1. Tuesdays Question- Have You Ever Skipped A Day Of School?

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday's Question. I wonder if I should have phrased this question, "Have You Ever Been Caught Skipping A Day Of School?" But, then I thought, maybe you never have skipped a day of class, but if you haven't, you can still tell us why.

I began asking questions every Tuesday since 2007 in an effort to get to know my readers, for you to get to know me and to encourage conversation between everyone who leaves comment, so feel free to comment to each other.

If you write a blog or website I will link back to your site, plus, I must warn everyone who comments, if I like your answer it may show up in a published post.

Although, please let me know in comments if you would like your answer to remain within this post and your wishes will be respected.

Alright, now's the time to tell, Have You Ever Skipped A Day Of School?

I'll be fair and answer first:

Have You Ever Skipped School?

I'm ashamed to say that yes, I have, although I rarely skipped the whole day. In high school I skipped math class on a frequent basis and never got caught, but one crispy Spring morning a friend and I opened our front doors to the intoxicating fragrance of  Magnolia Fuscata's, which are tiny magnolia blossoms that smell like banana's. Magnolia Fuscata's are one of the most heady scents found in the Southern United States, so we when we stepped off the school bus, we couldn't resist making a run for a field of clover across the street from our school.

Once we realized we hadn't been noticed and we caught our breath, we lay on the soft bed of clover, laughing, then opened our books and began to read. -novels not textbooks-

It was blissful, I can still feel the feathery clover and smell the promise of Spring on it's way...until...we heard footsteps marching in our direction.

I don't know why, but we pretended we didn't hear him, when our Principal said,

"Miss Clemmons, just what do you think you're doing?"

I think my friend was relieved because he didn't address her by name, so she just kept reading, it was if she thought if she didn't speak, he wouldn't see her.

But, the reason he said my name was because when he called my house and asked if I was ill our housekeeper told him,

"No, she's not here, and she's not ill, she's probably across the street in that field of clover reading. Go look, I'm sure you'll find her."

Okay, that's my confession, now it's your turn: Have You Ever Skipped A Day Of School? And, if you never skipped class, why?

2. What's The Most Outrageous Experience You've Shared With A Friend?

This week’s Tuesday’s Question is: 'What's The Most Outrageous Experience You've Shared With A Friend?’ -Sorry, it's a week late-

As stated in my last post, my computer, "Sam" was admitted to the hospital last Monday for minor surgery. I thought I'd have him home in time to publish a question by now, but that didn't happen. -As it turned out I had to pay a few costly repairs before Sam was discharged.-

I know it sounds goofy to name your computer, but I think I’m technologically advanced or maybe even a visionary, ‘cause Computer Technicians are beginning to remind me of doctors, which makes sense, seeing how computers are the twenty first century's version of the television set.

One of these days, we'll depend on our Computers Techs. as much as we do our Physicians and Veterinarians, so I decided my computer should have a name, gender, and a tons of personally.

Anyway, that is why I’m publishing my weekly post, ‘Tuesdays Question’ so late in the day a week later, I'm sorry, I apologize for the delay and for missing my blogging buddies posts. -Thanks for your patience.-

Alright, with that out of the way, all you have to do is answer the following question and feel free to comment to each other. If you have a blog/website I will link your answers back to your blog/website.

Also, there is a possibility that your answer will be published in a separate post. This is something new, I used to post all comments, but now I've decided to surprise you. Either way, I will link back to your site.

Alright, if you haven't already left, here's this weeks question again: "What's The Most Outrageous Experience You've Shared With A Friend?"

Here are a few examples: Something you saw or experienced in public, watched on film, places you’ve been to visit, etc

The one person in the world who knows your outlandish, wild, free-spirited side is your best friend/friends.- Because they know and love you for who you are.-

For instance, when I was about thirteen and in junior high school, my best friends’ father referred to me as â€œTrouble,” instead of “Ann.”

I think great friends find themselves in crazy situations because we share an unconditional love that encourages us to be ourselves.

