مشاعر الأهل والطفل المتضاربة 

يعتبر اليوم الأوّل للطفل في الحضانة /الروضة حدثًا هامًّا وخطوة أساسية بالنسبة للطفل والأهل معًا.

وقد يُمضي الأهل شهورًا وهم يزورون رياض الأطفال المختلفة بحثًا عن المدرسة التي يعتقدون أنها الأفضل لطفلهم.

وعندما يقع إختيار الأهل  على الحضانة /الروضة المناسبة لطفلهم يبدأ شعورهم بالقلق والتوتر لمجرد وضع اسمه على لائحة الانتظار ولكنهم سرعان ما يبتهجون عند قبوله وتسجيله فيها.

وبقلوب مرتعشة يغدق الأهل وصفًا رائعًا عن المدرسة على مسامع طفلهم ويحاولون إقناعه بأنه سيكون سعيدًا بينما هم في نفس الوقت يحاولون إقناع أنفسهم بذلك.

وأخيرًا يحين موعد اليوم الكبير المنتظر وهنا من المهم أن يلاحظ الآباء أن تكيف الأطفال مع محيطهم الجديد سيكون مختلفًا بناء على اختلاف شخصياتهم.

يتقبل بعض الأطفال هذا التغيير في نمط حياتهم بفرح وبعضهم يحتاج إلى عدّة أيّام كي يشعروا أن هذه البيئة الجديدة مناسبة لهم بينما يحتاج البعض الآخر إلى وقت أطول ربما يمتد إلى عدة أسابيع للتأقلم مع الوضع الجديد.

 أسباب رفض الطفل الذهاب إلى المدرسة

يمكن أن يكون قلق الانفصال عن الوالدين السبب الرئيسي لرفض الطفل للمدرسة الجديدة ومما يزيد من توتره التعود على بيئة جديدة والحاجة للاعتماد على موظفي رعاية غرباء والتواجد وسط مجموعة صاخبة من الناس.

 ولكن اكثر ما يقلق الطفل يعود إلى خوف الطفل الغريزي من أن أمه ستتركه ولن تعود لأخذه.  

نصائح لتهيئة أطفالكم للمدرسة

 

·        تحدّثوا مع أطفالكم عن المدرسة وشاركوهم بقراءة قصص عن أطفال يذهبون إلى المدرسة والأشياء التي يقومون بها هناك. القصص طريقة رائعة للتعامل بشكل غير مباشر مع المشاعر المختلطة للطفل. 

 

 

·        زوروا المدرسة مع الطفل مرات عديدة واطلبوا الإذن للبقاء معه فترة قصيرة ليكوّن فكرة عن المدرسة ويألف المكان بشكل أفضل.

 

·        اطلبوا من المسؤولين في المدرسة إعطاءكم أسماء بعض الأطفال في صف طفلكم واتصلوا بأهلهم كي تعرّفوهم على بعضم بعضًا لأنّ رؤية الطفل لأطفال يعرفهم عند بدء المدرسة ستشعره بالاطمئنان.

 

·        إذا كان الطفل في رعاية أحد الوالدين دون الآخر يجب تعويده بشكل تدريجي على الابتعاد عنه/ عنها وذلك بتركه مع أحد الأقرباء أو الأصدقاء وتبادل أوقات اللعب مع الأصدقاء.

 

·        عرّفوا طفلكم على مديرة المدرسة والمعلمين واتركوا الفرصة له كي يتبيّن العلاقة الودية التي تجمعكم بهم. نادوهم بأسمائهم أمامه مرات عديدة.

 

 

·        اسردوا لطفلكم كل الأشياء الممتعة التي سيقوم بها في المدرسة عن طريق اللعب وباستخدام ألعابه فمثلاً أخبروه بما سيفعله "دبدوب" في المدرسة وأكّدوا له أن أمه تركته لفترة محددة ثم عادت لاصطحابه إلى البيت. 

 

·        وأخيرًا سيتغلب الطفل المستعد والمهيّأ من قبل والديه بسرعة على تحفظاته وقلقه وسوف يستمتع بالمدرسة بكل يسر وسهولة.

2. مرحى للآباء

يحتفل العالم بعيد الأب في شهر حزيران من كل عام. و"عيد الأب" احتفال حديث نسبياً فقد جرت العادة على الاحتفال بالأم لتكريمها اعترافا بتضحياتها . وقد تم إدراج عيد الأب كعيد اجتماعي رسمي مثل عيد الأم  بعد أن احتج الآباء وخبراء العائلة. وقد يكون السبب هو الحاجة إلى إلقاء الضوء على أهمية الدور الذي يلعبه الأب في حياة أطفاله والذي تغير بشكل جذري مع تسارع الحياة وكثرة متطلباتها.

لم يعد دور الأب يقتصر على الدعم المالي للعائلة فظروف الحياة الحالية تحتم على معظم الناس اشتراك الأم والأب في العمل خارج البيت لإعالة العائلة وتوفير احتياجاتها. وبذلك  تغير دور الأب تدريجياً وأصبح مشاركًا في تربية الأطفال ولاعبًا مهمًا وأساسياً في حياتهم اليومية.
وفي عالمنا العربي  يشارك بعض الآباء  أيضاً هذه الأيام بدور رئيسي وفعال في أمور العائلة والبيت، فهم يقومون بإطعام أطفالهم واللعب معهم والقراءة لهم قبل النوم وحتى في تغيير الحفاظات (الفوط) المتسخة عند الحاجة. وقد اكتشف هؤلاء الآباء أن الاهتمام اليومي والحميم بالأطفال ليس كله تعبًا وإزعاجًا بل هناك متعة حقيقية لا تضاهيها متعة وهي التواصل مع الأبناء.

