1. SFG: New Work - Vector Characters

Here is a tree trunk character that's been showing up in my moleskine lately. I started it in Illustrator and then headed in to Photoshop for texture.

3. New World

Ok, I actually did this one back in March, but it's the most recent finished work I have, and it has in fact, never been seen online before today. If you're interested in specs, I'll post on A Certain Lack of Focus just as soon as I'm done with this post.

Illo for a story about how some people are trying to get rid of their maids, who now are part of the family (and want all the perks!)

9. New Work, Three up

This is a WIP of spot illustrations for Washington Law and Politics, done three up to save time. The client is happy, but I may need to revisit the center spot as it's not quite on the mark. Initial ideas were done on paper, taken into Painter, tightened up, and now the ink and color will be finished in Painter. Saving a little paper.

10. SFG: New Work

This bodybuilder's seen better days...
I've been getting back into sketching using a BIG cheap sketchbook. Funny how much more more open I am to trying new things when I'm not being precious about working in my moleskine :)

12. SFG: New Work...

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I haven't posted here for quite some time - apologies Jeff - it's now time to get my backside into gear and get on with it. What better time than now - 'New Work', this is an image that follows on from an earlier piece done in March when I was wishing for a good Summer here in the U.K. as last year's was dreadful - unfortunately this year's here in the U.K. has turned out even worse...

...Here it is alongside the earlier mentioned 'Wish' image, using the wishbone from a chicken as the sandal toe post.

13. Trix Are for Kids

I used to think those commercials were so mean! In the second grade I felt worse for the Trix Rabbit than I did for my spelling tutor (pour kid) -- I crack me up. Now I realize those commercials were a public service announcement for the over 19 set.

This rule of caution was one of the half-dozen little digital sketches I whipped together today. Check them all out at She Sure is Sketchy

14. SFG: New Work! The Birth of Merman

I got invited by Scott over at Born Magazine to create the cover for the 2009 Issue #2 a little while back. The theme is alway loosely based around "birth". I had something similar to this in one of my sketchbooks that had been patiently waiting to be released on the world. After a little inking, careful planning of proportions, and strategic placement of hairs, this is what I ended up with. Check out Born here - http://www.bornmagazine.org/

Prints will be available in the RTD $TORE soon too, so sit tight and dream of all the lonely Mermen that will soon need homes.

15. The Green Scene - STL Magazine

Three spot illos done for the July issue at St. Louis Magazine. The first was for a section highlighting St. Louis farmer's markets, the second for a Missouri based electric car company, and the third for a piece on a campus wide bottle ban at Washington University.

17. splats

i haven't posted on here in a millennia & now i post twice in one week, heh. here's a few of my splat paintings which are also being featured right now at INDUSTTREES in Toronto until mid september. here's a bunch more over on my flickr page

basically i start with a splat of paint & then i interpret what i see, great to get juice of creativity flowing. some are more detailed than others, but i prefer the minimalist ones

21. New work: short comic "MetAMORphose"

I just finished my first short comic story recently. It's about the exciting (and quite gross) life of a parasite. Here are the first five pages (out of 14).

...

You can find some other illustrations I did recently on my blog.

22. New Work: Stan Shaw

These are "storyboards" from a recently completed project. Actually they were "presentation boards", used as a presentation for something having nothing to do with film or TV, just a general visual explanation of concepts. I estimate there were a total of 213 frames,(11 scenarios) each averaging 20 minutes to complete. The project lasted about 7 weeks. The top tier shows how the frames were done first as line art , then tones were added digitally. The bottom frame is the very last image completed. Well, okay not really. The client came back and had me do three more frames, but it's a nice visual ending.

25. New Work: Sunday Drive

It was so nice this afternoon, Bear and Rabbit (the very best of friends) decided to go out for a Sunday drive.

Yesterday, I was watching my friend ink a drawing he was doing with an brush pen. I’ve used one before, but never really gave it a full shot. After watching him ink, and because I’ve been in a serious Calvin and Hobbes phase lately (Watterson’s brush work is gorgeous, especially in the later years), I decided I had to give the brush pen another try. So I borrowed a pen, cracked open the moleskin, and drew the first thing that came to mind. Here’s the inks sans color:
