In years past I have dreaded summer vacation ever since my 11 yr old finished Kindergarden 6 years ago. Now the first couple of years I was just trying to figure out how to keep my 3 kids entertained. But in 2004, when I started seriously writing again, I became even more frustrated because I had no time to write.
I know most writers just work their way through it and chalk it up to reorganizing their time managment skills. Now I'm organized . . . but not THAT organized.
The past three years have been interesting. My lack of writing time has had more to do with the amount of traveling I've done rather than the amount of bum glue I had. (Thank you Mr. King)
But this summer has been different. Due to financial constraints there have been no camps except for Boy/Girl Scouts going on next month, and as of right now the only long distance trip I'm taking with the family is our usual trek to Wisconsin. On top of that, My oldest is 11 and has the ability to watch his sister and brother (I was babysitting when I was his age!).
So far this summer I have been able to get away to my usual spot to get some work done, but I've come to find it's not just the kids who are taking the vacation . . . my brain is too!
In the past 2 and a half weeks, I have done very little in the way of writing. Granted I have received a lot of feedback through my critique lady and groups, but when I sat down today to work on one of my PB, I felt utterly and completely overwhelmed.
I've decided to resign myself to the fact that I need to spend less time writing and more time reading. I've already started keeping a log of "What I've read this summer" in my other blog. And so far I've been able to keep up with the 'one book a week' rule.
Maybe I need stop thinking so much . . .
Maybe . . .
