2. Twisting Vines

Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

I got several macro lens attachments for Christmas (Yeah!) and it's been fun playing with them. Just check out these vines close up. They were twisting around tree branches and they reminded me of this verse. We don't want any wickedness coming in, twisting around and preventing our hearts and lives from being right with God.

Can you believe this budding branch? I think it's a little confused. It's not even close to spring yet. Strange!

Happy New Year!

3. Disney at Christmas Part 2

Here's a few more photos that I took at several of the Disney properties all decorated for Christmas.

Check out this life sized gingerbread house! Wow!

A giant gingerbread carousel.

This gingerbread snowman from the movie, "Frozen," was new this year. It's hard to believe it's a giant cookie! It was life sized!

Merry Christmas!

4. Disney at Christmas Part 1

Recently I mentioned that we spent Thanksgiving in Orlando and while there, we visited most of the Disney hotels to see how they decorated for Christmas. Here's a couple of photos that I took during that trip. I just love how they decorate!

Aren't their decorative soaps so cute?!!

Blessings,
Jenni

5. Candy Cane Apple (again!)

Here's a blast from the past. Do you remember this candy cane apple from a few years back? I still like to make these at Christmas time for my kids.

Just wash a red apple.....

Cut up several strips...

Slice into equal parts....

Just arrange!

7. A Snowy Visitor!

I could hardly believe this one....look who came to peer into my window! It's Fluffsters, the pretty wild cat that I was talking about in my recent post HERE.  So far, this is as close as she will let me come, but hey, it's a start right?!

We recently had our first snow for the winter, which is really rare for us this early. They are calling for a very cold winter here so I'll likely need to find some time to do a bunch of extra cooking and stock up our deep freeze.

With the cold coming in, it's easier to get into the Christmas spirit!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

8. From my Kitchen Window

From my kitchen widow you can see a bunch of turkeys running away from my camera lens! Stop running turkeys! I got out my telephoto lens to capture these guys but they always see me and I have to snap fast photos (which is hard to get camera exposure settings that fast!).  These turkeys only show up when it's not turkey hunting season. It must be deer hunting season now because all the deer have "disappeared."

These little acorns that my daughter and I found at the pumpkin patch used to be on my kitchen window...I can't find them now. Hmm???

And finally, from my kitchen window, I snapped a photo of my currently favorite cat...who does not like me much :(

This is Fluffsters, a wild cat who lives behind our house. Isn't she cute?? She won't let me get very close to her (yet anyhow).  I'll keep trying......

Blessings,
Jenni

9. The last of Fall

Fall is on it's way out...and definitely the prettiness of it has faded from our backyard.  Here's a few photos that I'll have to hold on to and remember until next year....

10. Pumpkin Scrubber

I have one very dedicated pumpkin scrubber who lives at our house.  My little gal worked on cleaning her pumpkin after visiting the pumpkin patch with great diligence! I mean, it took at least 30 minutes for her to clean this very small pumpkin (Heehe!) but it's super clean now..............

Oh wait, more soap just for good measures......
Ok, Ok, I think it's clean now....time to rinse the poor pumpkin and maybe paint it some fun colors!

Happy November :)

11. A Recommended Book for Girls

If you have a daughter, I have a fun book to recommend to you today. It's called Brave Girls Bible Stories (I bought it HERE on Amazon). I originally heard about it from my blog friend Christina over at the Olive Tree.

I am going to use this book for my Sunday School class of girls but also at home as well. It's awesome! The illustrations are very beautiful and I really like how it has modern day characters who introduce each Bible story and how it relates to modern day girls and tweens today.  It reads like a devotional so it's something that you could read every night. Very awesome. I'm guessing that I'll be talking about it on my blog when I find ways to incorporate the stories into my SS Lessons.

My daughter has been reading this a lot on her own lately. Also I read it to my daughter for 30 minutes the other day, she begged me to read more. I told ya, it's really good!

