Did you ever PRETEND to be sound asleep once your parents tucked you into bed?
Who me, never!!!
love the sweet mischievous grin on her face:)
Yes, I did this all the time! Hmmm...sometimes I do it now when they call, but you didn't hear me say that! :) Wonderful illustration and memory!

such a sweet picture. she looks a little like you!
ohh very sweet, the dog is really charming.
I might have done a few times!
I really like the composition of this... I hope you'll add your colors!!
I've been meaning to tell you how much your kind comments have encouraged me. Thank you Ginger, I really appreciate it.
Although I may eventually paint this one, the illustration was done to practice my black and white drawing and line skills as prep for a new chapter book I am beginning to illustrate. The book is about two birds, but I wanted to revive this old sketch just for fun. It is from a book I did about 2 years ago and was one of the sketches the editor did not choose, so I feel it is okay for me to renovate, revise and recycle.
Oh yes! Instant recognition! Another brilliant illo.
great work… thanks for making remember those days…
with 2 buddies with me? no way...too much fun to stay awake! great illio, ginger! :))
i love those naughty eyes.....is the dog pretending, too?
would you do this in color, too?
best regards Ginger!
Yes, I did that, and now my kids do it. In all cases it is/was a flashlight under the covers and a good book. I have a hard time putting an end to it because it's good to see them so excited about books that they want to read.
I like the texture in the quilt and the over all composition is perfect, nice image!
yes, my sister and I could go from giggling to silence in a nano-second !!
Of course I did that! And then years later I pretended to be asleep when my husband came in the room ;)
I love this illo! My dog sleeps under the blankets with her head on the pillow. I took a picture of her the other day on the bed with the cat. Too cute!

Have a great weekend.
I'd be happy to step inside ANY of your creations!
:)
Very cute...and I agree about the people sized chocolates. : )
Let's pretend nothing! Now I've got to search the cupboards for some of those KISSES!
Cute illo and Yum!
YESSSSSSS!!!! I WANNA PLAY PRETEND WITH YOU AND EAT A CHOCOLATE KISS AS BIG AS MY HEAD! adorable, vallie! :))
What a great pretend!
Hi Val...these boxes are amazing!!! I just love the wonder you put into your work...

what a wonderful idea! now I'm hungry for chocolate... And thanks so much for the nice comments on my alice in wonderland illo!

Great colors!

Too cute :p Now, you've got me thinking about chocolate....
All friends will celebrate the sugary chocolate together with their dearest creation here, yummy yummy:)
Your houses work so nicely for packaging, Valerie. It's a really cute illustration.
I've been playing a little game called "guess Val's IF song" I was wrong again, darn it! I felt for sure it would be Jackson Browne's "The Prentender", the Pretenders was an excellent choice. Fred should be putting saltwater taffy in those boxes, or is that just an east coast thing? Love it, love it.
I want to be enough small for walking around your store!.. =D
Great idea! The illustration worked perfectly! I wish I could buy one of those just for the package!
That would not be difficult to pretend at all. These are lovely creations Val. I like the details in the window. You always manage to put something interesting. I like the torquise bra! I can just imagine you doing this and you have a smile in your face.
Yuummm chocolate! Looks great!
like all of your magical places, pretending is toooooo easy.
ps now i can see the magic cottage pulsating with energy and light! can you imagine??!
xo
You do the funnest projects, Val! I just love seeing all your fun packaging...Amazing!
More super terrific work!! Yea!
you really are very talented :-) what a perfect little box for the kids!
This is Brilliant!! SWEEEET!!!
I just ADORE your little boxes. Such a fabulous idea, and sooooo much fun. And such a nice quote on the bottom, too. The next time I'm in Santa Monica, I'll have to stop by!
Better yet, maybe I'll head over to Santa Monica and buy up a bunch of those lil houses of yours, set up a little village and then gorge on all the chocolate, heehee. These are just adorable Val!
That better be fantastic chocolate to be worthy of the fabulous packaging!
This is a magic idea Val, I already see myself among the palms to choose a dress on stand!!!
You have just been caught in a wild game of TAG! You and your work make me want to know even more about you. My site: http://conniemartin.wordpress.com
Bravo. I am standing with you on this one.
You need a "Pretend Hotel" for all your friends and admirers to hang out in! I really think you should consider it a priority to construct one for us!:))
i agree with LDahl! gosh, i can also pretend so i can step in any of your work. you\ve done a really great job with this one. i suppose the owner was very happy and craving for more.
I'd buy the box even if someone else had already eaten the candy! You must have had so much fun with this project.
Dear Valerie, thanks for being part of redeyes. Your work, one of your illustrations will fit well into the story...I am at your service. It's difficult to choose. You decide.
ohhh i am so there! especially for the SUN! i think it is about 20 degrees here today! brrrrr.
lovely work, val!

Thanks for those kind words my friend!.. =)
I would love to have one as a real playhouse!
I wish I lived in one of your paintings. That would be a cool thing if heaven was getting to live where we wanted, yes?
I used to have a couple of troll dolls when I was about 12. I made them clothes and little rooms out of shoe boxes and bits of stuff I found around and scraps of fabric and notions...I would pretend I lived in there. But they were never as sugary magical as the images I find every week here at your place.
valerie… i love seeing your work in 3-d… it is always so lively…
I have a tag for you:

Ironic. It’s usually the female rabbits complaining that the males don’t talk.
I haven’t done Illustration Friday in a long while but I just love this piece and had to respond. So cute and so creative!!! you’re the best.
I dated him years ago!
I like the people rabbits! I think that’s me on the right, although I try really hard to concentrate - I do!
Thanks everybody!
Bill: I have to agree. In this case, I didn’t think it through, worked fast, and just let it happen.
Nice to see you back again, Shawn!
Jazz: Heh!
Jess: Me too. I know you do! : )