If love is the grandest gift ever bestowed upon mankind, then friendship is one of its finest ingredients-

My answer:

When I was sixteen- In 1977- my father bought me a 1966 Chevrolet Malibu and boy could that car fly. To make a long story short, the city had just finished building a new interstate through Baton Rouge and we were more than happy to try it out, you know make sure it was safe for everyone else.

Oh, I've never told my son this story, especially when he was a teenager because you would not believe what we did. One of us would sit in the backseat directly behind the drivers seat, then hop on the interstate and punch the wheel to the floor, and I mean literally to the floor.

Then, when we got a steady speed going, we'd count 123 quickly and switch seats. In other words, if I was in the back, she would slide over to the passenger side, then I would jump in the drivers seat and continue driving.

Every time I remember us doing that I say a little prayer for us as well as our children who would have never been born if this prank among many others had ended in a bad way. Especially, since we took the future fathers of our children were one many of our trial runs.

Thank God for large and small miracles.

Alright, that's my outrageous experience shared with a friend, what is yours?

3. Bloggers Recount Their Fashion Emergencies (Answers to Tuesday's Question )

This weeks Tuesday's Question asked, What Was Your Most Embarrassing Fashion Memory? Which meant to give an account of a time when you left the house feeling out of place or like something wasn't quite right.

Or to recount what you wore in high school, junior High or some other decade. You know, those times when you left home with other things on your mind beside what you were wearing... Well...my readers did a wonderful job of remembering their horrifying moments and they were kind of enough to share them with us. Thank goodness because they left the funniest replies I've read in some time.

Lately, I've been posting the answers/comments to Tuesday's Question on the same day that I posted the question. Because I'm afraid the search engines might think I'm posting the same post if I write the question one day and the answers the next with the same title. But I think it's funnier when you read the answers right after you read the question. In addition, you can read the comments all at once, rather than having to come back and read the comments throughout the day.

In any event, I decided to write another title and post the last Tuesday's Question's comments today. Then, I can ask you in a poll which way you like the best, or which way you think I should publish Tuesday's Question. I will put the poll up before I post the next question.

Oh, and by the way, the handsome fellow in the image is Eric from The SpeedcatHollydalePage. I used his picture on another Tuesday's Question post entitled How would we know You? in May of this year and he's so funny I couldn't resist using it again...I hope he doesn't sue me...

Anyway, before he does, I thought this picture would work perfectly for this post, especially since I'm celebrating Tuesday's Questions star bloggers this week, and Speedy is a Quiz Whiz badge recipient.

Alright, my lawyers have just informed me that I better hurry before he sees this post.

Here are your answers to this past Tuesday's Question,
What Was Your Most Embarrassing Fashion Memory?

The answers started with my nightmare:

It was raining, so I ran to my car and jumped inside. I could see my neighbor from inside the car, waving to me, but the rain was so loud I couldn't hear him, only see his mouth moving as he stood in his doorway.

I wondered what he was trying to say. After all, I was running with a purse on top of my head in the pouring rain. Wasn't it obvious I couldn't hear him?

When I sat inside my car I was relieved to get out of the rain, except I was worried about keeping my eyes open while driving down the road. I had been working hard lately, trying to save money for this and that. Such as my cat Simon’s root canal and the outrageous cost of his therapy.

Every time something unexpected happens in my life, it threatens the wind in my sail, and throws my life as well as my hormones overboard. I'm afraid my ship will wreck before my dream ship has had time to dock. I’ll been o.k. though, well, I'll manage, but yesterday was one of those days when my "troubles looked as though they were here to stay," to quote, a Beatles song.

Hence, by the time I walked inside the grocery store, I was in a daze. I kept staring those long stares that never end, you know the long ones into thin air? When your eyes focus on a spot and you can’t move them? Then you yawn the long yawn that stretches your mouth open so wide a semi truck could plow over your tongue.