Blessings,
Jenni

12. Claiming Healing in Jesus

I set up this little sick dog scene (in surprise) in my son's room while he was at school to go along with a Bible lesson that I'm teaching my kids. I can't wait to hear what he says about it!

Isaiah 53:5
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

We have been dealing with a serious surgery in our family and I realized that I was holding on to fear, not claiming victory in faith like God would want me to.  The Bible says that faith can move mountains and we need to claim the promises of scripture as truth for our lives. So, I'm claiming this verse, "with his stripes we are healed," and teaching my kids today to do the same.

If you need healing for anything, let's bring it to the Lord in prayer together:

Lord,
We need your healing touch and we believe
that you can and will heal in this situation.
Help us to keep on believing and having unshakeable faith.
We claim today that by your stripes, our situation will be healed.
We claim victory in Jesus!

In Jesus name,
Amen

14. A few Favorites from September

focal length 300mm, f/5.6, exposure 1/200 sec

 focal length 300mm, f /5.6, exposure 1/400 sec

Where we live, September brings several unique changes that I look forward to seeing again:

* Golden light on the rolled hay bails in both the front and back yard

*Cheerful sunflowers that pop up all over the surrounding areas as one last "hurrah" before the cold season hits

*Plants that look like wheat (not sure what they are actually called??) that seem to glow in the light

*Cicada insects that are super noisy (I won't miss these actually but they signal the end of summer)

*My neighbor's tree that's already changing red for fall! Yeah!

........Coming soon will be the black fuzzy caterpillars that cross the road in the early morning. They always signal the start of cool mornings. I've never gotten a photo of one. Maybe this year!

15. I Can

Mums in our backyard
  I Can
do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:13

"Lord, help us to be all you intended us to be and not to miss out on the ability to bless others, or be blessed ourselves because we have an I can't attitude. We can face what we need to face, conquer what we need to conquer, and trust in you while we do it."

-I CAN find the energy to cook my family dinner after a long day.

-I CAN keep working on housework even though I'm worn out already.

-I CAN be brave and try that new thing.

-I CAN go to that social event and meet new people.

"Lord be our strength and help us to have an I CAN attitude in you and you alone."
-Amen

16. More on Katie's Inspiring Life

I have a follow-up reccomendation for you today. Do you remember when I wrote about Katie Davis's interview last May (Here)? Well, Dr. Dobson has 2 new interviews (Here & Here) and they are awesome!

Katie's devotion to God and her life inspires me so much. She was only 18 years old when she gave up everything to be the hands and feet of Jesus in Uganda and eventually ended up adopting 13 little girls and starting Amazima ministries. Wow. Wow.

I have learned so much from reading her book, "Kisses for Katie" and this is one of my favorite quotes of hers:

"I do not know my five-year plan; even tomorrow will probably not go as I have planned. I am thrilled and I am terrified, in a good way. Some call it courage; some call it foolish; I call it faith. I choose to get out of the boat. Sometimes I walk straight into his arms. More often, I get scared and look down and stumble. Sometimes I almost completely drown. And through it all, He never lets go of my hand."-Katie

Blessings,
Jenni

17. In my Window Sill

I walked by the kitchen window and saw that my son had placed this leaf in the sill. I think it looks a lot like a fall leaf don't you? I'm claiming it as our first fall leaf (maybe a far stretch!). As anxious as I was for spring to come, well, I'm now that anxious to get rid of the heat. I love how with seasons, you can look forward to a change just when your tired of the season your in. What a blessing seasons are!

And speaking of seasons, my life is in a new season now that my kids are back in school (as I'm sure many of you can relate). I can actually hear myself think. Kinda weird. I've been blasting music in the house to create some "noise." I'm currently loving this CD of Francesca Battistelli.

