1. Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Welcome to my 2011 Ultimate Blog Party post!

How do I describe Brimful Curiosities? Here's an acrostic:

Books
Reading
Informative Posts
Making Memories
Full to the Brim Giveaways
Unique Kids' Crafts
Life and Family

By the way, I'm Janelle, your hostess here at Brimful Curiosities. I'm a stay-at-home mom to two small kids. And, in case you didn't guess by the subtitle, I like to read children's books with my kids and blog about our reading experiences. We also spend time crafting, exploring the outdoors and doing all the normal things families do together like building huge block towers, conducting strange Santa experiments, and turning bananas into ghosts.

One of the regular features here is my Full to the Brim - Kid's Book Giveaway List, published each Friday. If you like children's books and entering giveaways, you'll probably want to take a look at my lists. Additionally, my kids and I often post a fun, book-related craft each week, and I try post a photo for Wordless Wednesday each week. Sometimes I post our favorite reads on the weekends. Other than that, my posts vary ranging from reviews to personal observations.

This is my third year participating in the party, and I've been blogging since 2008. If you want to know more about me you can read my previous party posts 2010 and 2009. Want to correspond via twitter? Find me here: @iambrimful

The Ultimate Blog Party is hosted by 5 Minutes for Mom. Swing by the 5MFM site for more details and to join the party. Thanks for visiting!

2. Yoplait Kids “Strong and Happy” Drawing Contest

Both my kids love yogurt, and I love that yogurt contains the nutrients like calcium, protein and vitamins that their bodies need. Yoplait Kids wants to encourage children to develop healthy eating habits so that they can grow up "Strong and Happy." They are currently sponsoring a “Strong and Happy” Drawing Contest together with 5 Minutes for Mom, and the winners will receive money to pay for classes or educational materials (First Place: $1000; Second Place: $300).

My preschool-aged daughter loves to draw just as much as she loves eating yogurt! Here's her contest entry. In her drawing below, she's happily using her strong muscles to hold a large book over her head, while standing in a field of usually large flowers. Yogurt feeds not only the body but also the mind, helping to grow a strong imagination!

3. A Little Gomer Pyle - 5 Minutes for Mom Elefun & Friends Silly Kids Photo Contest

The first time my grandma saw my son as a baby, she exclaimed, "His eyes are full of fun and mischief!" She got that one right. My little guy can be so darn sweet but there's always a hint of tease and silliness behind his adorable smile.

Seems every time I get the camera out the kids put on their goofiest faces, trying to capture my attention. This summer my daughter wanted me to take a picture of her holding her favorite ball. Not to be outdone, my son stepped right into the photo with this "Gomer Pyle" grin (click to enlarge). I chuckle every time I see the photo...compare it to a photo of Jim Nabors, the real Gomer Pyle for an even bigger chuckle! (Dead-on, am I right?)

5 Minutes for Mom is hosting a Silly Kids Photo Contest sponsored by Hasbro. The prize: $1,000 to use towards classes and/or education material for your child. (Second place gets $300.00). Tomorrow is the last day to enter (10/19 at 3pm Eastern). This picture of "A Little Gomer Pyle" is my entry.