And I keep yawning the annoying yawn on the coffee isle of all places. I stood staring at the coffee on the shelf for I'm not sure how long, when at last someone woke me. I felt a hand lightly touch my shoulder and say, “Are you o.k. Miss? “

“What? Oh, I’m sorry. Yes, yes, I’m alright; why do you ask?” I said. Instead of answering with an “I’m sorry, I’ve just been tired lately." Because I thought that answer might make me sound delusional or on drugs.

I thought the stranger may go away but he keep looking at me as if I had recently entered the Earth’s atmosphere and decided to have a look around. I said, “I’m fine, sir," again thinking he would go about his business, but he continued his gaze. I could see his eyes look down my shirt, and then move back to my face, as if he was looking me over. It was creepy, so I said something like, "O.k., good day then” and scurried out of there to get my milk.

Then after I got my milk, I was shocked to discover another starer in the grocery line. It was weird; I mean I could understand why someone may be concerned about why I was staring into space, but that was one person, now another person was staring at me. They weren't "staring into space" like I had the decency to do, they were staring at people. I hate it when people stare at you, because you don't know whether you should stare back, wave, look quickly the other way or what, since you don't want to appear too threatening or too friendly.

Anyway to sum up this brief excerpt, the cashier stared at me too, in fact, she looked as if she took pity on me and the guy that bagged my groceries smiled sweetly and said, "Hang in there. We all have bad days." I have never wanted to get out of a place so fast in my life, it was like living in a bad episode of the Twilight Zone.

On the way home my blood ran cold at the thought of so many people finding me so interesting all of a sudden. After all, what was the big deal about staring into space in the grocery store? I mean we've all done it, right? Plus, most of the people who were staring at me didn't witness me staring at the shelves on the vegetable aisle anyway.

When I finally returned home and brought my groceries in the house, I called to my son to come and carry the heavy bags for me, but when he saw me he looked startled- then he started laughing. I said, "What is it? Everyone keeps looking at me like I have egg on my face. What in the world is it son? You tell me right now."

He playfully took me by the hand and brought me before the bathroom mirror and everything fell into place. Although I was humiliated by what I saw: My blouse was on inside out, I had eye make-up on one eye and not the other, or better yet, I had make up on one side of my face and not the other and I wore a different earring in each ear.

That was my most embarrassing fashion memory.

What is yours?

Grace from Broadway Matron

You know I don't have one. I can look at some old pics and laugh at the make-up we wore back then but I looked just like everyone else, so no harm, no foul.

I once left the house without my skirt but it was winter and I had a long coat on so no one knew but me - I got all the way into the subway when I realized that the draft I was feeling was my lack of skirt! I was wearing a body suit and somehow in my rush to get dressed I grabbed my coat before my skirt. (I had a studio apartment and only one closet so coats and clothes were all in the same closet, which happened to be in the entry hall).

I would never wear any of the clothes I wore when I was young, not because they were inappropriate, they were right for the times, but I would never even fit into them today. Let's face it a chubby 62 year old woman should not wear hot pants! (But I have a pic of me at 25 in hot pants - ooh-la-la I looked good!)

Don't worry, next up is a comment from the hilarious Daisy, The Curly Cat...

From Daisy's Mom:
My biggest fashion secret is that my cat dresses better than me. And has more outfits. Oh dear!

Next is from the fun and always funny Maunie at Maunie's World

On my birthday, a black day indeed,
I wore a white leather skirt...mini
mini, a pair of white boots, a white hat perched on my head...and a white jacket...Of course, I had on a black tee.

You have to forgive me though, it was the big three "o"

I thought I looked amazing...hubby was in New York and I felt sorry for myself so I grabbed two girlfriends and off we went...now
looking at the picture I look like
a "hooker out of a job"

I do have to say I got hit on a lot...even though we just went out to eat and to a jazz bar...

well what do I win honey for exposing myself like this...yeah, yeah, all in good fun but I bet you can see that image for a long time...

November 14, 2008 6:22 AM

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then my dear friend Sandee at Comedy Plus said,

I don't have a story either. There are some styles in the past that I cringe at, like polyester. But I really don't have a horror story.