 ولكن بالرغم من ذلك ما تزال بعض فئات المجتمع تنظر إلى مشاركة الأب في رعاية الأطفال نظرة سطحية وتعتبرها ضمن ثقافة العيب ففي نظرهم أن هذه المهمة تقتصر على الأم فقط وإذا شارك الأب بها مضطراً فمن الأفضل أن يكون ذلك في السر ودون علم أحد.

قد نستطيع أن نعتبر الأطفال الذين يشارك الوالدان في تربيتهم أكثر حظًا من غيرهم من الأطفال الذين لا يحظون بنفس الرعاية والاهتمام. فهم ينشأون أكثر ثقة بالنفس وأكثر فضولاً لاستكشاف محيطهم ويستطيعون اتخاذ مواقف صحيحة في الوقت المناسب ولا يستسلمون للصعوبات.

3. Happy Fathers' Month!

Nowadays many young Fathers in the Arab world play a more hands on role in the family. They do not mind changing dirty diapers, feeding the kids, playing with them and reading to them before they sleep. Sadly still in many segments of our society this is perceived as عيب or  shameful.

The prevalent belief to this day is that day care of children is the mother’s job. If these Dads grudgingly help they would make sure that it is done in secret when no one can see them.

Children who are lucky enough to have both parents involved in their upbringing grow up to be more self confident, curious about things around them and with a “can do” attitude much needed in our world today.

Studies have shown that when the Father spends quality time with children playing, reading stories or just talking about things around them, the children grow up to be happy successful and well adjusted adults. When fathers spend time playing with their children they forge a bond of love between them. Children enjoy the boisterous rough and tumble play which Dads are good at. This play is important because it not only entertains children but also teaches them how to deal with the world around them.

More importantly, when Fathers acknowledge the range of different emotions their children have from fear to sadness, anger, hate, children feel safe and develop better emotional knowledge and will be able to express their emotions better and to control their behavior.

Fathers play an important role in the lives of their children and we, as publishers of children books, need to reflect that in our books. We can do that subtly and consistently by showing Dads in caretaking roles so that young children can subconsciously absorb and accept the role of father as a partner in day to day caring for kids and not just the traditional role of the breadwinner.

We at Salwa Publishers want to celebrate Fathers during the month of June by highlighting the interaction of Dads with the characters of our books.

So we say Happy Father’s month!

4. أنا و "جدّتي نفيسة"... بقلم تغريد النجار

لطالما راودتني فكرة الكتابة عن جدة مختلفة ومميزة....ومن وقت لآخر كنت أحاول العودة إلى الفكرة فأقلبها من هنا وهناك ثم لا ألبث أن أتركها لانشغالي بشيء آخر.

ولكن الفكرة تحولت إلى مشروع كتاب حقيقي عند انتقالنا إلى مكتب دار السلوى الجديد.  

كانت مسؤولية تصميم المكتب تقع على عاتق سلوى بصفتها الناشرة ومديرة الدار. 

أرادت سلوى أن يكون للمكتب مظهر مختلف عن مظهر المكاتب العادية التي يملأ أثاثها الأسواق لأنها كانت تبحث عن قطع أثاث فريدة ومميزة تعكس شخصيتها وروحها في المكان. لذلك قررت الذهاب إلى سوق السلع المستعملة والخردة في وسط البلد للبحث عن قطع أثاث مختلفة للمكتب وربما للبحث عن طاولة للكتابة. كنت أتساءل في نفسي ماذا يمكن أن تجد هناك؟

ولكنها عادت ومعها مكتب وكرسي يلائمان بعضهما كثيرا، وقد وجدت كل واحد منهما في محل مختلف عن الآخر وبعد القيام بتصليحات وتلميع لهما، ظهر الكرسي والمكتب كتحفتين فنيتين رائعتين.

كانت هذه الشعلة التي أوقدت الحماس في نفسي ودفعتني لتجميع أفكاري السابقة في قصة "جدتي نفيسة" فظهرت شخصية الجدة الفنانة, المليئة بالحيوية والنشاط والتي تشارك حفيدها ماجد بحيثيات حياتها اليومية.

انسابت الأفكار بسهولة وسرعة وتحولت إلى القصة التي كنت أريدها وخرجت قصة

   "جدتي نفيسة" إلى الحياة.

5. The Launch Event of “Jaddati Nafeesa”

Under the patronage of Princess Wijdan and in collaboration with the National Art Museum in Jebel al Waibdeh, "Salwa Publishers" launched the story of “ Grandma Nafeesa” , one of its latest publications. The picture book story is written by Taghreed Najjar and illustrated by Lebanese artist Maya Fidawi.

Princess Wijdan started the event by addressing the children in the audience emphasizing the importance of reading and books in their lives.

Taghreed Najjar then proceeded with a general presentation about Grandmothers. The message was that no matter how different Grandmas are, they all share one thing and that is the love they have for their Grandchildren. The invited Grandmas were surprised when they found out that the presentation was all about them and their grandchildren. A few of them laughingly wondered out loud where we got hold of their pictures with their grandchildren.

"Salwa Publishers" had secretely colluded with the daughters to send pictures of the Grandmas showing the bond that they have with their grandchildren and the many different things they do with them.

The last grandmother to be introduced by her Grandson Majed was “Teta Nafeesa”.

