Interesting history related to the recent complaints about immigration, from 'The Glasgow Courier' newspaper, 1830:
"In our opinion, the Irish have as much right to come to our country to better their lives as the Scots and English have to go to Ireland or any other part of Britain for the same reason. Let us hear no more complaints about the influx of Irish having a bad effect on Scotland unless it is to do something about tackling the problems which causes the emigration."
As a product of that Irish emigration to Scotland myself it would be great to see the same type of liberal, understanding and realistic attitude nowadays, something like:

Write something about Daredevil or Iron man's new whatever blah blah...and you get dozens of comments. Write about something that affects the very basic situation of us comic book creators, our ability to life decent standards of life and pay the rent, to create what we want without bosses telling us what to do, to have freedom to do good comics... and you get 2 or 3 responses. I have my theories as to WHY this is a general habit (that rather easy shallow topics are far more popular than more meaty, important issues). But I would be interested to hear the views of other's please.

It's a mostly unexamined way of thinking that we ask:
'How can WE adjust to the market?'
'How can WE adjust to the market?'
The solution to this type of thing, that we 99% ignore, is the opposite question:
'How can the market adjust to the US?'
'How can the market adjust to the US?'
If this market is causing so much trouble, closing down newspapers like this, or schools, hospitals, publishers, locals shops, etc…then isn’t it bloody useless?
We should be thinking far more about how to change the marketplace system for something that works better, and allows us to have all this good stuff.
Which we ARE capable of doing.

He would turn do the chance to make Britain a much better place, and let the Tories make life even worse for millions of ordinary people for another 5 years? What a bad idea.
What's wrong with adding the 2nd and 3rd biggest parties together if it adds up to a bigger slice of votes than the 1st one got? (presuming that happens). It adds up to a greater mandate, so - fine! And, apart from the big issue of Scottish independence, Labour and the SNP are pretty close on most other views. So there is no great difference in principles.

We are not the selfish, greedy, individuals that capitalism likes to con us into thinking we are. That stuff is in us, but as this article looks at, scientific research has indicated that 'Compassion, cooperation, and community are key to our survival'.
"...our genes and our brains have evolved to be compassionate, to cooperate, and to foster community...Hopefully, the science presented here reinforces what we already know intuitively. Being altruistic and kind to one another benefits us all."
A rare example of a calm and intelligent comment under a newspaper article: "Last year it was a case of Scotland is an integral part of the Union and it's voice will be heard in Westminster. Now it's a case of how dare those Scots vote for a party which will use that voice! "

Personally, I'm very pleased about the idea of a large chunk of lovely Scottish left wingers helping move the UK towards a more progressive direction.