I loved your shirt on inside out and half makeup and half not. Just goes to show you that you just have to take the time to look at yourself before leaving the house.

Have a great day and weekend sweetie. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then Dan from Using Humor bravely recounted his high school garments...

In High School For some reason, known to no one, I purchased, and wore, a bright yellow pair of hip hugger bell bottom pants and a matching yellow silky shirt, and wore them with a pair of four inch platform shoes. Even I realized I looked like a Canary the second and last time I wore the outfit.

November 14, 2008 8:44 AM

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And get ready to laugh yourself sill when you read this one from Sue at SanityonEdge

Annie, maybe this is not really a fashion embarrassment, but here it is. My Hubby and I were invited to a get together with some of his friends at work. There were going to be people we did not know there so we wanted to make an impression (stupid, stupid stupid) We smeared instant tan stuff all over our bodies, and because we could not see a difference we smeared more, and then smeared more. By the time it came for us to leave we both looked like pumpkins! Of course I am sure we looked as stupid as we felt. I will never ever do that again!

November 14, 2008 9:35 AM

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then Maunie from Maunie James had a delayed reaction to my fashion nightmare...(laughing)

Read this...

errr ummm how do you put your make-up on half your face? You are scaring me honey...I have to confess once when I was helping out a friend over at head-start I had a couple of brownies with hash added and none of us knew...I was going to a wake and three times I ran upstairs to put on my make-up...when I came down the last time I scared the kids...they actually screamed and so I washed my face...I managed to put it on three times but never half a face...hummm

November 14, 2008 2:07 PM

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And just as I was beginning to recover from laughing at Maunie, here comes Margaret at Nanny Goats In Panties

The first thing I'm reminded of was about 1988. I was about to walk out of the bathroom at work and a coworker (bless her heart) stopped me because the back of my skirt was all stuffed into my pantyhose. If I were more vain, I would have at least checked my ass to make sure there was nothing funny going on back there - sheesh!

November 14, 2008 4:27 PM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And...Jackie from The Painted Veil keep the mood going...Thank you Jackie...I can't believe it happened to you too~

Oh Annie...you have me laughing so hard.

I don't know if I can answer. but, I have done the same thing with the shirt. But, not the make up too!!

Oh my I can't even think of an answer now...you blew me away!!:-))

November 14, 2008 6:17 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then Abelle at Only In Silence kept the laughing going...we were on a roll...

I was and still am not so much into fashion. But one thing that I felt really embarrassed recently was when I was on the way to pick up Jeff from school.

The school was about 300meters away from where we live, and since we don't have a car, I took a jeepney (a public transport here in the Philippines) and from the jeepney stop, a 30-meter walk to the school. While I was walking, I felt something went loose inside my shirt. And seconds later, I came to realize that it was no other than - my bra!

I always wear my hair in pony tails. The good thing here is I have long hair which goes down to the middle of my back. So while walking a bit faster now, I 'un-pony tailed' my hair and let it loose so that people behind me won't notice what just happened.

The second I entered the gate of the school, I immediately looked for the girls' room, which by then was filled with some high schools and grade school girls. They looked at me as if their eyes were saying, 'What is this old lady doing in here?'. You know, it's not usual that parents go in there. I directly went in a cubicle, hooked my bra that has just decided to unhook itself, then went out and waited for Jeff near the gate.

That's it. Not so much of a fashion story, but it can pass as a horror story ;o)

November 15, 2008 12:44 AM

And Abelle, I think your story qualifies as both a fashion and a horror story, like mine...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And last, but certainly not least, The Muse at A Diva's Hammer...Wielded By The Muse
wrote the kindest comment. Her words truthfully made my day, as well as crystallized the effort involved in putting this post together. Because sometimes you're not sure if you're making a difference, until people are thoughtful enough to write extraordinary kindnesses.

Thank you for making my day, The Muse, and I'm glad we made you smile.