Blessings,
Jenni

18. The End of Summer

Hey Friends,

Just in case you're wondering, I'm still here but I had a nice blog break while my kids were home for the summer. And speaking of summer, it just keeps getting shorter and shorter. I remember a time when I was a kid that summer lasted 3 months. Not anymore. I will say though that while I love sleeping in and not packing lunches, it's nice to get back on a school schedule after awhile of lazy daisy-ness, you know? Anyhow, here's a few photos from our summer.

My daughter made these butterfly cupcakes. They are just cupcakes cut in half and turned around.

Blessings,
Jenni

19. Lazy Daisy Summer

Daisies from our back yard field

How is your summer starting off? Are you able to relax and unwind yet?

We aren't really relaxing yet, well not exactly. My mom came and we worked on decorating (mainly sewing curtains). I'm not too good at sewing. I guess I didn't get that talent. Anyhow, the curtain I pinned was a little bit lopsided and my Mom ended up having to re-sew it. Oh well. So, I ended up painting an illustration for decoration instead. That's more of my comfort zone!

We got a new blow up pool out last week for the kids. Wow, what a chore that was to put up! *Note to self, just buy hard plastic pools in the future! Our air pump didn't seem to work much so we ended up having to blow up most of that pool by ourselves. So exhausting!

Also, I've made THIS  homemade 5 minute ice cream recipe tons of times over the past 2 weeks. I LOVE it! You've got to try it. It's so simple! I suggest you freeze a package of fresh strawberries for it. That is the best! YUMMMMM!

Blessings,
Jenni

20. An Inspiring Life Story

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]-->All day long, over and over I have been thinking about this inspiring life story that I watched on youtube the other day of this young woman (Katie Davis) who followed God’s purpose for her life.  I think I’ve seen Katie’s interview like 3 or 4 times now and I’ll probably watch it again. You have to see it!!!!

Katie was the prom queen, the head of her class, and had her pick of any colleges, but she gave up everything after high school to answer God’s call and move to Uganda to minister to children there.  She is now just 23 years old, has adopted 14 little girls and heads up Amazima Ministires.

Ask God to open your heart if you do watch her testimony because I feel like even though she is really young (23 years old), she has so much wisdom to share, specifically about finding God’s purpose for her life (which we can all apply to our own lives), obedience, and about trusting in God for your needs.

This interview is on the first half of this video from the 700 club. Click the link below to watch it.

Katie also has a blog and a book

Blessings,
Jenni

21. Be Still..Trust in His Love

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]-->I saw a beetle in the house today and I don't really mind them as long as they live outside and not in my house. Spiders on the other hand, well, I just smash them. But beetles, are kind of cute (sort of).

Anyhow, I decided to save this little beetle's life by picking him up with a Kleenex and tossing him outside but that little thing just kept on wiggling and wiggling and wouldn't be still and let me pick him up.

I kept thinking that if this beetle wouldn't be still, he would end up getting accidentally squished.  This made me think about how when we worry and worry and don't really stay still and let God move in our lives, we might make choices that aren't best for us based off of fear.

As this school year is coming to an end and the future is a HUGE unknown, I'm realizing that God really wants us to just be still and trust him. It's hard to do, and I've been struggling so far (like the beetle) but I decided today that I'm going to start trusting in his love...

Psalm 37:7
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him

My prayer today (and maybe yours too):

Lord we praise you,
Thank you for our tomorrows Lord…that even though there’s a big blank question mark for our lives next year as this school year comes to an end, and the future is scary and unknown, I’m so glad that you’re the one in charge.

Thank you for loving my children even more than I do and that you know the path that they need to be on to lead a righteous life in your eyes and to make a difference in this world.

Lord, please help us to be still, wait patiently, not worry and know that you will take care of us…

We love you,
 In Jesus name,
 Amen.

22. Spring Color Theme

Every season around here seems to naturally have a color scheme. I've been noticing that all year long when I put together collages of photos that I take around town (like the one below). This month should definitely be called Yellow and Green.