The story is about an artist Grandma who spends a fun day with her grandson Majed. The story is set in Amman and some of the activities happen in Jebel Waibdeh at the National art Musuem.

It was a privilege to read the story in this amazing and lovely place and to have Princess Wijdan herself an artist Grandma as a patron.

6. Al Salwa Publishers participate in Abu Dhabi Book Fair 2012

Al Salwa Publishers will be participating at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair 2012 with a fresh new look. They have recently launched their new brand and colors to reflect the creative modern spirit of the Publishing House.

The new logo, recently revealed, kept the image of the “ Salwa” bird but made the bird more child-friendly with a pixel colored wing to represent the Publishing House’s interest in publishing books for children in all formats available.

Participation at The Abu Dhabi Book fair has become an important part on the agenda of Salwa Publishers. Last year they launched their first App at the Abu Dhabi Book fair. This year they will be launching four new books.

Al Salwa Publishing House is happy and proud to be launching its first preteen book “Raghda’s Hat” at the Book Fair.  

Salwa Shakhshir the General Manager of Salwa Publishers said, “It is a genre that is sorely missing in Arab Children Literature and needs our attention as publishers. We need to have original Arabic books available to children for all the different stages in their lives. We hope to be publishing more books for this age group.”

Salwa Publishers will be participating in the “Signature” program newly set up by Abu Dhabi Book Fair this year, where Taghreed Najjar will be reading one of her latest books “Jude’s New Bicycle” on Thursday from 10:30 - 11:30 at the Tent Hall 10k06. While the book signing will be held at the Signature Corner, Hall 12E52

On another note two of Al Salwa books have been accepted by the Rights committee at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair and will be available for review by interested publishers wishing to buy the rights. Salwa Publishers will be available at stand no Hall9 H46 at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair.

7. دار السلوى تشارك في معرض أبو ظبي للكتاب 2012

تشارك دار السلوى في معرض أبو ظبي للكتاب لعام 2012 بحلة جديدة. قامت الدار بإطلاق شعار جديد وبألوان جديدة ليعكس الروح المتطورة والخلاقة للدار،يحتفظ الشعار الجديد بصورة طائر السلوى ولكن بشكل أكثر قربا للطفولة وبجناح منقط وملون على شكل "بكسل " يعكس توجه الدار الحالي لنشر كتب متنوعة للأطفال في كافة وسائط النشر المتاحة.

 

صارت المشاركة في معرض أبوظبي للكتاب بندًا لا يغيب عن أجندة أعمال دار السلوى في كل عام، ففي العام الماضي أطلقت دار السلوى أول تطبيقاتها البرمجية في المعرض. وفي هذا العام سوف تقوم الدار بإطلاق أربعة كتب جديدة

 تفخر دارالسلوى هذا العام بإطلاق أول كتاب موجّه لأطفال سنوات المراهقة الأولى "قبعة رغدة

 وعن هذه القصة تقول سلوى الشخشير، مديرة دار السلوى: "هذه الفئة من الكتب غائبة تمامًا عن أدب الأطفال العربي وهي تحتاج إلى عنايتنا نحن الناشرين. نحن بحاجة لكتب أطفال عربية أصيلة (غير مترجمة) تتوجه للأطفال في مراحل حياتهم المختلفة، ونحن نأمل أن نتمكن من نشر المزيد من الكتب لهذه الفئة العمرية 

 ستشارك دار السلوى في برنامج التوقيع الذي أضيف حديثًا هذا العام، حيث ستقوم الكاتبة "تغريد النجار" بقراءة قصتها الجديدة: "جود ودراجتها الجديدة" يوم الخميس من الساعة العاشرة والنصف إلى الحادية عشرة والنصف في قاعة الخيمة

8. إطلاق طائر السلوى ... قصة شعار دار السلوى

أتيت من عالم الدعاية والإعلان إلى عالم النشر لذا كان أول ما أردت فعله عندما بدأت العمل في "دار السلوى" قبل عامين هو أن أغيّر صورة العلامة التجارية و أجدد بموقع دار النشر الالكتروني. ولكن لحسن الحظ انخرطت سريعا في كل جوانب عملية النشر واكتشفت أن عليّ أن أتعلم الكثير عن هذه الصناعة. وعندما أقول "لحسن الحظ" فأنا لا أعني أن إخراج شعار وعلامة تجارية مميزة للدار ليس مهما، ولكني محظوظة لأنني انتظرت بعض الوقت لأباشر بالموضوع. فتعمقت معرفتي بكل ما يتعلق بدار السلوى وبماذا تمثل وإلى أين تتجه.

 

عندما كانت تغريد النجار، مؤسسة الدار، تبحث عن اسم لدار النشر قبل 16 سنة لم يكن هذا بالأمر الهين. ولكن عندما لاحت فكرة اسم "السلوى"

9. Setting our bird free ...the story of our logo

Coming from an advertising background, the first thing I wanted to do when I started working in publishing two years ago was to change the brand image, and website. Fortunately, I immediately got involved in every aspect of publishing and found out that I had a lot to learn first about the industry. I say fortunately not because branding is not important, but because even though I thought I knew what our brand stood for and where it should go, I know so much more now, and I’m glad it took its due time.

Searching for a name for the publishing house 16 years ago was not an easy task for Taghreed Najjar the founder, but when the idea of  “Al Salwa” came up, it seemed to hit all the right notes.