Here's her comment:

LOL I loved this post!...
On a day that has been ALL work, and seriously so, you have given me the opportunity to simply Enjoy life...LOL! Thank you!

November 15, 2008 10:29 A

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to every single one of you for your hilariously fun comments and for making Tuesday's Question a fun, open and thoughtful post every week. You're simply the coolest people I know...(don't tell the people I know who don't blog I wrote that. )

This weeks Saturday Movie moment will be posted tomorrow, due to the celebration of Tuesday's Question and the introduction of the Quiz Whiz Badges. Also, since I have so many posts published in relation to Tuesday's Question I will put the original question for this post in draft, particularly since it's the same post with your comments included.

4. Tuesday's Question: When Was The Last Time You Were In An Uncomfortable Or Potentially Embarassing Situation?

This weeks Tuesday Question: When is the last time you were in an uncomfortable or potentially embarrassing situation?
Here are a few examples I hope will help:

Have you ever called someone you know professionally or personally by the wrong name... or waved back at someone from a distance who was waving at someone else?

Or entered the bathroom during a party after someone didn't or couldn't flush the toilet...leaving the contents in the bowl for the next person (you) in line?

At the risk of sounding presumptuous, I think we've all been in these situations, although the bathroom experience is the one I have the most trouble understanding-

I mean, why doesn't the person ahead of you ever tell you the toilet is broken? I think when anyone slides out of the bathroom in silence with a flushed (no pun intended) look on their face, it means one of two things A) They couldn't flush the toilet and were embarrassed; or B) they don't want you to think they did it, even if they didn't because if they mention the unmentionable you will hold them responsible...therefore it's better to pretend it doesn't exist- someone should bottle denial ...
(Remember what they said about water.)

I say look inside the bathroom before you shut the door, then you can say something, like "Um, do you think our friends have another bathroom?" but do this as soon as you see the floater...

That way the guest behind you doesn't have to deal with the embarrassment and they know you didn't do it, because you just entered the bathroom- it's just common courtesy and sense.

Also, I look in the toilet bowl as soon as I enter the bathroom, because if you linger and primp in the mirror applying your lipstick before you wander over to use the bathroom... then discover the twirling remains...well you may have to take ownership...

Bottom line don't stay in the bathroom too long; and be sure to go to parties where there will be two restrooms available...

O.K I think you get the meaning of this Tuesday's Question, if not please feel free to ask me in comments and I will be happy to offer you a few more examples. Remember, when was your last uncomfortable or potentially embarrassing situation..you have to have had one...

If this is the first time you've read Tuesday's Question it's easy and fun and my way of passing weekly blog love as I get to know my readers. All of the questions are original from my own zany brain, although asking questions at parties and particularly on blogs is nothing new, I wanted to ask my own. Therefore, I decided to ask the kind of questions I would inquire of friends at one of my one bathroom parties because it's fun and I could post everyones answers, and link to their blog the next day.

Bloggers comments will be posted with a link by their blog name, so be sure to stop and read their comments and maybe even visit some new blogs after the comments are posted, it's fun~

However, in todays case your comments will be posted Thursday, since I'm posting this question Tuesday evening, and everyone needs time to comment. (I usually post them on Weds.)

In addition, I would like to beg my regular readers and wonderful friends forgiveness for posting so late in the evening, instead of earlier in the day as usual...and I have a confession to make- I wasn't really taken hostage by a calf as I said in my previous post- I just didn't know what to say.

I had one of those terrible bad days; it was as if I were going backwards on a roller coaster unable to get off...no matter how much I screamed at the ride conductor, or gate keeper, or ride controller, whatever you call them- The reason? Because I've had awful insomnia lately and the words I wrote this morning also looked backwards on the page. So I decided you deserved better and waited until later in the day...after I managed to close my eyes for awhile. Therefore, I hope you will forgive me and have as much fun answering the question later in the day.

And thanks for reading... As usual I can't wait to read your answers...

