My heart, my prayers go out to those in need, devastated by the flooding in West Virginia.
It is such a beautiful inspirational place with beautiful souls.
People have lost their homes and some, their loved ones.

Want to help?
To help, please pray.
God hears our prayers.
We are stronger together.

3. February- Time to Paint the Garden!

This has been a time of loss for my family.

But...I'm not going to write about this.

Because it's February!
it's Time to PAINT the Garden.

Oh! how I love to paint my garden.  (It's always much more beautiful in my dreams.)  Reality requires work.

How to paint a garden?  Use the months of January, Feb and March and April to dream about your window vignettes.  What should they look like?    Imagine each window as a frame to a beautiful, ever changing painting.  With God as the artist, it is always a masterpiece.

My paintings change season by season, day by day.    Add bark and evergreens for interesting textures on wintry days, and add more color for spring and summer.

Yes, my garden is still an all you can eat buffet for the many critters living nearby, deer, squirrel, fox, groundhogs, and raccoon.  Last year, we caught three groundhogs in Have-A-Hearts. Then turned them free miles away. Could the same ones have returned?
We have three.

My dad and mice...
Dad caught a mouse in his Have-A-Heart, he painted the mouse's toenails with bright red fingernail polish (imagine mice toes peeking through the cage below).

Even when driven miles away, red toed mice would show up again and again in our home, off to the Have-A-Heart.
Wonder what those mice thought about their trips?

This just happened last year, despite my neglect.  Beautiful!

My husband watered while I was away.

Guess who I discovered in the shower one early morning!?

We saw wee bits of nature while at my parents home in West Virginia.
It's not a stretch to see where ideas come from.

15. From Here to There

How exciting!

This month I've shipped a package off to Canada,

Finland, England and another to Ireland.

(Earlier this year, I've have shipped to China, Spain, Japan,

Russia, and Germany)

It gives me such a kick when I think about the places the art is shipped.

It's a small world.

16. Want to learn how to paint fairies?

Want to learn how to paint fairies?

Take a look at this new educational book by Sara Burrier.

It is beautiful!

My friend, Sara, has a new Watercolor book out this month.   Oh, I feel inspired to paint this week!   Thank you Sara.    I was honored to be included in the book as a guest artist, with three pages and a few watercolor tips.    Sarah not only paints beautifully, but she knows how to inspire and teach. Many artist keep their water color technique a secret, but Sara has the confidence to share and teach.  If you want a good, inspirational, joyful watercolor book, this is the one.

Take a look!

18. Firefly Nights

"Firefly Nights"

Children at play on a warm summer eve
The moon shines down upon them.
Catch a firefly,
let him go.
with changes
to my original art.
Recently, a teacher wrote and requested
that I add more diversity in my children.
She wanted a print to represent the diverse children of
her classroom.
Great idea!
Thank you for thoughtful input!

19. Music Soothes the Soul

"This Umbrella"
by Scarlet Keys-
 Exciting news,
spread the word!

Recently, musician Scarlet Keys contacted me about a song she had written,
"This Umbrella";  inspired by a Hallmark card!

I am blessed that my illustration gave inspiration
for her to create such a heartwarming song.

see the video!

Song writer and musician, Scarlet Keys, is a well known Nashville song writer
and music educator at  Berklee College of Music in Boston.
From the video "My Umbrella" by Scarlet Keys

This song was written by Scarlet for her sister (with stage 5 kidney disease)
Proceeds from the song will benefit her sister's medical bills.
What a Beautiful Tribute!

I am in love with her song "This Umbrella".
The song and lyrics are a breath of fresh air,
the artist's voice is warm and heartfelt.

Watch the Video:

Scarlet Keys writes,   "I made several attempts to write a song that I thought she would like and then after several attempts, I found an old card in a box my sister had sent to me 10 years ago and it had a picture on the front of two little girls underneath a huge umbrella, and I knew when I saw it, that that was the perfect idea for her song. Eric and I met and with two cups of coffee and a ukulele, and we wrote her song.
The illustration below was created by the wonderful artist Rebecca Kelly and the song was inspired by her wonderful drawing of the two little girls."

"This Umbrella"
Written by Scarlet Keys, and Eric Leva
Vocals by Liz Longley
Produced by Nick Goldston
Shot on the iPhone 5s by Tim Hedlund
Edited by Nick Goldston

May this song embrace your heart & mind and remember to spread the energy of love by sharing
this music with your friends & family.
Peace & blessings.
xoxo

24. Reading in Greens (Summer Garden note cards)

This note card set was added to my card collection by personal request.
It is an image of a child in a delicate blue dress reading in a garden.  A bunny watches.
The border is a light delicate Robin's egg blue with lily of the valley detail.

I was inspired by a Tasha Tudor painting of a "girl in a blue dress reading".   I wanted to do a stylized version to honor Tasha Tudor's artwork.