 “Al Salwa” is the name of a bird, a great symbol for a publishing house since many established houses are well known for their bird logos like Puffin, Penguin … to name a few.  “Al Salwa” bird is a kind of quail that has some very unique characteristics like a feather on the top of its’ head, and a distinct mark around its’ eye. It lives in the Arab peninsula where our roots are, which emphasized the message about the importance of original Arabic content for children.

 The word “ Salwa” in Arabic also means solace, and books entertain, educate and give us solace.

On a personal note, Salwa, is also the name of Taghreed’s mother (my Grandmother) who died before her time, and was an aspiring writer herself. She was very much interested in early childhood development and psychology, and was an inspiration to her youngest daughter, Taghreed, who didn’t know she would grow up to be a children book writer, let alone establish her own publishing house. And last but not least, Salwa is my name, the Founder’s eldest daughter who never thought she was going to get into publishing either, but 14 years later found herself a publisher and loving it!

 The old logo of “Al Salwa” bird was designed by Iraqi artist Lamia Abdul Saheb. At that time, it gave the publishing house the seriousness it needed for its difficult mission.

It was important for us to keep the bird in our logo, but the old bird was a very stoic serious bird who, framed in a square box, seemed to be stuck in a cage somehow. It did not fit the new spirit of our Publishing House. We wanted to set “Al Salwa” bird free, and to re-establish that we are a publishing house whose main focus is to publish children content, in all formats and not just physical books.

عالم التطبيقات عالم جديد ومثير

الدخول في عالم التطبيقات الالكترونية مثير ومخيف في آن واحد لدور النشر العربية والعالمية. وطبعا هذا هو الحال عندما يخرج الإنسان مما يسمى ب "دائرة الراحة" وهي دائرة المألوف والمعروف ليكتشف الجديد في العام الماضي قمنا في "دار السلوى/ ميديا بلس " بإنتاج أول تطبيق قصصي لنا بعنوان " أي شيء" وها نحن نطلق تطبيقنا الثاني لقصة " مغامرة في المزرعة"

دخولنا في عالم التطبيقات الألكترونية لا يعني أننا فقدنا الإهتمام في الكتاب الورقي بل بالعكس فإننا نؤمن بأهميته ودوره الأساسي في عملنا وننظر للتطبيق الالكتروني للكتاب كطريقة  أخرى لنعرف الطفل على الكتاب ولنشجعه على المطالعة. .

فالأطفال مختلفون بتوجهاتهم وطرقهم الفردية للتعلم.وقد أصبحت الألواح الذكية جزءاً من حياة الكثير من الأطفال في العالم أجمع وفي العالم العربي أيضا. وقد وجدنا أنه من المهم جداً أن نتواجد في هذا المجال الواسع بتطبيقات مميزة تجمع ما بين الترفيه والتثقيف وأحببنا أن نقدم للطفل العربي خيارات أخرى ليشغل بها وقته غير الألعاب العنيفة والسريعة والتي أكثر ما تجذب انتباه الأطفال..

 أحببنا أن يكون التطبيق ثرياً ومتكاملاً فيما يقدمه للطفل لذلك لم نقدم القصة فقط بل أضفنا أنشطة تدور حول القصة مثل الأغنية الطريفة, واللعبة المسلية والفكرة الفنية البسيطة. وقد قصدنا من تقديم الفكرة الفنية التأكيد على الأنشطة التي تحتاج إلى استخدام العضلات الصغيرة عند الأطفال مثل القص والتلوين واللصق

 

 تطبيق القصة يمكن أن يقرأه أحد الوالدين للطفل وفي حالة انشغال الأهل يمكن أن يستمع الطفل للقصة تقرأ له عن طريق قارىء متمرس وطبعاً يمكن أن يقرأ الطفل القصة لوحد.

"How I learned to ride a bicycle"

The 10th story from the Halazone series "Jude’s new bicycle" is out now. In this story Jude faces a challenge. She gets a new bike and needs to learn how to balance on the two-wheeler, without the training wheels. It does not help that her friend Sami makes fun of her and shows off his skills in front of her. What is Jude to do?

 Many of you may still remember how daunting it was to learn balancing on the two-wheeler bicycle. It may have been a breeze for some but for me it was a traumatic experience. The memory of how I learnt to ride a bicycle is still very vivid in my mind and may have been an inspiration for the story.

As a child I was shy and scared of many things. My siblings and I spent our summers in Ramallah in a street called “Belly of the Wind”.  In those days our house was at the end of town and so very few cars passed in our street and it became our backyard.

One day to our joy Father brought home a bicycle as a present for us to share. After a few spills and falls my brothers and sisters and our next-door neighbors got the hang of riding the bicycle. All of them succeeded except for me. No matter how hard I tried I kept falling. My siblings gave up on me in disgust and went about their business. I could not stand the “shame” of being the only one not able to balance on the bike so I decided to practice on my own. I took the bicycle out to the street and started practicing. I fell a few times but kept getting up and trying again. It was easier without the impatient shouts of my siblings, yalla Taghreed! It’s easy, look at me! Etc etc. After a few falls and spills -an incredible thing happened- I could balance! I actually started moving forward on the downhill side of the street. Right in front of me was a peasant woman carrying a straw tray with fruits on her head. I was heading straight towards her and realized that I had learnt to balance but had no idea how to stop the bicycle or make it swerve. I bumped straight into the poor woman who fell down with her straw tray and all her fruits. She was understandably mad and started shouting at me. I was so scared that I left the bicycle in the middle of the street and ran home. The angry woman ran after me shouting and threatening me with all sorts of dire consequences.