5. Tuesdays Question: What Sound, Smell, Song, Etc, Reminds You Of A Happy Moment Or Person?

Welcome to Tuesday's Question! And congratulations to the new award recipients of the You Cheer Me Up Award winners underneath this post. What is difficult about using blogger is when you want to do three important posts at once. One covers another, so I'm going to leave Tuesday's Question first for the beginning of the day, and this afternoon I have a few special friends to thank with another award to post.

Moving on, I have a nostalgic Tuesday's Question today, but it should be a fun one.

What Sound, Smell, Song, Etc, Reminds You of A Happy Moment Or Person?

You know when you're driving along the road and hear a song on the radio that reminds you of someone or something that made you happy? Or when you smell a certain perfume or go to a particular place, it evokes a happy memory ?

For example, for me it's pipe smoke. The other day in the grocery store a man was smoking a pipe and it brought back images in my mind of the happy times I spent with my maternal grandfather, and even sub-conscious observations I made about him when I was a child.

Much of what we write about comes from life experiences, imagination, sub-conscious memory, and observation. For me, stories begin as pictures or visions or memories in my head, that many times evolve into something else- but in order to paint the picture or the memory for the reader, I use my senses and sub-conscious memories, etc. like pieces of a puzzle to make up the image, and it usually brings back memories I didn't even know I remembered- if that makes any sense.

I think writing helps us with so many things in our life, because it pushes us to examine our authenticity and forces us to ask questions- kind of like I'm doing to you today. :))

Anyway, I hope you have fun pulling up memories and as usual I can't wait to read them. What smell, sound, or memory, etc... have you had or experienced this week that may have reminded you of something or someone? Here is my happy memory brought on by a man in the grocery stores pipe smoke- From that experience I remembered this...

Pipe tobacco reminds me of my grandfather- the smell of smoke billowed from his mouth and hung in the air- before joining the rest of Fall's bouquet- when the breeze in the air smells as crisp as newly-washed sheets one a clothesline, sending fragrances on the wind, and through the drapes of an open window. These images blend and shout his name-like the seasons, people, and places he loved-- but the smell from his pipe was different- it soothed my soul like a cool drink of water on a hot summer Sunday - I remember locking my dirty knees inside my hands- secure the world was right... as my grandfathers pipe bowl snapped, cracked, and burned the tobacco inside. He knew where I was, although his eyes examined the pages of a book, reading the phrases of others from another world, in perhaps another time. I love the smell of pipe smoke.

Thank you for participating and reading, and I hope to see you next Tuesday, until then~ I can't wait to read and post your answers~ Have fun!

6. Tuesdays Question! Have you Ever Had A Reoccuring Dream?

Welcome to another Tuesday's Question: Have You Ever Had A Reoccurring Dream?

If the answer is no, then what is the best or worst dream you've ever had?

I can't wait to read your answers and don't forget your comments will be posted in a post tomorrow with a link back to your blog. It's my way of getting to know you better as well as spreading a little link love. In addition, I hope it will introduce you to each other, so don't forget to return tomorrow and read everyones comments, it's fun~

Here is my reoccurring dream:

My heart is pounding as I hold my son on a raft in the deepest part of the ocean at night. We are grateful for the light from the stars, which serve as our only compass in the middle of a vast sea miles from land. They twinkle like diamonds, reminding us we can see, even if we're too afraid to look in any direction. I can hear my son's voice, and the slap of the waves as they splash against the raft while it rocks miles above the the ocean floor.

I'm too scared to suck in enough air to talk to my son, whose face is ashen as he looks at me hoping he will read comfort in my face, so he can tell himself we're just on another boat ride, and we will return home safely. I fear I'm going to die from terror, because there is no land, no boats, no cell phone, nothing but the grace of almighty God to save us, then....

My boy falls off the side of the raft, into the deep water and away from my grasp- I feel frozen as I watch him slip into a sea of darkness leaving nothing behind but silence and the ripple of a small wave.

With one hand on the raft I dive as deep as I can and still hold onto safety, but I can't see him, until I let go of the life boat and dive deeper, praying I have enough air in my lungs to reach him.

