I was on the search for Valentine's Day hearts inspired showcase, when I bumped into the wonderfully imaginative world of Michelle Allen. I ended up going through almost all her delightful, quirky, art and creations, and if I could I'd have them all in my home. For the moment I shall have to satisfy myself with sharing them with you ... here are a few of her whimsical love pieces ...
How cute are they? Seriously, as soon as I can I'm hopping back to her website and getting myself some of these happy-making lovelies. An esteemed panel of judges (possessing much expertise and very good taste) pored over portfolios yesterday to choose winners for the SCBWI Portfolio Showase! Laurent Linn, Steven Malk, Richard Jesse Watson, Nancy Conescu and Jamie Weiss Chilton chose a grand prize winner and three honor winners as well as several illustrators to participate in SCBWI's illustrator mentorship program.
Note that mentorship recipient Julianna Brion won an SCBWI student scholarship (one of three winners), awarded this year for the first time. And she's the recipient of both a portfolio honor and mentorship. Also note that honor winner Joen Deininger was a mentorship winner last year. (The wonderful SCBWI Illustrator Committee programs yield results!)

This is always one of my favorite moments of the conference. There is huge, huge talent in our organization, and it's so much fun to look at all the work people bring to the show. There were more than 200 pieces of art in the show this year--the most ever.  She'll have three appointments with art directors in New York, and the SCBWI will cover her travel expenses (all the way from New Jersey). HONOR AWARDS: Kelly Light  Greg Pizzoli  Laurie Sharp