I hid behind my aunt Samira who was looking after us at the time. My Aunt calmed the lady down and offered to pay for the fruit. After the lady left, my aunt scolded me and made me promise to be more careful riding the bike. Little did she know what a big achievement riding the bike had been for me.

Although I felt sorry for the poor lady but to this day I still remember the moment of pure joy when I realized that I had finally succeeded, that I had joined the elite community of people who can ride a

 جود ودرّاجتها الجديدة،  هي القصة العاشرة من سلسلة الحلزونة والتي تدور حول جود وأخيها الصغير زيد واختها الكبرى جمانة. تعالج السلسلة مواضيع من وحي الحياة اليومية للأطفال. وفي هذه القصة نشارك جود فرحتها بدراجتها الجديدة التي حصلت عليها بمناسبة عيد ميلادها ولكن الدراجة الجديدة بعجلتين وعلى جود أن تتعلم التوازن عليها. ومما يعقد الأمور أكثر هو صديقها سامي الذي يفاخر أمامها بقدراته على ركوب الدراجة بعجلتين ويستهزأ منه

 ما زلت أذكر أول دراجة تعلمت قيادتها وقد تكون هذه الذكرى هي نواة لقصة "جود ودراجتها الجديدة" كنت حينها في السابعة من عمري و كنا نسكن في مدينة رام لله في شارع اسمه شارع "بطن الهواء" و في ذلك الوقت كان  قليلا ما يمر به سيارات فتحول لملعب لنا وجيراننا

 

فرح الجميع بالدراجة التي أحضرها لنا الوالد والتي كان علينا المشاركة بها. وبسرعة تعلم أخوتي ركوب الدراحة وحاولوا تعليمي ولكنني كنت " خويفة" فتركوني وحدي 

 حز بنفسي أن كل اخوتي وأولاد الجيران تعلموا التوازن على الدراجة إلا أنا فقررت بيني وبين نفسي أن أحاول أن أتمرن عليها وحدي. وبينما إخوتي منشغلون بأمور أخرى أخذت الدراجة إلى الشارع أمام بيتنا وحاولت التوازن عليها

13. "Nashma & Jassem" gets a new look

 

"Nashma and Jassem", is the second book from our classic series "Best Friends" to be published in its new form.

The size of the new book is bigger and the cover is made from Flexi, a material perfect for children books. Flexi has the sturdiness of the hardcover book and the lightness of the soft cover book.

The new illustrations of "Nashma and Jassem" are delightful. They are executed by Iraqi artist Zainab Faidi known to her friends as "Dabby". Zainab's work reflects her empathy with the characters of the story expressively reflected in her illustrations.

When I wrote this story in the late 80s we were living in Amman in the Shmeisani district next to the Bird Garden which also doubled as Amman's "Zoo". Close to our house was an empty lot of land which was occupied by wandering bedoins who set up their tents and planted the land with okra or tomatoes. One of the bedouin children was a cheeky girl called Shaima. She would regularly visit our house with her two younger siblings to ask for dry bread for their goats. I would also give her food, clothes, toys etc.

Shaima was the inspiration for the Bedoin girl in the story but when I came to name her in my story I mixed up the names (very typical of me as those who know me will attest!) and wrote Nashma instead of Shaima and that is how the seed of the story was planted.

"Nashma and Jassem" is a story about a young camel named Jassem, who runs away to explore the city he has heard so much about. Jassem gets into all sorts of trouble in the city and ends up in the zoo where Nashma finds him and takes him back home to the desert.

We hope that you and your children will enjoy reading the story of two very good friends, Nashma and Jassem.

في النسخة الجديدة تغير شكل الكتاب و أصبح   مربعاً وأكبر حجماً وقد اخترنا تغليفا جديدا يستخدم لكتب الأطفال وهو مصنوع من مادة "الفلكسو" وهي مادة تجمع ما بين صلابة التغليف الكرتوني وخفة التغليف الورقي

 

قامت الرسامة العراقية زينب فيضي بتنفيذ الرسومات، ونجحت زينب بالتعبير ببراعة وحساسية عن المشاعر المختلفة في القصة وأبدعت بتصويرها لسكون الصحراء وجمالها، و حركة المدينة وصخبها

  

عند الحديث عن أي قصة كتبتها أحب دائماً أن أحكي لكم من أين استوحيت فكرة القصة وفي الحقيقة هذا سؤال يسألني إياه الأطفال كثيراً. كيف كتبت القصة؟ من أين حصلت على فكرة القصة؟

17. دار السلوى تقدم قصص "سلسلة أحسن صديق" بحلة جديدة

سلسلة أحسن صديق هي أقدم سلسلة كتبتها والتي قامت دار السلوى لاحقاً بنشرها. عندما كتبت هذه السلسلة في أوخر الثمانينيات أوائل التسعينيات كان أدب الأطفال في الأردن في بداياته    , و كان يعتمد بمجمله على مبادرات فردية هنا وهناك. معظم الكتب المتوفرة في المكتبات والمدارس آنذاك كانت إما مترجمة أو تعكس مجتمعات عربية شقيقة مثل مصر والعراق


ومن المعترف به أن كل بلد يجب أن يحظى بأدب أطفال محلي يعكس ملامحه الخاصة والمكان والزمان والشخوص ومن ثم يمكن للأدب المحلي أن ينطلق إلى رحاب العالم الواسع. فالطفل يستأنس عندما يرى بيوتاً تشبة بيوته وشخصيات ملامحها مألوفة مثلاً يرى شرطياً بلباس شرطة بلاده وأسواقاً تشبه أسواقه. وكان هذا التوجه يهمني فاتبعته في "سلسلة أحسن صديق" فهناك قصة عن طفلة بدوية, عن بائع كعك يصيح .... كعك كعييييك, عن كوفية سحرية, عن خروف العيد..إلخ

 

وقد قمت بكتابة هذه السلسلة وأنا أعمل كمعلمة للصف الأول الابتدائي في مدرسة عمان الوطنية وهي مدرسة خاصة في عمان. كنت أكتب القصص وأدخل أسماء الأطفال اللذين كنت أعلمهم في القصص  ذاتها . تلامذتي الآن كبروا وبعضهم أصبح عنده أطفالاً ولكن ما زال لكل واحد منهم معزة خاصة في قلبي.

