Mexican animation producer Anima Estudios has announced production on "Top Cat Begins," a sequel to its 2011 hit "Top Cat: The Movie."

Here it is, the trailer for the hand drawn/CG, Mexican Top Cat movie from Illusion Studios. Don Gato y su Pandilla will open theatrically, and in 3-D (stereoscopic), in September. No word on any U.S., release.

The intriguing new Mexican hand drawn 3D Top Cat movie (Don Gato y su Pandilla) has just started a Facebook page. It’s in Spanish, but the producers are adding some nice looking production images and poster art. It’s worth a “Like”.

As previously reported on Cartoon Brew, coming this fall to cinemas in Mexico: Don Gato (aka Hanna-Barbera’s “Top Cat” or “Boss Cat”), a hand drawn feature in 3D. I wasn’t going to post this teaser as their isn’t much animation in it – but what’s there looks intriguing. And I had so many friends sending me links to it, I figure we gotta give our readers a chance to weigh in:

Anima Studios (Kung Fu Magoo) and Illusion Studios have been producing a hand drawn movie adaptation of Hanna Barbera’s Top Cat (we first reported about it here in June 2010), primarily aimed at the South American market where the character is still incredibly popular. Warner Bros will release the movie – in 3D – to Mexican theaters this September and here’s our first look at the posters (click to see enlarged versions):
