I've been meaning to post about this but it's finally official that I'll be at FanExpo Vancouver this year for the first time. I've been meaning to add this event to my lineup of cons for awhile, and I'm pretty happy to get a spot. I'll be at table A118 in Artist Alley. Be sure to stop by in you're in the area.
You can see a little gif image on the upper right of the page under "Upcoming Events"

Here is my Harley Quinn featured "Suicide Squad" poster I've finally finished.
Much like the "Back to the Future 3" poster I made before, I did a bit of a homage to a vintage movie poster with this one. I really liked the color block borders in the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" poster and how well Holly Golightly's silhouette works. So I tried to use some of those ideas as basis for my Suicide Squad poster.

A "STRANGER THINGS" alternative art TV poster has been at the top of my poster list prior to and since getting back from Toronto's FanExpo Canada. I saw alot of Eleven cosplay but the one I got a picture of was spot on for me.
I added specific numbers for the D & D game dice which corresponded to the show. Here are the meanings behind the numbers:
- 7, 15, 20, 16 is for the date Netflix premiered the show - July 15, 2016
- 2 is for the twin directors - The Duffer Brothers
- 8 is for the number of episodes
- 1 is for Season One
- 11 is for the character Eleven
- 6 is for the day Will went missing (November 6th 1983)

I was encouraged to make a "Pokemon Go" poster but I wanted to do it with a bit of twist.
So this one I think stands along side my other mash-up posters like "Guardians of the Gravity Falls" and "My Little Morphin' Pony Rangers".
My mash-up series now adds the following entitled "Pokemon Titans Go".
Here are the mash-up names:
- Rash
- Silkiechu
- Bul-Beast-saur Boy
- Haventer
- Star Clefirey
- Maborg

Here is my 30th alternative art movie poster for one of my favorite Brad Bird films :
"The Incredibles"!
I remember watching this in the cinema at the very back of the theater seats because it was such a packed screening.
I wanted to capture the graphic closing credits style as they battled Syndrome's Omnidroid v.10 along with Frozone. In the corner you can see Syndrome holding Jack Jack.

Here is my 29th alternative art movie poster and this year's "Finding Dory" is what I decided on.
I've been wanting to add a few more animation posters to my list and this may be the start of a string of them I'll post in the coming months.

I'll have new alternative art posters, illustrated books and much more...

I've had this rough sketch - see below - in my files, for awhile now, for a Nightmare Before Christmas poster but never quite got around to completing it until recently. I might do a few variants of the poster and play around background colors. But for now I settled on this orange as it obviously felt appropriate.
The final poster's approach in style was not want I had set out to attempt but I'm still very happy with the result.
At the request of some people at last year's Fan Expo in Toronto and as an idea that's been at the top of my own to-do list, this is definitely a poster I'll be proud to showcase at the comic con in TO this year.

My "Harryhausen" poster got re-tweeted by the official twitter account of one of my animation heroes Ray Harryhausen!
The twitter account is managed by The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, which is a charitable Trust set up by Ray in 1986. The primary aim of the Foundation to protect Ray’s work and legacy.

The 2nd Gallery Exhibition from my work studio DHX Halifax is coming up and is entitled
"Monster Mayhem!"
It opens May 2, 2016.
As an added bonus challenge I got the word "BONES" which could be hidden or featured or used however you like. I chose to feature "bones" in this piece I entitled "Harryhausen" from this scene from Jason and the Argonauts.

I'll be sure post photos like last time from the gallery in a future post.

I thought just getting an Instagram like by Pee Wee himself on my poster was more than enough by itself. I just noticed that Pee Wee Herman did a whole post about it on his blog and added it to the Fan Art section.
Check it out at:
Thank you Pee Wee!
Last month I checked out the newest Pee Wee film on Netflix called
"Pee Wee's Big Holiday"
and it was classic fun - hasn't lost a beat - Pee Wee Herman.
So, as a huge fan, it was only natural to make an alternative art poster for this newest movie.

Here is my 3rd alternative art poster of 2016:
"BATMAN v SUPERMAN"
*CLOSEUP - click on image
I rough sketched this out a few days prior to watching the movie then finished it up over the weekend. I really enjoyed the film and the visuals. I thought the sequence of Batman rescuing Martha Kent was the one of the best of Batman fighting ever on film. Gal Gadot's Diana/Wonder Woman scenes and introduction into the fight against Doomsday at the end of the film, along with her theme music, was probably my favorite bit of the movie.
Although I wished they didn't show her at all or spoil Doomsday via the trailer. Funny enough fan made re-edit trailers will hopefully show studios how to cut a proper trailer.

The third and final poster in my trio of recent space films is THE MARTIAN.
Favorite Quote:
"I admit it's fatally dangerous, but I'd get to fly around like Iron Man."
- Mark Watney
Plot of GRAVITY:
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

In 2015, I started doing these alternative Movie/TV Art Posters and I was able to complete 20 of them.
Hopefully I can do twice as many in 2016! :)
Happy New Year, everyone!

Ken
The second poster in my trio of recent space films is GRAVITY. Fortunate to see this in 3D at the movie theatre and subsequently bought the 3D Blu-ray once it came out.
Favorite Quote:
"Listen, do you wanna go back, or do you wanna stay here? I get it. It's nice up here. You can just shut down all the systems, turn out all the lights, and just close your eyes and tune out everyone. There's nobody up here that can hurt you. It's safe. I mean, what's the point of going on? What's the point of living? Your kid died. Doesn't get any rougher than that. But still, it's a matter of what you do now. If you decide to go, then you gotta just get on with it. Sit back, enjoy the ride. You gotta plant both your feet on the ground and start livin' life. Hey, Ryan? It's time to go home."
- Matt Kowalski
Plot of GRAVITY:
A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after a catastrophe destroys their shuttle and leaves them adrift in orbit.

I thought I'd give some much deserved love to Part III of the Back to the Future Trilogy as most people, rightly so, have been celebrating Part II because of the October 21 2015 date.
I came up with the idea to pay homage to the poster to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" as Marty, in the third film, takes on the name of Clint Eastwood.
Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen
"What's your name, dude?"
"Uh, Mar- Eastwood. Clint Eastwood."
Marty McFly
"What kind of stupid name is that?"
Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen
Note: Added the Flux Capacitor design to the poncho.

The second idea I came up with during Fan Expo was another mash-up poster in a sense. I wanted that old B-Movie Monster feeling combined with one of my favorite shows as a kid. So here is my "Attack of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" poster.
THEY CAME FROM THE SEWERS!
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Ken
Here is an idea I came up with during Fan Expo...It's a mash-up piece that I hope will compliment my "Guardians of the Gravity Falls" poster.
This is my frankensteinian creation which is a mix of
A) the animated series "My Little Pony"
+
B) the live action show "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers"
=
"My Little Morphin' Pony Rangers"
Go Go Pony Rangers!
Enjoy!

Here's my table setup from Fan Expo 2015 in Toronto. Thanks to all who came by and showed their support. I'm looking forward to 2016, as I have some new ideas for the next con.