 

وقد شجعتني إدارة المدرسة أن أستمر في كتابة القصص وأن أقدمهم للأطفال كقراءة خارجية. كنت أكتب القصة بخط يدي وأرسمها ثم أقوم بسحبها على ماكينة "الستنسيل" المستخدمة في ذلك الوقت وبعدها كنت أقوم بتوزيع قصة لكل طالب ليقرأها ويلونها. وكمعلمة كنت أعرف معرفة وثيقة مقدرة الأطفال في القراءة فاستخدمت أسلوب الترداد  المحبب لهذه المرحلة العمرية وهذا الأسلوب الأدبي للأطفال يسهل عملية القراءة. وقد اكتشفت من خلال عملي كمعمل�

18. Al Salwa’s "Classics" get a new look

The first series of books I wrote was "Best Friends' series" which consisted of 12 story books. This was in the late 80’s early 90’s. I wrote the books while teaching the first grade in a local private school (ANS). Every couple of weeks I would illustrate a story in coloring book style and print out a hand written story for each kid using a stencil machine (photocopying machines were expensive then and stencil machines were used widely in schools). The names of the children in the stories were the names of the children in my class. They are all grown up now, many of them married with children of their own!


The school was very encouraging and supportive of my efforts since I used the stories as outside reading material for the kids. The kids enjoyed reading and coloring the stories because they felt the stories were about them. As their teacher, I made sure that the text was easy for them to read. I used predictable language formats with a lot of fun repetition. I still remember the excitement and thrill children felt when they could read a whole story all by themselves.


My experience as a first grade teacher was invaluable to me as a writer. I still remember the enjoyment my students got out of story books, and felt that if only we –adults- could just harness this excitement and build on it, we would have a nation of readers in no time.

 

When I wrote this series, I wanted it to have a local flavor while still addressing current children issues. There were very few local books, and the books available to children in Jordan were either translated or reflected other Arab countries mainly Egypt and Iraq. So I felt a great need for children in Jordan to have local children books that reflected their surroundings and society.

 

I got very positive feedback on my story books from kids, parents and the school administration who encouraged me to try to publish the books. Since at that time in Jordan there were no publishing houses that were ready to publish children books, I knew that I had to do most of the work myself if I wanted to convince any publisher to accept my book for publication. I started looking for a professional illustrator. There were established artists in Jordan but they had never illustrated for children and had no interest to. It took me almost two years to find what I was looking for during a visit to a charity bazaar. It was there that  I finally met the illustrator I was looking for.

19. Our First Story Application “Anything”

20. Al Salwa Books to launch their first story App at the Abu Dhabi Bookfair

Al Salwa Publishing House in partnership with the award winning digital agency Media Plus Jordan, has published its’ first iPhone & iPad application entitled “Anything "أي شيء, based on their 2010 picture book with the same title.


"Anything" is the first of a series of seven Arabic picture book Apps adapted from the popular lift-the-flap "Goldfish Series" published by Al Salwa Publishing House, authored by renowned writer Taghreed Najjar, illustrated by Syrian artist Nadine Kaadan and narrated by Hind Hamed.


Taghreed Najjar will have daily story reading sessions at the creativity centre at the Book Fair where she will read a number of her stories to school children visiting the fair.


The Book Fair will be a chance to show case the App to parents and children at the Bookfair.


Salwa Shakhshir of Al Salwa Publishing House said, “We believe that encouraging children to read requires us to publish our books in the highest possible quality, and in all possible media available.”


 “Anything أي شيء book App will soon be available for download from iTunes to iPhone, iPod and iPad.

21. Day 4 Publishers Training Abu Dhabi : Quality Control, Enhanced E-books

Our final day of training focused on the importance of quality control and how important it was to not only check the content of the e-books to make sure it has the right content, but to also check it on different devices to see how content looks and flows on each.

Peter [Balis, Director of Digital Content Sales for John Wiley & Sons] wanted to show us an example of how computers can make a mistake in programming, as it doesn’t understand the content. So he wrote sentence, but misspelled one word…

“You’re obviously not doing the QC at Wiley!” joked Ibrahim Al Rajab (From Al Muthanna Publishing/ Iraq).

Suleiman Adebowale (From Amalion Publishing/ Senegal) interrupted by pointing that some of the houses in the UK use offshore companies in China to typeset their material. After seeing the bulk of work from the UK, he noted, one company decided to give their workers English lessons but the end result wasn’t what they expected. The work handed in from China was just horrible, because the workers took it upon themselves to edit some of the content that they now felt they understood!

The number one lesson from all this: you don’t have to know the language to typeset content, but you sure have to know it to do QC!

Peter then went on to discuss he amazing growth in mobile phones internet usage and to highlight how its impact on all aspects of economic life – information, that we as content providers, need to take into consideration.

