Okay, I know the title of this post is a little cheesy but it true!
Today in the mail I received another of those dreaded manila envelopes, and I knew right away who it was from. Because of my lack of writing time this summer, I hadn't been able to send much out but I did get a chance to send one of my non-fiction pieces to Highlights.
Sure enough, that's who it was from.
However, when I saw the rejection note, it was hard to be upset. If you haven't received a rejection notice from them, they have the type that gives specific reasons why they didn't accept your manuscript.
The reason they marked for me . . . "The story is well written but lacks a fresh approach."
Okay, now given some of the other possible reasons . . . I was pretty happy with mine!
Now I was disappointed, however it was short lived when I opened my email and found a response from the agent I that queried last year. I had sent her a question about sending her another query after my experience at the Davis conference in March.
She told me she'd be happy to see my other queries!
WHOO HOO!!!
Now . . . for the surprise . . .
Two days after I wrote my last post, I received an envelope in the mail from GEMS. In it were two copies of their September 2008 issue of Shine Brightly magazine and a check.
I AM OFFICIALLY A PUBLISHED WRITER!!!!
Surprised? I was . . . and absolutely thrilled!
