26. Recipe Zines - Pasta alla Putanesca

So lately I've been trying to combine two of my true loves, food and drawing, by making little simple recipe zines. I'm starting off with Pasta alla Putanesca (translated to 'whore's pasta') and I got really hungry drawing it.

I'm planning on making copies for trade at SPX if you would like to trade with me :)

The source for this recipe is the poor student's cookbook made by a fellow redditor.

27. DownBeat Keys - Summer on Saturn

A little while ago I was able to work with my friend Jared to put together a cover for his band's (DownBeat Keys) latest album, Summer on Saturn. They're a pretty cool hiphop-funk hybrid band. The spacey concept he was going for made me real excited to work on it and I had a lot of fun doing it.

Here's the front:

And the back:

Stay funky.

28. Seasonal Depression's Board Game

Really obnoxiously complex and excessively annoying if you actually tried to play it. I did this (6 months go?) for this past large color newspaper issue of Static Fish. Color is annoying faded 80's-ish palette. In retrospect I'd really would just much rather keep everything black and white but it kind of hurts my eyes...?

Here's what it looks like (click to enlarge):

Here's the b/w:

Here's it all printed and stuff:

Hobbes approves.

In case you forgot what Seasonal Depression is... look here.

30. Blog Hiccups and Blood Magic

So I've have been having a little trouble with this blog, having accidentally deleted the images on it. I restored a bunch of the recent stuff, but I might end up deleting most of the old stuff.

But that's okay! My new stuff looks pretty different from the old stuff anyway. Keepin' it FRESH. I also got a tumblr if that's more of your format.

So, what I've been up to lately is working on this zine called Blood Magic. Me and my friends Kris and Hunter put it together to commemorate George R. R. Martin's latest book in the Song of Ice and Fire series- A Dance with Dragons.

So the three of us and lots of other AWESOME illustrators did some pretty art inspired by the series. We put together and printed 200 copies of the zine and brought them to George R. R. Martin's New York signing last Thursday. We handed out a bunch of them fans and were able to give a copy to George R. R. Martin himself. He seemed to like it!

Here's what I put in the zine:

A lost wolf flyer for Nymeria. I also hung this around Union Square before the signing and gave one to GRRM- he seemed to get a kick out of it.

"The Bear and the Maiden Fair"

I also drew this super obnoxious ASOIAF themed border for the credits page.

If you like the books or the Game of Thrones HBO series, or you know, just like awesome art in handmade zines, please get yourself a copy here!

31. Be part of our Game of Thrones minizine!!

My friends and I are putting together a minizine for the debut of George R. R. Martin's newest book, A Dance With Dragons. If you draw pictures and are a fan of the Song of Ice and Fire series or the Game of Thrones HBO series we would like you to submit your art to the zine!

We will be giving out the zine at the GRRM signing in Union Square, NY when the book goes on sale (7/14) and will hopefully be giving it to GRRM himself, so make it good!!!

Art is due at the end of the month- 8.5" x 5.5" vertical, black and white only.

For more information, please visit Kris Mukai's tumblr.

Get drawin'!

35. Save the Pig!

A little while back I got the chance to work on cute little save the dates for some friends who are getting married. Pretty simple, but I think they came out nice lookin' and we got to get them printed on some nice textured stock.

Here's the piggy:

And here's how they turned out:

45. Ghosts in the Lights

So, obviously, I haven't been updating this semester-- I've been waiting till the end when everything is complete. Did lots of comics this fall so I'll post a few of them here.

This one is about my sister and I. I hope she doesn't get too mad.

46. The New York Review of Magazines

Here's a couple pieces I did back in the spring that were just published in the 2010 New York Review of Magazines. I gave them two pieces to choose from for the article and I thought that it was kind of cool that they decided to use the one that they didn't pick for the article as a chapter header/divider thingy for magazine's features section. I think the spreads look really nice.

You can read the article online here.

47. MAD on Cartoon Network

Over the summer I worked at Bunko Studios where I did character and background design for the new MAD show on Cartoon Network. I worked strictly on the movie parody scenes (like in the magazine) which were done entirely in digital photo collage. It was a fun experience and I got to work with some really great people...
The show just starting airing last month, you can catch it on Monday nights at 8:30pm. Watch some of what I worked on here.