We then looked at various books that were turned into enhanced e-books. Some of the examples were just unbelievably amazing, even more so in the realm of education.

Peter asked if we remembered the clear plastic pages from our old biology books that each illustrated a layer of the human body, such that we saw the veins, then arteries, then tissue…etc. All this and much more is now done digitally, completely transforming the way we learn, making it attractive, informative and much more interactive than it ever was as a typical print book.

Another example was that of an enhanced e-book written by Philip Pullman, which offered a video of the author talking about the inspiration behind the making of the book, something that helped develop a personal connection with the reader.

After seeing these great examples, Kassem Al Tarras (From Pioneers-Al Rowad Publishing House/Syria) wondered aloud at what point are these enhanced e-books no longer actually books? A very good point I thought, because really these books are now more of a journey, a complete audio visual experience rather than mere books.

Peter reiterated that all these additions are options, and that at the end of the day the consumer has the option to just read the book like a normal digital e-book or choose to take advantage of all the features on offer.

The advantage of learning all this new information now and in bulk, Peter said, is that we have an opportunity to work on things from start to finish with much more efficiency and greater knowledge because we’re learning it from people who have already gone through a lot of trial and error. This is not to say that the system is perfectly in place now, but we really do have an advantage if we take all of what we’ve learned, and all that has been done so far, and adapt it to our content and our books. We will not only catch up, but also have a greater chance to create something new.

I can’t believe it has only been five days. It has felt like a couple of weeks, learning all this new information and meeting all these wonderful people in the program. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss that something so nice was already over so quickly. 22. Day 3 Publishers Training Abu Dhabi : All About Digital

Ok … I seriously don’t know where to begin! All I know is that I left the classroom today with a cloud on top of my head, and the only thing I could think of was … I have SOOOOO much work to do when I get back home! It’s great… I am not complaining at all …it’s just a LOT of information to digest all at once and I am so glad Peter is staying on till tomorrow for Day 2 of Digital Publishing.

The class started out with Peter Balis, Director of Digital Content Sales for John Wiley & Sons, saying in a very slow and pronounced manner to make sure we understood the weight of what he is saying … “the digital revolution is already here, if you don’t embrace it you’ll be left behind.” For a full second I don’t think I heard anybody move let alone blink, and I think it dawned on us right then and there in the first minute of the course how much we need to catch up with!

Whenever I used to have discussions about digital publishing, the concern for piracy was one of the main concerns, if not an obstacle even, as to why a lot of publishers didn’t want to get into digital publishing in the first place. I was glad Peter addressed this at the very start of the course, and what he said made a lot of sense, that if we (as publishers or providers) don’t make our product available to an audience that wants to consume it, then this audience will find an another way of getting it. The best example of that is what happened to the music industry when they didn’t make their music readily available for their consumers, they ended up losing a lot of money, as the consumer found ways to get the music they wanted illegally.

Peter went on to say that in the US, physical bookstores are closing down almost every day. Studies have shown a decline of on-line sales of print books, and a double or triple sales of digital books. Even in the Arab world, Omar Chebaro (of Arab Scientific Publishers) said that their sister company, Neel wa Furat, which is the biggest Arabic bookstore, with more than 70,000 books online, has also seen a rise not only in people visiting the website, but also buying from their online store. We then read a quote from an online Arabic Magazine, ArabianBusiness.com, by Brendon Ogilvy (VP of digital insight at Effective Measure): “Despite the fact that the overall level of online shopping activity is low, at 32% of Internet users (in the MENA region), that still represents a market of more than 20 million online shoppers across the Arab world.” Something that left us all thinking about…

Other growing markets for digital content are libraries – not only because libraries can only fit so many physical books, but also because education in all parts of the world is going digital. 23. Day 2 Publishers Training Abu Dhabi : Lessons in Book Design

From the minute I read about this lecture I knew I was going to learn so much from it and indeed I did! Mario Pulice, the Creative Director of Little, Brown & Company, was here to talk about Book Cover Design & Concepts. He started off by showing us covers of books that Little, Brown had worked on. I recognized a few which I already had like David Sedaris, Malcolm Gladwell, James Patterson and Stephenie Meyer. Some of the designs looked really elaborate while others were simple with text only, and I wondered how and who decides which should be elaborate and which should be kept simple?

Mario went on to show us how the same book cover can be packaged in so many different ways from one country to the next. Although I knew this from before, seeing all those covers from different parts of the world packaged in so many different ways, really illustrated how much design and art is representative of culture and what societies deem is acceptable or attractive or believable…

“When talking about designing the cover of the book” Mario said as he opened a book, “I’m talking about the front, the back and the spine.” I loved that sentiment and was sure to reiterate it loud and clear to my designer when I get back home! One of the participants commented on the positioning of the ISBN at the back of the book and asked if that bothered Mario as a designer. His answer was just great because when I first started in publishing that was one of my first fights…

Let’s be honest here, the ISBN is just ugly! Why does it have to be on the back? Why does it have to be so big?

Mario said he fought trying to put the ISBN on the inside of the jacket of the book. The only concession he received was to make the conceded the ISBN 10% smaller. It had to stay on the back cover because that is how books are tracked and sold. Any smaller, and the tracking machine won’t pick it up.

That was the end of the fight for Mario, and upon hearing that, it is definitely the end of the fight for me as well!

We then moved on to the process of designing the cover of the book, and of course, the steps start from reading the manuscript or the summary of the book to sketching, discussing, presenting and finally approving the design.

