1. Comic: The Paperless Office

I recently received an Apple Watch for my birthday, which I am loving. Not because it keeps me in touch with the digital world -- in fact, I've turned off notifications for most social media and have decided NOT to check Twitter or FB via my Watch. I mainly plan to use it for fitness tracking as well as tactile reminders (it taps me on the wrist if I sit in my office chair too long) to get up and move around every once in a while.

As I hunted around for a place to put the charger, I couldn't help but think how ironic it is that the so-called paperless office often turns into a wire-laden office instead. In my case, I have lots of paper AND wires!

2. Maya Makes a Mess: Messy Eater Contest!

Later this month, Toon Books releases the above easy-to-read comic reader Maya Makes a Mess. Written and illustrated by Rutu Modan, this is something I would have loved to read as an emerging reader.
I love this dynamic spread (and that flowing line of spaghetti!) Rutu Modan is masterful at capturing so many big expressions with spare lines and flat color.

Pop on over to the Maya Makes a Mess Messy Eater contest page for a chance to win your own copy. Just submit a picture of YOUR messy eater. That's my messy little one, on a typical morning I might add - I think Maya would approve of her methods.

4. The Place In Between

In Blue Skye Studio, creativity seems to happen somewhere between MESSY and CLEAN!  If my studio is too messy I cannot work.  If my studio is too clean, I sit there frozen, unable to become inspired.  Soon the sketchbook comes out, the pencil is poised and the wonderful creative process begins!  Before long, ideas begin to flow…. and then, suddenly…..everything is  MESS again!  haha!

6. COUSIN ALBERT COVER

Here's the cover I did for a children's book called "Here Comes Cousin Albert" written by Paul Albert. It's due out sometime next month from BenToby Books, and a bit of the process in getting to the final design. First up is a basic character sketch. Below that is a rough of the cover, with some really quick-really basic colors thrown in via. photoshop. At the bottom is the completed cover in all it's glory.

More news when the book gets released! Be on the lookout!

Alright, enough with the shameless shilling for the day - back to work - or is it better described as avoiding work?

Whatever the case, time to get back to it.

Steve
