.

13. MONDAY in LA: Cartoon Dump 2010 Halloween Show

On Monday I’ll be just back from Ottawa and hung over from a week of watching great animation. To get me back into the swing of things I’ll be hosting Cartoon Dump, my monthly live comedy and cartoons showcase, in Hollywood. We will have guest comedian Andy Kindler and its our annual Halloween party. There’s nothing spookier than Mighty Mr. Titan… except maybe Moodsy, the Clinically Depressed Owl, Compost Brite, and Dumpster Diver Dan.

Wanna know more about Cartoon Dump? Frank Conniff (Moodsy), Erica Doering (Compost) and I recently recorded an hour-long podcast for Epic Magazine’s This American Wife that explains what its all about.

Join us Monday (10/25) at 8 PM, for an evening of hilarious comedy, demented songs, and really, really crappy cartoons. It’s again at the Steve Allen Theater, 4773 Hollywood Blvd. (two blocks west of Vermont). Map here, see you there!

14. Jerry’s October event calendar

If you can’t find me in October, you aren’t trying hard enough. Join Frank Conniff as Moodsy, the Clinically Depressed Owl, Erica Doering as Compost Brite, J. Elvis Weinstein as Dumpster Diver Dan and Jerry Beck as “Jerry Beck”, along with special guests Dave “Gruber” Allen and Erik Charles Nielsen, 8pm at The Steve Allen Theater, 4773 Hollywood Blvd. • Free Parking! • Advanced Tickets here • Phone: (323) 666-9797 • Map & Directions • And friend us on Facebook.

Tuesday October 5th is my 3rd annual Halloween animation screening at the CineFamily/Silent Movie Theatre. This year I’m sharing the stage with Seamus and Mark from Screen Novelties, who have curated a special spooktastic show featuring several monster movies of their own along with clips and shorts of their most dearly beloved creepy creations. The second half of the evening we’ll screen a very rare 35mm print of Disney’s The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, featuring of course, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Join us – it should be a howl!
I’ll be showing vintage 16mm cartoons to open the Janet Klein show on Thursday October 7th at the Steve Allen Theatre. This month we are celebrating both Janet’s new album, Whoopee Hey! Hey! and my book The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes Cartoons. I’ll be signing books and Janet promises to sing several songs from classic cartoons. It starts at 8pm. Tickets: here.
I’ll be attending the Ottawa International Animation Festival October 20th-24th where I’ll be doing a book signing (Thursday October 21st at 6pm), and screening a program of vintage cartoons now deemed Add a Comment