The process was quite detailed, and included a lot of people – each specialized in doing one area of the job in order to complete it in the best way possible. Over lunch, one of my fellow delegates, Azza Tawil (Publishing Manager of All Prints / Lebanon) and I spoke with Phillip Patrick (VP and Publisher at Crown Publishing) about the practice of having specialized people focused on performing one task to the best of their abilities, then handing it over to the next person to do the same, therefore creating a collaboration of skills and brains that end up producing a great piece of work.

Azza and I were lamenting how it is not the same in a lot of businesses in this part of the world, where the priority lies in getting the job done! There are exceptions of course, and many understand the value of having specialized people on staff, but in many cases you hear of this one person hired to do a specific job who ends up extending him or herself across so many different levels. The job gets done “all right,” but quality suffers.

The reasons, we decided, are economic: If one person can do the job why hire two or three. The other is that the industry is still immature. Therefore there aren’t any specialized people to hire in the first place. But if business owners don’t start

Day 1 of Publishers Training in Abu Dhabi by Salwa Shakhshir

What a great day! I had been eagerly anticipating this program for months now, and walking from our hotel to the NYU campus felt so good! With my new notebook in hand, I felt like a student again, but this time much more eager to learn, not only because the topic is now my choice of career, but also because of the chance to meet and share experiences with other colleagues in the same industry. To be honest, I hadn’t expected there to be so many of us, but we numbered around 30 executives from publishing houses not only from the Arab region like Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, UAE, Tunisia, and also from countries like Senegal, Malaysia, Russia, Nigeria. I’m grateful for this diversity because it has greatly enriched the program and made conversations that much more interesting.

We were first guided to this super hi-tech white room, clad with desks and microphones and screens. The seminar hadn’t even started yet but I was already giddy, for in front of me lay two bestselling books, which I guessed the speaker must have worked on. The first was Dreams from My Father by Barak Obama and the second was The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, both of which I have heard of before and both of which I couldn’t wait to read. I felt like I was on Oprah being handed giveaways. I even looked up expecting to see the participants get up and start clapping enthusiastically – but I guess my imagination got a little ahead of me!

After a round of introductory talks, first the speaker was finally on and I think it was apparent to all of us how passionate he is about what he does and how obviously good he is about what he does . . . Phillip Patrick, the vice president for Digital and Marketing Strategy and Publisher of Crown Digital Media at Random House, briefly introduced himself and said that he was an avid reader since the age of five. The first thing that Phillip said which resonated quite loudly for me for obvious reasons, is that if we are to leave this lecture with one thing and one thing only it is this: acknowledging the importance of children books. To put it quite simply, the more children read now, the better it is for publishers later. I couldn’t have agreed with him more!

Before getting into the basics of how to build a successful publishing strategy the participants were asked to name the challenges that they face in the industry. It was no shock to hear that distribution and lack of information availability were top of the list. But when one participant casually said “people don’t read!” I couldn’t help but laugh at the simplicity in which this problem was stated, yet at the same time realizing how sadly true this is. Again, the message was clear: visionary publishers should figure out that if they support children literature, at the end of the day it will end up supporting them.

 صاح طارق وهو يركض في أنحاء الغرفة ماداً يديه أفقياً: فررررررررررررم  فررررم أنا طائرة أنظروا كيف أطير ويييييييييييي. قد يجد البعض هذه التصرفات الطفولية مسلية وظريفة وجزء مهم من مرحلة الطفولة بينما قد يعتبرها البعض الآخر مزعجة وتسبب الفوضى في البيت وتبعد الطفل عن الواقع


ويؤكد الخبراء أن للعب دور ًمهم في نمو الطفل العقلي والنفسي والجسدي ولأهميته في حياة الطفل فقد جعلت الأمم المتحدة حق للعب من حقوق الانسان للطفل

 

لقد تغيرمفهوم الوقت واشغال الفراغ في أيامنا الحالية فمن زمن ليس ببعيد كان الأطفال يتركوا على سجيتهم لإشغال وقت فراغهم. ولم يكن هناك ألعاب كثيرة متوفرة لهم أو وسائل ترفيه الكترونية بل كانوا يعتمدون على طاقاتهم الابداعية في تسلية أنفسهم فيستخدمون الخامات المتوفرة في بيئتهم لصنع ألعابهم مثل سيارة مصنوعة من صندوق كرتوني... طائرة ورقية من صحف قديمة وصمغ مصنوع من ماء وطحين

 

أما اليوم ومع تغير وتيرة الحياة وتوقعات المجتمع الذي نعيش فيه يشعر بعض الأهل أن عليهم أن  ينظموا كل دقيقة من أوقات أطفالهم  فيسجلوا أطفالهم بدورات في الفن والرياضة والرقص وبعدها يخصصوا وقتا لمتابعة دروسهم. وما تبقى من الوقت الحر المتاح لطفل اليوم تحظى به التكنولوجيا المتوفرة من ألعاب الكترونية وبرامج تلفزيونية وحاسوب مما  يجعل الوقت المتاح للعب التخيلي الحر أقل بكثير من المطلوب

 

لكن ماذا نعني باللعب التخيلي؟

 

اللعب التخيلي هو اللعب الذي ينتج عن خيال الطفل ويعبر عن مكنونات نفسه ويكون هو المحرك له مثال على ذلك هو تقمص الطفل لأدوار مختلفة لأشخاص أو لحيوانات فتارة يكون طبيباً أو سائقاً أو معلمة وتارة أخرى يصبح أسداً أو قطة صغيرة
