I made another thing for the November issue of Strings! I like how this one turned out. For an article called "3 Steps On The Road To Confidence" basically about how there are no shortcuts in learning to be a musician. AD Emily Fisher.

A while ago I helped animate a logo for a production company called the Meteorites, and they recently got back in touch with me to put together an album cover for VIBE's newest album. They originally had their album titled "Golden Hour" but eventually switched to "Carpe Diem" -but still wanted to keep the golden hour theme while also including the members of the group. Here's what I ended up coming up with.
They also really enjoyed what I did with the VIBE logo so they put it on a shirt! I thought that was cool. It was really fun working with Leo Volcy on this one.

A while ago I illustrated a few articles for a magazine called Strings! They were about music libraries and music students and performers and teachers and music lessons via internet.
Here's how it looked in print--
Super fun to work on. AD Emily Fisher.

Sorry I haven't updated in a million years, I kind of feel like the world is making the switch to tumblr, so I've been updating there more. I will make the effort to keep this up too though.
If you are a tumblr person though, I can be found here: fire-plug.tumblr.com
Here is a movie poster I did a while back for a documentary called Plutokracija Hrvatska all about the immense corruption of the Croatian government- mindblowing stuff.
Art direction by filmmaker/old friend Steven Ellis.

I made this for Sloane Leong’s Battles Without Honor and Humanity show at Floating World Comics opening September 15th in Portland. You should check out all the amazing YAKUZA ART people have been during for the show, it’s going to be awesome!
This is from the movie Outrage, the yakuza boss Murase is at the dentist and his rivals show up and destroy his mouth with the dentistry equipment while he’s lying in the chair. After that he has to wear this elaborate face contraption to cover the wound. I love the way the contraption looks, but that scene basically terrified me into never wanting to go to the dentist ever again…

GREETINGS--
I have a piece in a group show called 'Permanent Collection' at Nancy Margolis Gallery in Chelsea in NYC.
The concept of the show is that 130 artists (including lots of amazing artists I went to school with and lots of artists a million times better than me) did a tribute piece to a selection from the Permanent Collection at the MoMA. I chose "When I Think Back.. REA" by Lester Beall.
I chose this piece since it already reminded me of my own work, and I have such a weakness for those graphic, old propaganda-esque posters... as well as any opportunity to draw mechanical devices. Did this is ballpoint pen, xerox, brush and ink, and acrylic paint on cradled wood panel.
This show was curated by the awesome illustrator/my old professor/all around cool dude Jordin Isip.
I know this isn't the greatest picture of it ever, but tomorrow is the reception and if you are in NYC you should go and see it in person!!

On Thursday I get to have the pleasure of participating on a sci-fi themed art show in Portland as curated by a cool lady named Sloane Leong . I will not be there, but if you by any chance happen to be in Portland I hope you'll stop by Floating World Comics to see my Videodrome piece!

I made another recipe zine- this time it’s homemade snickers barssssssssss
These are super easy to make, you just need to allot some time for the layers to cool. Inspired by the recipe on How Sweet It Is. They are seriously addictive, I could feel my heart slowing down. I sold these along with all my other recipe zines at MoCCA this weekend :)Blog: TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE (Login to Add to MyJacketFlap)

So, I made a little 24 page yoga thingy with a bunch of poses from the sun salutation I do every morning. I have one of those Rodney Yee hour-long routine DVDs- it's a great way to start the day. I made them with a bunch of different excitingly colored covers, so you can pick which one is your favorite.
I will be selling these guys at MoCCA this weekend, so come by and pick up a copy! Yayyy MoCCA!Blog: TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE (Login to Add to MyJacketFlap)

I've been bad at blogging. I got a table at MoCCA this year so I have been neglecting the internet for a while to make art stuffs for that.
One of the things I'm selling at MoCCA are these notebooks with my astronaut silkscreened on the cover. I'm not very gifted at silkscreening but I had lots of help from Arlin Ortiz and Kris Mukai and I really like how they turned out.

I just did this poster for my friend Nestor- he is part of a company called Ethikus which is sponsoring Shop Your Values week in NYC to support ethical and sustainable local businesses for the week of May 3rd - 10th. You can go to www.shopyourvaluesweek.com and get lots of nice perks for pledging.
Nestor is a fan of my comic so I added some... familiar aspects... to the poster. Hopefully you'll be able to see some posted around NYC soon.

Realized that lots of annuals aren't crazy about black and white pieces, so I decided to do some color versions of old pieces before I submit stuff and retouch some stuff that was bothering me.
I struggle with color a whole lot, so I hope that these came out alright...

Last week I made this for Jimmy Giegerich's 8-bit video game zine. Such a cool idea! I had to submit.
I was never allowed a console as kid so we were strictly a PC gaming household. We used to play Commander Keen among lots of other old games as a family after dinner, all of us taking turns while the others sat close and spectated.
I didn't realize this until recently, but the creators of Commander Keen also worked on the Doom games, which we also played as a family. This accounts for the last level of Doom II including shooting 4 Commander Keens hung from the ceiling as a symbol of the creators' hatred for having to work on such a cute game.
Neat!!
I think I might make a color version since it just isn't Commander Keen without all the purple and green and yellow.

Made for Harris Smith's Star Trek (Original Series) art zine.
For those of you who aren't Star Trek fans, it's an old school tricorder. Sorry about my excess of nerd art lately...

This piece has been on and off my drafting table for forever and now I've finally gotten a chance to scan it.
I decided to do a piece where I tried some stuff I've never done before/don't do very often- ie: washes, graphite drawing, working larger...
So yeah- 22 in x 30 in, on some toned-ish paper I found, graphite, coffee, gouache, india ink, acrylic ink.
A pre-ALS Mr. Hawking. What a stud.

Wow okay I haven't posted anything in while I've been really bad at scanning and updating things.
BUT YEAH I animated the logo at the beginning of this music video:
Which was really fun and also kind of difficult because I think I literally know nothing about animation. But I love robots, so, I mean, what can you do.
Here's a .gif so you can just watch the little guy over and over.

Yayy more recipe zines! For this recipe you'll need a crock pot.
I recently inherited my parents' old crock pot from when they first got together. I ate a lot of dinners from that pot and I am now starting to understand why... It's so easy to just throw some food in there and go to work, and when you get back BAM it's ready. A worthwhile investment. Trust me, I wouldn't be cooking anything in it unless it was incredibly easy.

Here's another recipe zine. I made these cookies and as you can see they aren't as pretty as the ones the author of this recipe made-- but they are DELICIOUS and they make amazing coffee cookies. I hope you like Nutella!
Try to ignore the typo I made... Gotta fix that...
I'm planning on making copies for trade at SPX if you would like to trade with me :)
The source for this recipe is The Purple Foodie.