The murky water is stinging my eyes, but I keep following him until I grab one foot, a foot that keeps slipping through my hands, but I keep grabbing and pulling until I pull him to the surface.

We're ahead now and burst through the top of the water, gulping air and treading around in circles looking for the life boat. However, when we spot it, the swim to it is another grateful accomplishment, or gift.

Then we rest, holding onto the side of the raft, turning around in circles listening to the water clap against the sides in the darkness, and again look toward the stars for navigation- when my little boy looks at me with water dripping from his eyelashes and says, "Mom, what are we going to do?"

I've had this dream three times, the last of which was about three weeks ago, and my son is now an adult. The first two times he was seven. It just terrifies me every time I dream it and I don't know why.

Have you ever had a reoccurring dream?

7. What Year Was Your Favorite Birthday And Why ?

"I had more candles on my cake! Although, I guess that's not something to brag about though is it?- Well, never mind." :)

What year was your favorite birthday and why? First, let me apologize for posting Tuesday's Question so late in the day. My stepfathers mother, Marie, passed away yesterday so I spent today at the funeral home saying goodbye. Although, with the exception of today I've been running behind a lot lately, for no apparent reason and with no acceptable excuse for my tardiness. Plus, in case you haven't noticed this is the third Tuesday's Question I've posted late in the day in the last three weeks. I've just been in a quandary for some reason, but at least today I have a legitimate excuse for my tardiness.

I would have postponed Tuesday's Question and almost did, but Marie was not the type of person who would have approved of a postponement-people of her generation invented the attitude behind the expression, "the show must go on," in addition to having the ability to teach us lessons even after their death. Moreover, she would have been delighted to know that I returned from her funeral, and wrote a post about the celebration of life-

Therefore, today's Tuesday's Question is What Year Was Your Favorite Birthday and why?

But before you answer, I want to tell you something real quick- I wrote a post yesterday that will serve as the perfect example of how one person can change the attitude of another in just one day. The post I'm referring too, I was writing before we found out about Marie's passing. However it's interesting because I was feeling like the Old Maid in the deck of cards, because my birthday was Sunday, and all day I thought about the deck of Old Maid cards. I felt down yesterday because I have lived 30 something (O.K. forty something) years, and today I feel admiration for a woman because she lived 92 years.

Am I a wimp or what? I wasn't sure which post to post first, but I decided I had better post this one first, since today is Tuesday and the Old Maid post was supposed to be posted yesterday... However, when you read it after this post remember my attitude will have already reversed.

Alright, I'll stop babbling now so you can answer Tuesday or almost Wednesday's Question:

What Year Was Your Favorite Birthday And Why?

8. A MESSAGE FROM ME TO YOU

Two words:
Markus.
Zusak.

Man, I wish I had a name like that. Mine has all those bouncing syllables and stuff. His...simple bookends. Now we all know Mr. Zusak's THE BOOK THIEF - which was a wonderful read and I enjoyed it for all the praise-worthy reasons.

BUT - having just finished I AM THE MESSENGER I have to stand up and cheer - and hand out recommendations to anyone looking for a mysteryious, thoughtful, deeply funny first person narrative. I don't pretend to be a "reviewer" so I'll keep my horn-tootin' to this:

Read it. All the way to the last words that gave me chills.

On a related note: I didn't READ it. I listened to it on a car ride my son and I took last weekend to New Hampshire and back. Both myself and my 13 year old were captivated by the story that features a 19 year old deadbeat of a main character and a coffee drinking dog and a mystery involving 12 playing cards.

I drove him to and from school all this past week so we could listen to the chapters - we drove in silence as the story continued to hold us and make us laugh and smile...and think. We finally finished the book in our driveway - and since the main character Ed is a cabdriver - there was something fitting about it.

Read it. Or listen to it, which for me was a delight because Mr. Zusac is Australian and the actor who read the book was an Aussie giving the flavor of the story with his accent. (I love an Australian accent - and this guy was great!)

And now...I mow my lawn.
